  • The corporate bullshit hit these guys when they made the lead guitarist switch from left to right or vice versa anyway they where under the corporate blanket. They still rocked us,hell I have a scarf, and tee that still fits,I wish.78 I was 17

  • The Channel maybe? The club?

  • The slow motion shot of Benny at 3:04 priceless

  • @jenbunny1984 Thanks for pointing it out.

  • nice fucking find!

  • I wish I knew where the live concert videos were shot. I saw the Cars in 1978 at the Roxy in Hollywood. It was their first tour from Boston and I had never heard of them, but I certainly remembered them after. Their sound then was new and vibrant (I liked the synthesizer) and they were great live. Around the same time I met Ric Okasek at the Masque, a popular punk club in Hollywood at the time. All told, they made a lasting impression.

  • D - Q.104.3 FM-NYC/ NGC 2999

  • The CAR-TLES!!!

  • Is Ben playing a music man bass?

  • @JesusFreakJene : It appears that he is. I'm not sure if the original company is still around, or if a foreign country has bought their license, and perhaps they're now being made overseas. IMO, this band belongs in a special place in innovative rock history. They're definitely within a class of their own.

  • great sound and video!

  • the keyboard player looks so funny oh man i wish i lived in the 70's lmao

  • LOL @ 1:14 - 1:17! I guess he is *feeling* it.

  • @svetaswan lamo

  • @svetaswan Elliot is kind of a dork haha

  • @spaceorbison A dork????? Lets see you ROCK an electric guitar the way he can :-) All I can say is that I am sure he is good with his hands if you know what I mean :-) Elliot Is Hot and The Cars Rock!

  • great quality

  • Saw them re-united on the Colbert Report the other night. With Ben Orr dead it just doesn't seem right. He was the lead singer on the majority of their hits.

  • The part when Elliot Easton is playing a solo spot and he is looking at Benjamin (1:14-1:17); Elliot's face totally looks orgasmic and it's funny and cute how Ben is looking at Elliot. Ben & Elliot are too hot to stop!

I can't believe we are able to see these amazing moments.

I wish we had these available to us when we were younger.

  • Saw them on David Letterman last month. ZERO stage presence. They sounded OK, but was a little late on most vocals. Looked like they were still practicing and just didn't have any life in the performance. Hope they get better...

  • you just don't get music like this anymore! OMG I never thought I would sound like my mom and dad but there you have it!!

  • Saw them at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in summer of '79... great, great show!

  • LOVE the Cars!. I've got garage band-itis. Love these type of 'just-knock-it-out' groups

    I appreciate their incredible talent!

cuz I grew up in the 70's,

and saw lots of failed bands strain hard to put together a melody.

Cars make it look too easy

  • Great Short Video

  • Who needs velvet shorts or a bandana on their head or even a top hat and a cigarette hanging out of their mouth when you can play like Elliot?

No gimmicks needed. Just pure talent. Awesome.

  • @jellowishes Amen to that! He's totally underrated!

  • @jellowishes lmfao!! ssoooooooooo true!

  • @mrmikespence1964 YOU SUCK SPOOK.....

  • their hair maybe?

  • Just saw The Cars at Electric Factory in Philly last sunday. They sounded great. Amazing show. Just kinda sad about Ben Orr..

  • I hated the Cars when I was young. I was a metalhead and they were just not cool. As time went by I cared less about what people thought of my musical tastes and I then found the Cars to be outstanding.

  • Audience is horrible!! Where's the NOISE!!! The noise is what makes it a show for real!

  • @solarvolcano The audience was heckling them... you can hear the nasty comments all throughout this concert... too bad they couldn't appreciate this brilliant band!

  • wow vocally ric was in fine form this song

  • Anyone know how to get this show on dvd ?

  • That look Ben gives at the very end...Yum!!! hehe

  • thank you so much for posting this. it's great!

  • The Cars was my second concert attended. YES was the first. For The Cars it was cuz this was '79 and they were climbing the charts.

  • @smilingpug

yes and the cars? it was a convergence of different musical styles in those days. Good days they were.

  • This is a song typically sung to your cousin :x

  • seems like Elliot & Ben had their own little party happening on their side of the stage..

  • 2:44 Hahahaha, what? :D

I always wished that was one of the lines in the song. Always sounded a little more rock n' roll.

  • Raw and young, I only wish I could have seen them in such a small venue. Unfortunately I saw them in PHX in a large stadium.

  • @climbon74 You say it like its a bad thing. I get it, lol.

  • TONS of talent and they work so well together. Very original Rock band & should be in the Hall of Fame!!!

  • Saw them in early 80S....worst performers ever!!!! Love the songs though.....

  • they sound nothing like nirvana

  • I GET EARGASMS FROM THEIR MUSIC!!! :P

  • Wow....2nd concert I saw Aug 1980-wasn't close to the stage-but that SOUND-flawless without all the screaming & crowds back then. Amazing. RIP Ben...

  • Sound similar to Nirvana? No disrespect, but i believe it's the other way around. There's no way you can compare the Cars to Nirvana!

  • @lowtide321 Both good bands though:)

  • Sound similar to Nirvana? No disrespect, but i believe it's the other way around.

  • do people remember how they came out of nowhere with their own patented sound so similar to nirvana?.....pioneers treding their own trails in between the mountians of disco and punk rock.

  • Some of the best vocals I have heard by the Cars in a song. At 1:28 they sound great, but Ben always stands out with that excellent voice. The band is playing in complete unison!

  • Fantastic moment!

  • Yikes...Ric Ocasek looks pale and anorexic. Maybe too many drugs?

  • @pdynamics1 When has Ric Ocasek NOT looked pale and anorexic? lol...

  • Orr HAD to know how utterly DIVINE he looked...

  • You are a c*@t tonight.

  • Ben Orr..yeah!

But Easton is a Darling here..charisma..or however it's spelled. You get the point.

    He's cool as f*ck.

    ~Tammi~

  • @RockyWhyNott Agree...Not only did Ben have seductive lips, I think Elliot does too! But Ben to me is just mesmerizing all around...

  • Still dream about you Benjamin

  • Oh that Ben...he had all the moves and then some.

  • We a need a Cars tour 2010.

  • @LisaMcIntosh007 It may be coming sooner than you think.....check out Elliot Easton's Facebook Page

  • @kjtoomb Thanks! I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whoa...the quality on this is top notch!

  • Orr or Else......Nothing!

    Miss you Darling Ben.

    ~T.~

    XX

  • good god this excellent quality from you and the cars

  • great band!! one of my favorites!

all of these guys are great! ric. ben. greg. elliot. david. <3

  • i just can't keep my eyes off of Ben :) he's so gorgeous sexy!

  • Great quality for a great song :D

  • @ PokerJoker811 - Sounds like your dad is around my age. I was lucky enough to see The Cars several times from their start and at their peak and yeah they were not the most flashiest or entergentic band in history but they were one of the best bands that could reproduce their studio sound live. They rocked every time I saw them. So many bands past and present didn't sound as good live as their studio stuff and thought putting on a show could replace that.

    cadirector 10 minutes ago

  • I know Ric is the man, but...Is it just me or does the songs that Ben sings just sound better live???

  • I think they might have pulled that song out on purpose for the ending with that unenthusiastic looking crowd

  • the cars are so great

  • Badass shit by The Cars. Raw. Live. The best.

  • BEAT-TLE !!!!

  • oh to have been in that crowd! The CARS are the best band to ever rock the planet!

  • This vid confirms to me what my dad told me about The Cars. They're the epitome of a studio band. They'll crank out great songs, but they don't know how to do a concert. Playing everything note-for-note from the album, no solos or anything, and everyone's completely frozen where they are, especially Ocasek. Basically, the only difference between a Cars concert and a Cars album is that with an album, you can sit down comfortably while listening to it.

  • Wow.... KICK ASS!!

  • They were a great band!! I saw them live in concert!! These kicked ass!!

  • Great!

  • This is one of my favourite Cars songs. Thanks for posting.

  • I am totally screwed -your all i got tonight.

    Everything else DOES NOT MATTER.

    Because........

  • AWEsome

  • One of my all-time fave songs. Almost impossible to do live, especially the vocals! But they kicked arse here, they shouldve stuck with this one during their future tours, they wouldve easily mastered it i believe. However, gotta admit the level of difficulty is off the charts. Kinda like most of their music. However, they do make it look so easy!

  • Ben at 3:02...mmmm

  • once again, stupid lyrics, but great music.

  • Elliot Easton is one of the greatest. How is this guy not more popular?

  • @hotprofdude True dat!

  • @hotprofdude

Because the real talents never will be such popular as the commercial "stars". That`s the reality of music business.

  • @hotprofdude ....I know! ....I guess he just didn't do enough tasteless and useless shredding...lol. The funny thing....his solos are SO clean and unique....and MUCH more difficult than shredding scales in MANY ways! The guy was just killer! I've been playing for 35 years....teaching for almost 20....all styles...and I can tell you...I can't STAND long, boring guitar solos anymore...lol. This guy just makes PERFECTLY fitting solos! ...and that's a LOT more difficult than most realize:)

  • @hotprofdude soo awesome

  • @hotprofdude I always thought the cars were the perfect mix of a new wave/rock band. And Elliott played the perfect hard rock tasty solos.

  • @Tacomadome24

    Couldnt of said it better!

  • @hotprofdude mY THOUGHTS EXACTLY

  • @hotprofdude simple Elliot is and has been for a long time a guitarist's guitar player, yes most def under-rated.

But most players are aware of his talent..

  • @hotprofdude totally agreed !! he's one of the most underrated guitar players ever ...

  • @giggie no fnk doubt!!!

  • Thank you So Much! I am 10 years old again...! I love the "Kars" forever!

  • thank you for being mature about the situation that is so rare these days and dont get me wrong i do like the cars but in my opinion in the eightes they flopped

  • @nick1137

I like both of Cars eras - 70s and 80s.

  • This is the cool thing about individuality. We can all have our own opinion. Too many people freak on YouTube with ridiculous retorts if someone submits a contrary opinion.

  • Ocasek may have been "bossy" but he led one of the greatest, most talented bands in history. These guys really had it together.

  • 3:02 Oh YEAH!

  • Elliot Easton's got his Nigel Tufnel on.

  • Hahaha He totally has his Nigel Tufnel on. :-)

  • Can someone tell me more about "Rock Goes to College"?

  • This is one of the clearest videos i have ever seen on youtube! Great Job!!!!!

  • Cannot thank you enough yuffenough for this post! You made my evening!

  • ric ocasek- rhythm guitar, lead vocals

    benjamin orr- bass guitar, vocals

    david robinson- drums

    elliot easton- lead guitar, vocals

    gregory hawkes- keyboards, vocals

  • Ben just could not have been any more beautiful or cool for that matter..

  • According to Elliot Easton, Ocasek was so bossy that he would even personally 'choose the color of the band members' underwear!'

  • Well it paid off letting him be the boss! Look how far they got in the music industry

  • I'd do anything Ric told me to do if I was anywhere around such talent.

  • I don't care!!!!!!!!

a song to grow up with.

  • FANTASTIC! Thanks! I love how the Cars blended R&R & New Wave into a commercially viable mix for a broader audience. The band reeked of talent!

  • SUPER POST! THANKS so much! Luv it Luv it luv it!!

  • What a great quality of the video (sound and image)! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THE POSTING!!!

  • You`re right! But I`m 26 and I always liked older music than modern. Actually, my taste in music is varied. BTW: Ben himself looks like a student with that necktie :-)

    Great music!!!

  • Some teens do. :) I know where its at. I'm 19 years old and its all about Benjamin Orr for me baby! ;)
