Man, I love the sound of that bass. True, your playing has a lot to do with it, but I really love the highs from that instrument; that is one of the hardest things to do with a bass. I have cabs that I built myself to get live sound like that: I used two 15' subs, two 12" woofers, an 8" midrange, and a tweeter. I could only imagine what your bass would sound like through it. You are getting the most out of it on this recording, but I have only heard a few bass that sound that good naturally!
you can play just about anything you want on any instrument you want. let no one tell you otherwise. it may require some set-up work, and while it may be easier on a boutique type bass, where extra attention was paid to details and set up, a boxed squire starter bass can do just as much as any comparable bass [by which i mean basses with similar features, number of frets, etc].
aside from that, ibanez makes great instruments. what kind of bass do you have?
@scrEMOhoLic044 well that's a silly comment to make. i personally did not like any of the marcus sigs i've played, nor the one i owned. i thought it was over-weight, sluggish and two of the ones i've played [including the one i owned] had bad frets; rough edges, not level, etc.
my original point still stands, regardless of whether you caught it: it's the player, not the bass- and CERTAINLY not the brand. the instrument is the tool. it's about what you do with it. understand?
Well, the pickups on the jazz are different then those that Ibanez uses. But the closest you can get is get the right sound out of your amp, lot of treble with a deep bass underneath, leave a small midrange growl. I would highly suggest DR Hi Beams. One of the best strings around.
