  • I would give 10 years off my life to have been at the original 1972 Hot August Night concert at the Greek Theater.... I'm 41, and this has been my favorite album since I was 12.... simply phenomenal....

  • @gr8fuldude1970 Tree people out there, God bless you-- I'm singing for you, too.

  • Igual que hace 30 años...increible...

  • this is shit, real sound on wrong footage

  • I could be wrong but it looks like Ronny Tutt (ex Elvis TCB Band) on drums

  • WTF is crunchy granola sweet?

  • correct the sound we are herring here is from the 12 greatest hits.

  • The first song was definitely the 1972 original - the next one was from this one. Too bad there don't seem to be any actual videos from the 1972 concert. Still, once misconception this upload removed for me was - I always thot it was the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Turns out it was the one in LA! Thanks for the upload.

  • 35 years ago this mofo still sounds the same! and has the beat for it ... just have to love him! thnk god for the musicians of the 80'S

  • I have the vinyl...I would kill to keep it.

  • hot august night is definatly in the top 10 of all time (if not No 1) what a album. i was 3 weeks old when it was recorded

  • Good lord! It's lip-synced!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you Eydie Glassman!!!

  • Neil gave props to "The Tree People" at the end of "Done Too Soon" You can hear them,Barely,in the background in the original '72 Album!

  • AN AWSOME SONG:

  • My favourite singer.... my favourite song.

  • It still sounds so much like on the album!

  • the sound on the video as the song starts was covered up by the original recording from 1972

  • Ha ha. I figured as much!

  • I was at the Hot August Night concert at the Greek and the joy of that event will be burned into my mind if I live to be 100. We were there opening night. Warm, the breeze blowing, trees full of people in back of the seats and Neil Diamond at his prime. He was loosing his voice by the time he got to Brother Love. I will be forever be thankful I was there. You can't imagine the MAGIC!!! Have been to a lot of concerts at the Greek but nothing matched that night!!

  • Awesome--sure wish i was their-always wanted to see him in concert!! times like that you will never forget!!

  • @AZHappy

  • I can see what EydieGlassman did here. Very clever montage indeed. The sound system actually failed at 6:11 in reality but here it carried on. You're a good director EydieGlassman!

  • What a fake

  • My mom loved Neil as well....she played him contstantly....and I grew to be a fan as well. Have seen him a few times and he's AWESOME live. RIP Mom......still rockin to Neil for you!

  • I recently rediscovered this song and listen to it on my ipod all the time. My mom had the album when I was a kid and played it a lot. I'd love to go back in time and be at the concert. It still kicks ass after all these years. awesome.

  • Lookit that old man GO!

  • omg I love this so much. it is the origial 1972 Hot August Night concert. It's the closest I'll ever get to that amazing show. I wore that album out when I was like 12 years old. I will NEVER get tired of it. Thanks for posting this

  • Imagine.

Los Angeles. 1972. The Vietnam War was raging. Nixon was the President.

An electrifying concert with one of the best instrumental openings ever recorded

  • I wonder if there was ever any video of the 1972 Hot August Night series of concerts at the Greek Theater. That would be fantastic.

  • There must be a video somewhere coz I remember seeing it on TV Hot August night live at the Greek theater..

  • I have searched several sources online, the only video that I can find is the Love at The Greek VHS which was released in 76 (I think). If you find anything for the 72 Hot August Night series, please post. Thanks.

  • 'Hot August Night' was, unfortunately, never video recorded. Neil had spent so much on the other technicalities of the show that he couldn't stomach spending any more (See Rich Wiseman's 1986 'Solitary Star'). Unless anyone has a small camera phone from 1972 that they recorded the show with, it's not there :-( I admit, I'd give one of my kidneys to witness this wondrous event IN PERSON.
