Hi I was going to paint my guitar with a canary yellow on quilted maple so I was just curious when you put the black on first is this to bring up the quilted effect more?
Inspirational.. I'm working on doing a similar job to my guitar after watching this and I just got my veneer in and it isn't nearly as flat as I expected. It is somewhat wavey/bubbly and i'm afraid it'll show some bubbles when I glue it to the body. I was just curious if yours was the same way when you got it?
Is it possible to do a veneer inlay on a guitar? for instance a recessed pick guard? Why doesn't anyone do it? I'd like to try it on a 1990 J Bass. Any recommendations or advice? You rock!
goo process for putting a veneer on a pre cut body but remeber if your going to do one from a body blank apple the veneer pree cuting it out unless you are going to contour
I have a question. Do I still need to apply veneer if I want my body to be in natural finish? And instead of applying lacquer on the body can I use Tung Oil for the shine? Like on the neck.
do you have to aply the vaeer befor painting, im 15 making my first guitar, i picked up a old broken ibanez xp and sanded down the body to the wood, (ill be putting custom parts) but i dont know how to paint it, do i put a flat first? then a clear coat? i have no clue, help would be very much aprecieated.
@JustinDosntCare Hi mate im 15 to i painted my first guitar when i was 14 wasnt a succses story but if you take your time aand are carefull you can get a really good outcome.depends whats time of fisnh you want and budget you have.Im not expert but i did alot of researching online and there is loads i reccomend you do the same.
I watched your video an made a template an tried cutting the veneer before gluing an it sure is hard to cut the veneer with an exacto-blade I'm almost ready to just forget the maple veneer top. ... any suggestions ... ?
@neonlittledog I was thinking the same thing (about the difficulty of using an exacto knife for this). I was wondering why not use a little laminate-trimmer router and a flushcut router bit. I've never done veneer, but I've done some laminate/formica wor, and that's how that gets trimmed to perfection after it's glued down. I would think it would work well for this application, although I'm sure the base of the router would need to be covered in cloth so as not to scratch the veneer.
awesome videos dude, i'm making my own Carvin bolt kit right now. I plan to do some more builds very soon. Did you buy this kit from originaljems as well??
THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God bless you soooo much dude! lol i was looking EVERYWHERE to learn this process lol Thanks bro! awesome ax btw lol
Spectacular work man! Quick question, how would i go about applying veneer to an uneven surface? (i.e. les paul) Is it flexible? would i need to heat it?
Dude, I just watched all of your vids, and I have to day you did a damn good job. You have very good taste. I may be restoring a Kramer 600st sometime soon. Cheers!
Would you do that job again or do u think its to much of a prick? I Wana do this but i havnt done it before and not sure if i should try especially on my RG470 Ibanez
I enjoyed applying the veneer, but it depends on what kind of person you are. If you're not careful and patient, you will receive frustration. However, I'm lucky in this case to successfully apply it for the first time.
is there a paticular reason why when you cut the holes for the knobs you stabed down? why not up from the bottom? wouldn't that be easier or would it affect the vener?
veneer is a finely cut slice of wood. It's thin so you can glue it one furniture like tables and it has some flexibility, but it's actual wood so it could snap if bent too far
I've been doing homework all weekend so I didn't take the time to add the links on the channels. I will later this week though. School before winter break suuuuucks
how would you do this to a carved top?

apply white glue to both surfaces and let it dry until clear, then you can just iron it on.

Cant you see any gap between the veneer and the guitar? seems like impossible to totally make it smooth?

Wouldn't it be easier to trim at least the edge with a veneer trimming router bit?

nestron3030 2 years ago
cutting from the back might chip off veneer around the rim of the hole, no one wants that
DUY1337GUITAR 2 years ago
WOW! Why even ask that question? Is it really THAT important?
iThrashNano 2 years ago
yes i do find it important asshole not everyone here's a master wood worker
nestron3030 2 years ago
I'm not "a master wood worker". If he cuts from the top, there's obviously a reason because cutting from the bottom would be more convenient.
iThrashNano 2 years ago
whatever dude quit talking down to people and go thrash another nano somewhere
nestron3030 2 years ago
why did you put that stuff on why not just paint the guitar nomrally or i am just being a noob?
blackstars26 2 years ago
I wanted a natural wood finish. A solid-colored guitar would be boring to build. Most DIYists build natural wood finishes, too.

DUY1337GUITAR 2 years ago
awesome videos dude!!!.....how how much money are you spent for this guitar???
P.S. sorry for bad english
TheMilan1994 2 years ago
I've spent around $700 because this is a tremolo guitar plus home finishing is very very expensive, but for me it was worth it.
