Kewl, so now Tennessee atheists can start laying law suits on ANY fundamentalist especially those scary creationists. The two way street will have that law revoked in no time. The courts will be packed so hard, they wont be able to get divorced!
"So you are up on charges for assaulting an officer"
(2) parts of Europe including the UK and Scandinavia are another matter on the free speech issue. As ONE recent example, did you read the insane story of a UK pub owner who was arrested and faces charges of racial harassment for singing the 1970's disco hit "Kung Fu Fighting" on Kareoke night? He sang in his OWN pub and two Chinese people who were not even IN the bar just walking past it, reported it to police. Not kidding. Google "Pub singer's 'racism' arrest over Kung Fu Fighting performance"
Odds that the TN law would be ruled unconstitutional if it is ever enforced: I'd say about 99.9% sure would not pass constitutional muster. Even Noam Chomsky, when he was pressed one time over and over by an exasperated interviewer if he could mention even ONE thing that was slightly positive about the U.S., finally said "the strength of the free speech laws." People misinterpret the "free speech" concept but it applies chiefly to GOVERNMENT stopping or censoring speech, as in the TN law.

Tennessee passes backassward laws like this all the time. I love Tennessee in some ways but in ways like this, TN is completely fucking retarded. But I hate to see people say "hurr durr the south is so stupid, I can't believe how retarded the south is, we need another civil war." Fuck off. The Civil War is the reason the south is so backward. The North fucked up Reconstruction. Ask any high school history teacher. Less money=Worse Schools=Stupid people.
I think they need to have another north-south civil war in the US just to clear things up again, last time it was about racial slavery now its about other civil rights. Why are they so backward in the southern states? Maybe it's got something to do with tornados....
Draw Mohammad Day, how about Offend Tennessee Day? Tennessee needs to change that slogan now, Home of the Free for the first three minutes, fifteen cents for each additional minute. Additional charges our corporate masters may want to throw on you may apply.
Hell, here in Orlando we've got people in jail just for feeding homeless people, and the police are keeping a watch out to keep us safe from more people planning on serving breakfast to hungry people in the morning. These ignorant "Christ"ians never stop thumping their bible long enough to read anything Christ was supposed to have said about helping people. The US will soon be the least free developed country.
I live outside of Nashville in TN and man this new law pisses me off. I'll still post what I want on my blog and if they try to charge me with anything then bring it. Maybe I'll just have an out of state friend post it on my server which is out of state, then see if they can legally do anything with that.
Tennessee is known as "The Volunteer State" because of the historically disproportionate number of Tennesseans volunteering for military service. Apparently, the oath to support and defend the Constitution was forgotten, or doesn't apply to the 1st amendment.
I say we (all of us living outside tenessee) e-mail these globalist goons responsible for this bs pictures of goatse tubgirl, harly fetus, blue waffle, meatspin, lemonparty etc... anything you can think of,
I hate to use the over-used word "fascist", but that's really the best word I can think of to describe the new laws in Tennessee. I hope that like their brilliant "segregation" idea decades ago, this one will be overturned by the central government. (States rights, indeed.)
That said, I still would rather live in Tennessee than Syria, Libya, Saudi Arabia, or most other Islamic countries. And what's one reason why they're messed up? I'll give you one guess (and it's not "U.S. intervention").
It won't hold up in court. We have a right wing over reach issue in the States (I mean individual States) I'm confident that the next election cycle will put an end to a lot of this. The one good thing you can say for our system is we get the chance to change who we elect to speak for us if we don't like what they are doing..
The fact that your lighting and framerate are better on your videos whilst in Scotland shows just how fucking miserable English weather is. Tennessee is just going insane lately, fucking mental.
Well that's Youtube gone in Tennessee straight away.
With all the anti-abortion and anti-birth control campaigns, and the anti-abortion ones actually making progress, with a campaign about to kick off in Mississippi urging rape victims not to abort that also seeks to ban abortion for rape and incest victims, it seems that many states in the US aren't concerned about Islam aside from the racial/immigrant aspect. They clearly see the theocracies of the Middle East as examples to follow.
Several states seem to be having a race to see who can become a fascist police state first. They want to ban birth control in some other state. Then of course the dramatic rise in police brutality..... If it keeps up, I might have to move to Canada in 10 years or so, depending on the rate of acceleration.
Odds are it will be appealed and taken to court and defeated. At least that's what I'm hoping. I don't live in Tennessee but I used to as a kid. Not that that has any bearing on the conversation at hand I don't suppose. Hell Richard. I think 7 states here in American are trying to ban birth control. Not just abortions but birth control. This country is turning into a pile of shit.

I must be very uninformed! I've been living in Tennessee for about a month now and I knew nothing about this. I need to get the fuck out of this country. People are losing their rights left and right.
According to the 2010 Quality of Life index, America ranks below 40 other countries in the "freedom" category, scoring 92 out of 100, making us tied with Italy, Greece, Ecuador, Israel, and several others. France, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, New Zealand, and Luxembourg not only score 100 for Freedom, their overall score for quality of life is higher than USA's.
So, not quite sure what to make of that, and USA's claim of being the home of the free. Maybe just free regarding speech, I dunno.
Well at least they have that. Michigan, OK, and probably Texas aren't doing that great as far as education from what I can tell, both due to the states cutting funds and due to Obama cutting 6% as well as raising college tuition. So, this is pretty much a kernel of what's going on here.
@SleepNeed Dude, I live in Tennessee. I agree that it's a complete shit hole. But there are a few people down here that can actually think without looking to an old book for guidance. There is still a miniscule amount of hope in this retarded state, so please... don't make me feel like I'm the only sane person in a thousand mile radius...
@SleepNeed Hey... what's up... Tennessean here. Man I wish I had internet like all you other superior humans because I wasn't born and raised where you were... shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
There's also the lovely little law our wonderful state legislators passed that makes it illegal for a city or county to deny the services of a company based on discriminatory policies against homosexuals... Not exactly the best of locations to be a teacher or an atheist either. And, as I fall into both of those categories, I'm naturally trying to raise money to get the hell out of Dodge.
dude, if you are in scotland, go to your local chemist and ask to get put on the smoking cessation programme, usually free patches or what have you, if you are signing on. or 15 quid per month if not. also just remind yourself of the mantras once the anxiety kicks in: 1) even if you do smoke, the anxiety will not go away, 2) if you distract yourself the anxiety will go away.
??? what about if you're both paying for the service?? my roommate and I go half and half on one account, but separate computers, would that be illegal??
Well just about every state in America has had some absurd law at one time or another. Most of which are even still on the books but get ignored. An I don't see to many judges wanting to deal with the complete stupidity of such laws and the cases that could be brought before them.
@d3st88 LOL it's already happening. I live in the closest city to the Minnesota boarder and last year I met a guy who was looking for under the table work because he didn't have Canadian work status. He said "it's easier to be homeless in Canada, then on unemployment in America." I get the feeling we're going to get increasingly more floods of people claiming refugee status in the next decade.
@d3st88 I've been to Tennessee... They don't need Orcs. Few things in this world will make you keep your distance like an old man with a long beard holding a beer in one hand and a shotgun in the other.....
In the annals of American jurisprudence this is by far, one the worst crafted bills ever signed into law. This law will not stand Constitutional muster, it is beyond the scope of the ability for states to regulate speech . Yet, try as they might, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are still standing as the arbiter of state legislation. We cannot back down from the fight to institute laws based upon a supposed Judeo-Christian foundation. The bible has no meaning in American law
So because someone gets their feelings hurt because I post a picture making fun of or poking at Jesus or even if someone is upset about a set of tits, I get jail time and a fine?
I'm ashamed that I live in Tennessee.
Screw this, I'm going to post what I want, when I want. This entire thing is completely unconstitutional. This law won't sit well with the supreme court, who time again and again have shown you can't have laws that go against the constitution.
Those who made that law have obviously never heard of Hustler Magazine v. Falwell in which the Supreme court unanimously, and explicitly ruled that it is unconstitutional to ban or punish speech on the grounds that it may cause "emotional distress".
You're absolutely on point here. Especially when you brought up how everyone is so concerned about losing our freedoms to Muslims when we are losing them already to things right here. I'm doing a video soon about how women are losing reproductive freedom on almost every front.
Sadly much of these laws are written to waste liberal money trying to take these to court. They know the Supreme court wont uphold the laws but they make it anyway to weaken the cash pool of liberal voters and campaigns.
This law is unconstitutional and has basically been covered in the supreme court case, Hustler Magazine, Inc. v. Falwell. Many states are overreaching their bounds by passing legislation with an agenda to limit rights of it's citizens. The question is when are Americans going to wake the fuck up and do something.
Many of these laws are worded in such a way that they are left open to interpretation by the fools that are in charge of the courts and government. Thus they can be used to persecute whom ever the gov. want to deem a threat. And you are quite right,a lot of this fear mongering is promoted in order to mask the manipulative workings of the gov..or church,or whatever group happens to be doing it at the time.
The Dick pwns my state! Yes! Oh and--- Oops. I stole entertainment services last night. LMFAO XD There are SO many old laws in TN that no one follows. Like the outdated "sodomy" laws here. Everyone breaks those I KNOW. LMFAO These new laws I think would count as that kind one day. Outdated & no one following them. This state just does things to look good but they don't ever actually follow through on enforcing them. TN sucks at governing and I'll be the first to admit it. Plane ticket please! :P
Yer Honur they got these images of Martin Luther King Junior and Abraham Lincoln outside the school and they need to take em down cos my granddady was in the KKK and these individuals terrified my family by denying our heritage and attacked the Southern way of life!
Thats google maps buggered then unless they lock it down so that anything outside the borders of Tennessee are blanked out or labled as "Mooslamics Liv Ere"
Screw freedom, you have the right to not be offended no matter how dumb it is!
I should move to Tennessee, I'm offended by seeing white after Labor Day, hopefully that'll change once I go there and I never see it again. Also, pictures of kittens with cute captions offends the hell out of me. Good thing Tennessee is fixing that.
I was born and raised in Tennessee, but currently live in Japan. However, i'll be returning to live at home in 2 months. I love Tennessee, but am extremely disappointing in the shit they have been pulling while i've been away. I'll do my best to fuck their shit up (obviously that means trying to bring an air of intelligence and decency to the place... but we'll see).
@MicahtheGreat777 As a Texan I know then pain of loving your state but going "WTF is going on with these people?!?!?!" too. I'm startung to think alot of people with carzy people leading the are starting to feel the same way as well.
I may have top look that up, but from teh sound of it, does that mean you can get jailtime for making one of those screamer videos? I mean, I hate those guys, but I don't REALLY want the police to come banging at their door over it, you know? Plus, does that mean it excludes horror shows, like Marble Hornets? That would suck,l considering Season 2 just raised a few interesting questions.
So, does this mean any of YOUR videos where you show your face are now banned in Tennessee? :)
On a serious note, so much for small government. Oh, wait: the GOP definition of small government is, "let the businesses do what they want how they want it, and put in laws to support businesses that don't want to adapt."
I'd say the fastest way to get this overturned is for people to file complaints about everything they conceivably can that's posted by a religious group or the government. Pro life propaganda? Intimidating and disturbing. Images of Jesus on the cross? Definitely disturbing and violent. Any religious propaganda containing an image and text that talks about how Jesus saves (which of course implies that everyone else will be tortured forever) Threatening and intimidating.
Well, hang on a bit. Not everyone in Tennessee goes along with this kind of thinking. Its the same in my state of Alabama and in other states as well. Lumping everyone together in a US state, or in the US as a whole, as if we all have the same opinions and vote the same, is a mistake and ignores those of us who are against laws like this and who are working against the people who pass them.
@phenixwryter Amen, there are actually quite a few liberals in Tennessee, but we're mostly younger and in college. The voters who elect dumbfuck politicians are old people and hillbillies, which unfortunately still outnumber us by quite a bit as of now.
You're a moron with bad teeth.

We have a similar law to that, Sec.5 Public Order Act, which is:
(a) uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or
(b) displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting,
within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby."
Difference is, ours applies in everyday life (outside), not online. Max fine £1000 and 6 months prison.

Looking at that law causes me extreme emotional distress. Who do I look to to throw in jail for it?
CraniumOnEmpty 8 months ago

Well just about every state in America has had some absurd law at one time or another. Most of which are even still on the books but get ignored. An I don't see to many judges wanting to deal with the complete stupidity of such laws and the cases that could be brought before them.

I have an idea. You guys build a fence now, before the illegal immigrants from the US flood you in a few decades.
d3st88 8 months ago
@d3st88 LOL it's already happening. I live in the closest city to the Minnesota boarder and last year I met a guy who was looking for under the table work because he didn't have Canadian work status. He said "it's easier to be homeless in Canada, then on unemployment in America." I get the feeling we're going to get increasingly more floods of people claiming refugee status in the next decade.

TheMessianicManic 8 months ago
You're absolutely on point here. Especially when you brought up how everyone is so concerned about losing our freedoms to Muslims when we are losing them already to things right here. I'm doing a video soon about how women are losing reproductive freedom on almost every front.

BitterCanuck 8 months ago
Sadly much of these laws are written to waste liberal money trying to take these to court. They know the Supreme court wont uphold the laws but they make it anyway to weaken the cash pool of liberal voters and campaigns.

This law is unconstitutional and has basically been covered in the supreme court case, Hustler Magazine, Inc. v. Falwell. Many states are overreaching their bounds by passing legislation with an agenda to limit rights of it's citizens. The question is when are Americans going to wake the fuck up and do something.
brokensoul70 8 months ago
I'm sorry, but this is freakin' scary. Wait a sec...that's "emotional distress," isn't it?
SeekerKC 8 months ago
spot on.
gothatfunk 8 months ago
"cause emotional distress"is quite vague and is left open to interpretation on purpose I think so they can use the law as they wish to in the moment.
richardmann184 8 months ago
Many of these laws are worded in such a way that they are left open to interpretation by the fools that are in charge of the courts and government. Thus they can be used to persecute whom ever the gov. want to deem a threat. And you are quite right,a lot of this fear mongering is promoted in order to mask the manipulative workings of the gov..or church,or whatever group happens to be doing it at the time.

Everyone breaks those I KNOW. LMFAO These new laws I think would count as that kind one day. Outdated & no one following them. This state just does things to look good but they don't ever actually follow through on enforcing them. TN sucks at governing and I'll be the first to admit it. Plane ticket please! :P

CrudOMatic 8 months ago 14
So, does this mean any of YOUR videos where you show your face are now banned in Tennessee? :)
On a serious note, so much for small government. Oh, wait: the GOP definition of small government is, "let the businesses do what they want how they want it, and put in laws to support businesses that don't want to adapt."
firefly4f4 8 months ago
I'd say the fastest way to get this overturned is for people to file complaints about everything they conceivably can that's posted by a religious group or the government. Pro life propaganda? Intimidating and disturbing. Images of Jesus on the cross? Definitely disturbing and violent. Any religious propaganda containing an image and text that talks about how Jesus saves (which of course implies that everyone else will be tortured forever) Threatening and intimidating.

nemo3590 8 months ago
Well, hang on a bit. Not everyone in Tennessee goes along with this kind of thinking. Its the same in my state of Alabama and in other states as well. Lumping everyone together in a US state, or in the US as a whole, as if we all have the same opinions and vote the same, is a mistake and ignores those of us who are against laws like this and who are working against the people who pass them.
phenixwryter 8 months ago
@phenixwryter Maybe its because people like you are not vocal enough.
BaboonJihad 8 months ago
@BaboonJihad We are vocal, but we're outnumbered right now. Ever think of that?
phenixwryter 8 months ago
@phenixwryter Amen, there are actually quite a few liberals in Tennessee, but we're mostly younger and in college. The voters who elect dumbfuck politicians are old people and hillbillies, which unfortunately still outnumber us by quite a bit as of now.
