@cbsmoraine just a tune, exhaust, and intake u can run 12s in a duramax and a 6.4 powerstroke. Add a little spray to the powerstroke and you can run 11s easy.
@lb7boy I would say it depends on the tuner, cause if you go too agressive on the tune, your replacing the trans. but if you dont go aggressive enough, that 12 seconds is going to be rough to get. not saying its impossible, but it definately would be a bitch. @chawoosemothergoose The last time i saw a 06 GT run at the strip it ran a 14.4, it was an auto but that is still depressing. my dodge diesel that weighs 7000lbs runs 13.4 with just a programmer and a turbo and my tranny is slipping. once i get my torque converter i expect maybe a 13.3.

i will agree. they are dogs stock. but i have an 06 cummins (yes, fully built tranny, not stock) and mine hasnt leaked anything at all yet. and my tranny held up to a 180 horse tune. i just put the new tranny in because i put an MP-8 on it and knew it wouldnt hold. so i got a fully built tranny with torque converter lock-up (not Co-Pilot, or any of those, my friend works for Scheid diesel and he got regular lockup switched to work on newer trucks)

I once picked up two magizines, First Diesel Power, then Diesel Tech, wondering that if Diesels can move thousands of pounds(or Tons) across the country, then how much more powerful are they? But I also thought they had a shit load horspower, and I was right, too bad you need alot of gears to maintain peek HP.
The reason a duramax making 600+ hp will leave a z06 with 500+ hp has nothing to do with horsepower......The weight is compensated because while the z06 probably only makes around 550 to 600 ftlb of torque, The duramax probably makes around 1,000 to 1,200 ftlb of torque. Torque is where its at in the drag race.
I saw the z06 and the Dura run..now I was told that the Dura is puttin out 600+ hp and the Zo6 500+...what amazes me is how is the truck gettin around the weight issue. Kinda like a regular vette racing a turbo subaru...but u wouldnt see a vette walk away like this Duramax is doing.. So what does the Dura modifications include, besides the obvious upgrades
I believe I was mistaken. This isn't the same truck as the dmax vs z06. Not sure why, but the 2500HD's seem to hook up really well without mods. They come from the factory with a locking diff. Plus, the turbo really doesn't spool hard until the top of the rpm band. Not a lot of mods required to make a Dmax fast. 345hp/740ft lbs with just a cold air intake, 4" magnaflow exhuast, and 5 stage Edge Juice Attitude.
Well steve the first thing is the fact that we launch in 4wd and we get 1.6 60foot times.
#2 is those guys are dumb enough to run fords =) #3 you need to realize it AINT HP that makes a vehical fast its TORQUE and that 600 hp = 900 to 1000 ft lbs of it at the rear wheels =) those poor mustangs are lucky to have 200 at the crank.
I talk 2 a buddy of mine who races fords, and he was basically sayin the same thing. But after years of watching racers and racing litening up cars for quickness is still a mazing 2 watch a 6 or 7000lbs vehicle walk away like its light as a feather
@jjs4you2 Rear wheel drive vehicles use spoilers to help with down force. So, actually it does help them. Go rag on the civics that have the big wings for no reason. On a side note, those mustangs are slow... but thats a trans am at 1:10, so good job video maker?

I actually own three mustangs, a 67 gt350, a 69 mach 1 and a new shelby. I also own an 07 duramax. It's crazy what these trucks can do when you mod them. I think my mach 1 could beat it but I'm not sure. My mach 1 has about 900hp but is almost all top end power. Someday maybe I will trust a friend of mine and go to the strip. It would be interesting.

That truck is stock. I have an 07 with an intake, exhaust and a bullydog pmt, and when I stomp on it there is a cloud of black smoke. There was no black smoke on that truck. So it is stock. As for Duramax being a joke, you can tell that to the corvette's powerstokes and cummins that as they were left in my rear view mirror. I have yet seen a truck in my class been able to keep up with me other than the duramax.
i agree, the diesel has no rev limit on it, my uncle has a 03 duramax ( silverado ), and that thing hauls. he was doin about 113-120 up a hill , pulling a 14,000lb trailer. so again, the duramax is unmatched.

Jetforce no you can rev the diesel so the turbo will spin up then floor it on launch. It acts like a clutch. I have a lock up torque converter in my dodge that I hit just as a launch and get full power though the trans.

the duramax is a great engine and so far is the leader in stock diesel power. but the cummins is a more reliable engine. and the new 6.7 is supposed to be putting out 350 horse and 650 torque. i know that at first they said it was less but i guess they changed it. yea the 6.0 sucks ass but the 7.3 was a good engine. sorry for the long commentary. peace

03 Cummins, 5 speed, SO engine. I love it. Got 525/996 on the dyno with the current mods, and that was on completely stock fuel system. I have a FASS now, so fuel pressure shouldn't be a problem next time I put it on like last time. I'm gonna shoot for close to 600 next time around. You have one too? They're all fun!

That truck is stock. I have an 07 with an intake, exhaust and a bullydog pmt, and when I stomp on it there is a cloud of black smoke. There was no black smoke on that truck. So it is stock. As for Duramax being a joke, you can tell that to the corvette's powerstokes and cummins that as they were left in my rear view mirror. I have yet seen a truck in my class been able to keep up with me other than the duramax.

i agree, the diesel has no rev limit on it, my uncle has a 03 duramax ( silverado ), and that thing hauls. he was doin about 113-120 up a hill , pulling a 14,000lb trailer. so again, the duramax is unmatched.

Jetforce no you can rev the diesel so the turbo will spin up then floor it on launch. It acts like a clutch. I have a lock up torque converter in my dodge that I hit just as a launch and get full power though the trans.

Fast truck. What ET's? Stock? Isuzu makes great engines. I almost bought a Chevy dually in 1995 with a Chevy diesel in it. It couldn't get out of its own way. I guess if you can't build one yourself, have a real diesel manufacturer make it for you.

the duramax is a great engine and so far is the leader in stock diesel power. but the cummins is a more reliable engine. and the new 6.7 is supposed to be putting out 350 horse and 650 torque. i know that at first they said it was less but i guess they changed it. yea the 6.0 sucks ass but the 7.3 was a good engine. sorry for the long commentary. peace

03 Cummins, 5 speed, SO engine. I love it. Got 525/996 on the dyno with the current mods, and that was on completely stock fuel system. I have a FASS now, so fuel pressure shouldn't be a problem next time I put it on like last time. I'm gonna shoot for close to 600 next time around. You have one too? They're all fun!
