Story of a Junkie is a great drug culture documentary styled film. It was originally titeld GRINGO. I wish i could have got my hands on that original VHS release, and for only $5!! This was filmed in 1984 so it is set in 84' Troma didint pick it up until 87' Great upload i enjoyed this series of videos.
Sounds cool. But I hate drug users on film. But I love it too. I am so torn on beauty and ugliness. I want to be sweet but I am a scumbag at heart. I talked to a Murder Junkie fan at the bar tonight who had some good stories. Talk to you about that soon. Heroin rules!
Honestly I don't really care for drug use on film either. I think it's an interesting flick because it was shot in New York's Alphabet City in the mid 80s. It's like a snapshot in time to me. I thought it was an interesting movie though, especially considering that the producer and director had literally no problem shooting people basically killing themselves. It's incredibly strange.
I haven't seen this movie or any of the documentaries that Lech Kowalski has made,I get so bummed out by all the poverty and drug use.I hope you pull out some "real" Troma in house produced movie next time.Story of a Junkie, and so many of the other movies in the Troma catalog, are just distributed by them, they had nothing to do with the production. I like the crazy movies that Lloyd Kaufman directed himself in the 80`s.
Honestly I think people know about the stuff that Kaufman has directed himself. These videos are probably going to be aimed towards stuff that is a lot less Troma than what people think. I basically wanted to highlight some of their different stuff. I'm aware they just distributed it, but I think their best titles are stuff that they just picked up and distributed. Personally I found Story of a Junkie to be an incredibly powerful flick.
I've read reviews on Story of a Junkie, they are mostly positive,so it's probably a "better" movie than most Troma movies.I'm just a sucker for "bad" gory Troma movies, but I'm interested in seeing what you pick out next.Perhaps there are some hidden gems in movie land that I haven't seen or heard about. Nice work, and I will be watching.
I guess that depends on what your opinion of "better" is. I know what you mean and I like Troma's cheesy stuff too but I'm trying to highlight what I think the gems of the company are. I think I have some interesting choices for the series. Obviously if you've seen the newest video you know the next choice.
