In order to improve, one needs to mix up the training. Train with people who are stronger but also train with people who are not as good. This way, one improves skills as well as boost up the confidence level.
Kid in the blue gi looks like a -66kg junior. Shouldn't a prospective Beijing medallist like Burton fight someone a little bigger? (no disrespect intended just asking)
to develop your offensive game in all combat sports you have to spar with guys who are a bit lower on the totem in comparison of skill. for defensive game and counters guys you have to train with guys who much better than you. then with guys who about the same or even a little bit above your skill level to put it all together. to train with guys who are constantly better you is a grind and its more difficult to develop you skill. thats why coaches want athletes to tapper with guys low in skill
