  • ....... Well, i agree and disagree. But yeah, it's parkour. It's hard to explain. Extremely hard. In my opinion. The more people try to explain it. The more of it we lose. To be honest, Parkour and Free Running are the samething, The definition is only what you choose. That is MY belief on this. Make your own belief. Do as you wish, just always love and find yourself.

  • I love this video.... See Ima hefty guy, and hefty guys are told they can't do parkour. But this video makes me feel liek anyone can do it if they have the heart and mind-set.

  • at school parkour is banned but i put on my baliclava and camofluage gear and tare up the school! I even deliver notes from teachers to teachers and your backflip saved me from dieng so xoxox (not gay!)

  • this vid i see it every week just to feel happy i do parkour i love my way of life all thanks to videos like this thanks dude for postin this maybe people will see the light.peace.davi23

  • i like what your getting at. but there are better examples you could have chosen besides xgames skateboarding. cause those guys are really out there for the most part just to skate and have a good time doin it. personally i would have chosen football as an example of obnoxious over competition.

  • HAHA!! Nice I hope this will shut up all the idiots who don't know the difference between Parkour and Freerunning!!! Rock on! My fellow Traceur!! I'd like your opinion, Real quick, on this parkour vid I made... sorry if its a bother... LOVE your vid though!

  • @JoekaProductions - No bother, nice to see people who still no the old way....shame that it is now the old way after all of 2 years :/

  • @ParkourBlog you should read the book Rise by Gabriel Arnold if you have not already. its a frightening vision of what the future of parkour might be. i agree that the true meaning of parkour is fading fast. hopefully not everyone will go to the darkside...even if they do have cookies

  • nice dude, i just started parkour yesterday ive been practicing on garbage bins bleechers kid playgrounds and picnic tables im alright i cant flip in the air i can only roll and jump high lol but i like your videos theyve helped me out alot since im just starting

  • Keep the philosophical essence my friend. Rock on. I logged in after how many months just to leave this comment. Etre et durer

  • one thing i want to know is what happened to that guy with the skate board?

  • @turboxshadow he is ok now

  • isn't parkour getting from one place to another the fastest way possible, and free running being really showy ?

  • @Kirby98786 no free running is more flips and freestyle thats were the name came from

  • You know you wouldn't run away from a lion? Keep running after landing. Good luck.

  • I completely agree on the give it all you got segment

  • original known as l'art du deplacement

was then changed into le parkour

then when 'jump london' came out they needed to translate le parkour to something english that still made sense

thats where the word free running came from

in the end its all movement so it doesn't really matter

  • yeh.......

i'm guessing you didn't watch the video

Most of what you just said was very very wrong.

  • Very wrong? Jezus, everyone have his own definition of parkour, same as graffiti and other things. But i do know one thing. Having monopol for parkour definition isn't good. I dont have to watch this video to know that your s**ttalking is the bad way of teaching people parkour. So please, just stop to be big-headed and rethink of what I've said to you. Peace!

  • @ParkourBlog what he said was absolutely right.. you need to get your sources right.

  • @ParkourBlog actualy he is right for the most part, dont know the specifics but free running, parkour, le parkour and l'art du deplacement are all differnt names for the same thing.

  • @tomthehamster freerunning wasn't created by 'jump london' sebastien foucan created it, it is a lot different to parkour

  • @tomthehamster dude did u see the vid freerunning aitn parkour to diffrent things that look slightly similar

  • Ah Hamisanoob...Please everyone understand, there is no difference between Parkour and Freerunning and l'art du deplacement....they are different names for this movement we practice! The media and false interpretations has created this separation. Each individual will have his or her different, unique style of moving and interacting with their environment--some will move more efficiently, some will move flashy--what's important to remember is MOVEMENT IS MOVEMENT...stop this separation!

  • ummmmmmmm.......wrong.

There is a difference....a big difference. What is wrong with you? media has actually made there be no seperation.....in an ideal world free runners would free run and traceurs would practice parkour...

Its idiots like you that think they know more than they actually do that is stopping this from happening.

Do your research, you have a lot to learn b4 you start making comments like this.

  • too true

  • @ParkourBlog Throwing this out there man, from your movement, youre not that experienced with either arts.. if you ask livewire, ilibaca, any of the best traceurs in the world, they dont consider there to be a difference.

  • @ParkourBlog wrong again, look up yamakasi and their view on free running and parkour.(if you dont know who they are you have no right to talk.

  • @RunForeverFree - I know who they are, they're a free running movement. Read what I just said then, maybe 2 or 3 times. Plus, also read what you said second - In your first comment you say 'they (parkour + freerunning) are all the same' and then you go and separate them up top.

Also of course they're going to want to be part of parkour, its the cool thing to be....but look up David Belle, read what HE has to say rather than a bunch of dick acrobats with no morals, and then come talk to me.

  • @ParkourBlog they arn't just a movement they are the begining the point of origin.they are the orignonal nine that started parkour. and of course i seperate differnt words. ether way wether they call themselves free runners or tracuers they are still our brothers.

  • @ParkourBlog they arn't just a movement they are the begining the point of origin.they are the orignonal nine that started parkour. and of course i seperate differnt words. ether way wether they call themselves free runners or tracuers they are still our brothers.oh and david belle is an x-member of the yamakasi, hes the one who says there is no difference.

  • @RunForeverFree - No fool, they split up over this disagreement...Yamakasi then became a branch...it is not Parkour, when they actually become a 'group' David and Sebastian were not part of it....

Jesus man, this a common knowledge...

  • no, David Belle founded Parkour, and Sebastian Foucan founded Freerunning.

I have Sebastian Foucan's book, and he says Freerunning is much different.

  • I agree. In my experience, anyone still running this argument of "ZOMG FLIPZ AREN"T PARKOURZ!!!11!!1" either haven't been training long enough, or are missing the point.

  • If everyone is still so keen to slap names and classifications on our exploration of movement and continue to limit their self progression, by all means feel free; but seeing as we all seem to feel the need to tell each other that we're all completely wrong and idiotic, someone should probably call Daniel Ilabaca and tell him he's not a traceur. Oh and Chase Armitage. Oh and Sabastien Foucan.

  • It's at the higher levels of training that the two begin to be interchangeable. Getting from a to b without slowing or deliberation is a key ideal behind parkour, but not one to be taken so literally. How many traceurs have you met that you consider to be amazing at what they do? Of those, how many have tried to force their opinion of classification on you? "No, no. Son you're obviously a freerunner, silly boy". Not many i'm betting.

  • As competition has no true place in this discipline, neither does arrogance or an argumentative state of mind such as this.

And if this truly is how you feel, and the basis of this argument burns you on such a profound level... well, i would recommend you reassess where your training, or at least your approach to it, is taking you.

  • @ElementalMovement jajajajaja wrong dude parkour is the most efishen and safest way to get 2 somewere in other words checkpoint A to checkpoint B freerunning is to show of tricks and its a competition theyr so ''similar'' that u dont notice

i have bad grammar sorry 4 that

  • sry for the inconvenience.

  • nahhh no probs, i was a little pissed of ND couldn't quite beat USC :( was sooooooo close. You got caught in the crossfire

  • I know... i was simply posting a comment to backup a point i was making in another vid comment. I referred someone to this vid so they could see that there is a difference between Parkour and Free Running... and i was commenting on the points in the vid were the point was made.

  • I actualy recorded what would be faster; run to other side of table(starting almost at point B) or jump over table(starting at point A) and the jump is faster. By a lot....even if you just start right next to point B with a run the jump is much faster.

  • 0_o

It's faster for you to jump over a table than run a lesser distance? Then there's something wrong with your running technique!

  • no I am saying that It took me less time to jump a table than it did for some one else to run a lesser disance.

  • that makes no sense to me unless they are a slow runner ... maybe I'm not picturing it right?!! =P

  • Its not tha. Haha I can do a perfect speed vault thats why :)

  • we use the table to train for a harder situation so the kong vault can be used where you cant run around the obsticle or jump over it

  • precisely. I use kongs all the time to clear distance and monkey up things I cant just jump up onto.

  • if a sport is ever called parkour, i will do everything i can (pretty much nothing) to make it free running

  • damn....that skater really knows the meaning of the word pain....

    Great video though

  • nice video !!!!

pretty much laughing about the lion!!!

  • This is a pretty simple discription of the philosophy. There isn't really much of it.

  • *sigh* do people read any more?

Title - 'Parkour Philosophy Part 1 - Brief Outline'

Definition of Brief - A condensation or an abstract of a larger document or series of documents.

That is why there isn't very much of it. I only covered the main points i.e Parkour not a sport, Parkour not for show, Parkour = A-B and Competition is bad.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, Parkour and freerunning is art. Not sport. sure compititions are good for spreading your name but people are only good as they push to be.

  • im agree with you 100% thats it!!!! Parkour its not fun and just jumps for action.

  • parkour can be fun :P

  • yes maybe But its not just for fun to make it ..

  • why not :'(

parkour can be fun to do, and to watch.

  • That was great. :)

  • man thanks u gave me hope. but teh reason i am doing parkour is to impress poeple and especially girls to be freinds with me so i cud be popular.

  • well thats really up to you, but its not what parkour is for. Your better off freerunning, thats for impressing people

  • finaly someone else gets the differance

  • another basic definition of parkour is:

"GET AWAY FROM THE BIG, HUNGRY, IMAGINARY, LION THAT IS CHASING THROUGH DOWNTOWN FOR NO GOOD REASON"

    ...yeah....

  • You seem to have missed the point. Obviously the lion bit was an exaggeration. The point of Parkour is overcoming the environment using only your body. If you were being chased, you wouldn't waste time and energy going around rails, walls, fences, etc, you'd try to get away from your pursuer as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Think of it this way, instead of winding around things, Tracuers (Parkour practitioners) go as the crow flies; that it, right over the top.

  • yeah, I understand all that, I just found that explanation to be slightly amusing

  • Its actually an analogy almost :)

Parkour = person being chased by lion

  • The person who started and came up with Parkour said that was the base of Parkour; you run as if you are being chased.

And jumping over walls, fences, etc. can get you away faster from someone/thing that cannot do the same.

Since a humans reaction is to 'fight or flight' Parkour is training you in the 'flight', while martial arts/others train you in the 'fight' aspect.

  • Actually I've seen teh wall flip been used to actually overcome obstacles in tight places where you can't vault, it's cool how creative its become.

  • I also like Wikipedia's comment about parkour. Three things you can do in a fight: speak, flight, or fight. Martial arts train you for the fighting while parkour trains you for the fleeing.

  • thx for that video, I've said "Parkour" and people say "what's that". It's difficult to explain sometimes. As a beginning tracour, I look forward to your second video!

  • yer, i'm never sure what to say, normally i go with that i'm training myself to get away efficiently if a monster starts chasing me...however that often just brings more questions :P

  • lol yeah, probably like "are you insane?" I try to say it's a discipline like a martial art where you try to get from one point to another point by getting over obstacles e.g. walls

  • It's really annoying when I say "Parkour" and people just say it's the same as "jumping around like a monkey".

  • Very inspiring love your visd donka thank you~~~

  • Nice Explenation! Thx =]

    5 Stars 4 u!

  • Nice! ive been trying parkour and ill post some videos for you to watch, but im shit and so are my mates that done it with me.I like this video and fuck that dude at the end :S man that had to hurt

  • he was fine, broke a few things, but he got up and walked away and i tihnk is back skateboarding and just keeping trying we all start somewhere, find your weaknesses and train them

  • My weakness would have to be climbing, i dunno how i can pull myself up ? i usally use my legs but theres not always going to be a step for me to step on. any tips?

  • in my favourites theres a video called 180 wall climbs and MUG or something to that effect, watch it, it may help.

  • Ok thanks :D

  • Just do a few pullups every day, you'll need the upper body strength to simply pull yourself up if theres nothing to step on, or if the wall is too smooth to use your feet at all.

  • are pullups the same as chinups?

  • The terms can be used interchangeably, but I've been told chin-ups is where your palms face inward, and pull-ups is where your palms face outward. Anyway, whatever you call them, do both ways.

  • ok i just call it back hand and fore hand chin-ups lol :D

  • Yeah man, doesn't matter what you call 'em as long as you do 'em.

  • same here bud but im no where in your legue let stand, the crazy dudes with flipz and all

  • im training for parkour fast and smart thinking but also to do dangerous moves :)

  • train however you want, just don't confuse freerunning and parkour is what i think i was trying to say with this video. I personally quite like a good freerun :)

  • great about the Competition thing true words, that make it a true ''sport''or thing to do ;)and to exprerience it

  • yer, i dunno, i never really agreed with the whole competition thing untill i started looking deeper into exsteme sports and the huge risks they take...for exaple i dunno who it was but they did a double back on a motorbike, fair do's it was amazing, but before he did it it said goodbye to his kids and told his wife to exspect the worse...i just don't think any exstreme sport (just forgoing the fact that parkour is neither of these technically) should be like that

  • Pakour is amazing it is not a sport they should never make a sport of it it is an art of the body, mind, and soul.

  • did i say it was a sport? coz i shouldn't have?

  • No, you didn't I am just stating my opinion about the whole some people take it as a sport lol. You have kinda been like my teacher practically I learn all my stuff from your parkour videos lol so thanks for that they have totally helped me.

  • thankyou :) and good, i was worried for a while then :P

but yer, parkour is defiantly less of a sport and more of an art or way of life :)

  • Yeah parkour just makes my soul feel free like i have no boundaries and no limits.

    Traceur, Hangcat
