Why is this called "The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain"? Did they forget that Islamic Portugal was also part of al-Andalus. They also didn't mention that southern France was part of al-Andalus for a time (and so was the tiny modern-day country of Andorra and even Monaco I think). If you had seen the whole documentary (plus more information on this subject not shown in this video) then you would have known that major group of Al-Andalus's population was descendants of white Christians who had converted to Islam, they were called the muladies. Yes, there were plenty of Berbers and a small amount of Jews (and a very small amount of Arabs and blacks), but the majority of the Muslims in Al-Andalus were native whites.

I could live at peace with a Dutch reform protestant Christian, but I would feel fearful near a fundie Catholic, who would put me to the test, and approved of the auto da fe. It is a matter of discernment. I doubt that a Taliban culture could come up with something as beautiful as Moorish troubadour songs of love.

From what I've gathered, his behavior/values seemed to change later in life, so I point to the passing of his wife (and also his uncle, who was more like a father). If you had seen the whole documentary (plus more information on this subject not shown in this video) then you would have known that major group of Al-Andalus's population was descendants of white Christians who had converted to Islam, they were called the muladies. Yes, there were plenty of Berbers and a small amount of Jews (and a very small amount of Arabs and blacks), but the majority of the Muslims in Al-Andalus were native whites.

Berbers aren't black, and there were few blacks who came to Iberia (Portugal and Spain), and there were also few Arabs who settled there, although the Muslim population was Arabized, meaning they spoke Arabic and adopted Arab ways.
