  • "the voices" of the temptations, Eddie and David.. two absolutely gifted and uncanny singers. stinks there will will never be another group comparable now a days with the worlds horrible taste is music.....

  • @mvode AMEN, couldn't agree more!!!

  • Thanks.

  • @SuperLtrain1 Glad you enjoyed, I have more Motown videos!

  • thanks for a great mix ! some i know some i didnt - love that tammi terrell one-

p.s. that spinners sounded different to my version

    cheers alan

    keep the faith x

  • @alanrp360 That was my whole point, exposing songs to people familiar of the source. I used the single mono mix for that Spinners song, maybe the stereo version is an alternate mix? Not sure. Motown really did the wrong thing by keeping that Tammi song in the vault like that, everyone LOVES her version! Thanks for watching & I have 4 other Motown 50th videos, check them out too!

  • My Bro. I 'LOVE' your reppin' it out man! Just somethin' about your spirit comes across, and your heart towards the 'music' just really got to me! "Here Comes The Sunrise" is perhaps one of my FAVORITE Supremes' songs by the way. The only one I hadn't heard was Ruffin's 'Say It Again'! I felt awesome hearing all this stuff. I really did devour every piece of Motown Music I could find in my folks' collection! Will check out your other stuff too man! God Bless U Bro.

    Carl Jenkins

  • @stage7 Well brotha, I thank you so much for checking out my video!!! I'm not a big Supremes fan that much anymore (long story LOL), but it's REALLY all about Motown for me, not just specific artists! I have 4 other Motown videos, this one is the second. Please check those out. I don't know why this one is more popular than the other 4!!! LOL Thanks again man!

  • "As Long As I Know He's Mine" by the Marvelettes was popular in the Black market. It reached #3 on the R&B chart in 1963.

  • @behdoc We know that, but if you mention their name to the average fan, they will say "Please Mr. Postman" and/or "Don't Mess With Bill" before that song. My mother didn't even remember the song by title until she heard it, thus making that song "unpopular". Thanks for watching & I have 4 other Motown 50th videos, check them out when you can!

  • @behdoc It also reached number one at home for them in December 1963 on the predominant rock station, WKNR. Definitely one of their best cuts.

  • Stevie Wonder - "Thank You Love" from the Down To Earth album, I think, is also an underrated song. I'll never forget the day I first heard it. Love the list of songs you got there.

  • @DMob888333 I love that song by him! Have you heard the version by The Elgins? Not bad at all. Thanks & I have 4 other Motown videos by the way!

  • @thruthealcove YES!! I have actually. I got so excited when I found out, haha! The jelly on that cover was like on the last verse, the background vocals. Ah man, talk about painting. Some good stuff. ooo I will definitely check those videos out.

  • @DMob888333 Okay great, looking forward to you're comments on those too!

  • Love this!

  • @DavilaAmor Thanks, I have 4 more Motown videos as well, please check them out too.

  • WHHHAAATTTT, I need Tammis version!

  • @SoulnSensual YES, you need that in you're life!!!

  • nice set. surprised to hear the Marvelettes covering the Emotions So I can Love you, a Stax song. The other surprise is Tammi Terrell's recording of All I Do. That sure sounds so nice. Yeah.... I love Stevie's version but it proves it's an awesome song.

  • @funkysoulguy Yes that can be a surprise, but all those artists covered each other's songs back then. And Tammi's version of that song blew me away when I first heard it!!! I still can't believe Motown kept that unreleased, it could have been her breakthrough as a solo artist at Motown before the Marvin duets. That really is a great song, whether by her or Stevie.

  • Thank you so much, you are truly the MAN!!! Tammi's new cd has just been release, do you think there'll be 1 for Syreeta, Blinky, and Mary Wells, with unrelease and extended songs ? Again thank you for helpping me find and learn more about MT.

    Touch.....Ava

  • @blackkatdiva23 Oh you're so welcome!!! I do know that a label called Reel Music is gonna release Blinky's unreleased album in the early part of next year, and I hope the rest of Syreeta'a albums come out eventually too, but no news on her or Mary Wells either. From what I understand, there isn't much unreleased stuff left on Mary, but you never know with Motown. I can't wait to get that Tammi set, after the new year tho.

  • @blackkatdiva23 Hey there! That version by Syreeta still remains unreleased, so what you heard was a bootleg!!! Linda Griner's song can be found on The Complete Motown Singles Vol. 3: 1963, and the UK compilation This Is Northern Soul! The Motown Sound Vol. 1. Both should be easy to find, good luck!

  • there were 12songs i did'nt know????

  • Oh cool, which ones?

  • @thruthealcove

Haaa you, loved all the songs, took me back to what i doing at the time. You said Tammi T. was the 1st to record (All I Do), so when did Brenda H. record it, and have you heard her version ? It's almost the same, just a slitely differrent from Tammi's.

And I was told that there's another version out there. Anyway keep up the good work. Thanks for taking me back to some good time's in my life with Motown.

    Touch.

    Ava

  • @blackkatdiva23 Hey there! Tammi recorded this, I believe, in February of 1966, then Brenda recorded it with the same exact backing track with very minor differences in March of the same year. I believe there's a different vocal take of this by Brenda in the Motown vaults, but I'm not too sure about that yet. As much as I love me some Brenda, Tammi ATE this song IMO!!! LOL So glad you enjoyed this & I hope you'll watch the other 5 Motown videos I've done, thanks so much!!!

  • @thruthealcove You're right, we do love Brenda, BUT Tammi got this 1. There seemed tobe alittle more feeling on tammi's version than Brenda's. You can find (All I Do) on (Brenda Holloway's Motown Anthology CD) CD #2, track #10

I'm wondering why motown didn't release it (Tammi's) me myself think it would've done pretty well for her, it would have shown another side to Tammi's vocal styiling. Much Motown love to you.

    Touch.

    Ava.

  • @blackkatdiva23 Yes, I feel the same way, Brenda just sang the song, while Tammi OWNED it!!! Whenever I hear some of these unreleased Motown songs from those anthologies & the Cellarful series, I just wonder who was responsible for keeping these awesome songs from us fans!!! These were one of those songs where I just shook my head in amazement cuz it was such a high quality track!!! Still love Stevie's, by my goodness Tammi!!! Much Motown love to you too, and I have 5 other Motown videos too!!!

  • Good stuff! I dig the Stevie Wonder song "Sugar". Must hear more!!

  • Well, I got 5 more Motown videos, just go to my page & click on my playlist called "The Music", and all of them are in there!!! Thanks!!!

  • I love your energy and your music taste.

    Keep opening peoples eyes.

There's nothing like Motown soul to bring you up, both hits and the lesser known ones.

  • Well thanks so much!!! I have 6 other Motown videos, please check all of those out!!!

  • @thruthealcove I'll make sure to do that.

  • Great job! many of the artist's I love. I did it all by Eddie Kendricks is the bomp...

  • Thanks so much & yes that's one of my faves by him. The album that it comes from is also great!!!

  • Love The Marvelettes song

  • So do I, one of my faves!

  • Great video, brother!!!! Love me some Motown! And check out that James Jamerson bass!!! Damn!

  • Thanks & YES, Mr. Jamerson is THE baddest bass player that EVER lived!!! All of those riffs with just ONE finger, DAMN is right!!! LOL

  • @thruthealcove.. I already did... I have all of those also.... I love the oldies.... Cause it had feelings and meaning... plus soul.... I just love it.... Im getting my hubby into it now... Sometimes my friends come over and I pull that out and they are so shocked...That I got it all....

Thank for post the most wonderful music ever made.....

  • Okay, I have to be REALLY honest with you. I'm finding it kinda hard to believe that you have ALL of the songs I spotlighted in ALL 6 of my Motown videos, except for my latest one doing the 90's up to now. It took me YEARS to get most of those songs in my collection, except for all the songs in this particular vid. But I'm gonna take your word. I'm so glad that another young person loves & appreciates this kind of music, spread the word of REAL music!!! Thanks so much!!!

  • @thruthealcove I do have it.... I'm a old school junkie.... Since I was about 5 years old I felted in love with the oldies... I been collecting for 18 years.... Tust me... I love it.... Just glad to see others love the oldies also.... How can you not appreciate it.... Plus I was related to a very famous singer that came out back then..... No thank you for showing real music....

  • Okay, it's just that we are a rare & exclusive breed & we don't think highly of imposters!!! LOL Now, I have a whole lot of other videos with old school music & I have lots more coming, please check those out if you haven't already & thanks again!!!

  • @thruthealcove I understand...

  • I listen to Felix Hernandez and find your collection is just as enlightening. Keep up the good work. I wish you nothing but the best!!

  • Wow, I love Felix's show, especially when he's on WBGO where he really gets obscure with the music. Thanks so much, I have a few more Motown videos for you to see & hear BTW.

  • I really liked them all, though I had not heard most of them before. It's the SOUND, how can one not like all.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed this. That sound was so unmistakable, how could you lose with Motown? What a label it was!!!

  • @thruthealcove I have LOTS of Motown filling my IPod. I love it most, when I am alone, can lay back, close my eyes and just enjoy it ALL. I'm right back to growing up again, and the memories the songs bring back to mind are priceless! But when I came here and found what u had posted, I was very pleased, so thank you!

  • That's the very reason why I do these videos, to provoke feelings like this!!! And to put new & younger listeners on to it. You are so welcome!!! And BTW, I have a few more Motown videos that I've done, please check those out when you can, just go to my page & click on playlist, they're all in there.

  • This is the channel for me , one of friends saw it and told me to hurry up and look at it and I was going to love it, and I DO !!! It is great, this is my kind of music. Thanking you posting a channel that can remind us of some good times , when they said Soul Music, They sang from their souls

  • WOW, thank you so much for you comment, I really appreciate that!!!

  • Thanks SO MUCH for uploading these gems! I'm a Supremesaholic, and a singer myself with my 2 sibblings (The Dulanto Brothers) so again thanks for going through all this trouble =D

    I appreciate the medley!

  • Oh that's great & I'm glad you enjoyed this!!!

  • Excellent. Love all the songs. Never thought that I'd see them on here. 5*

  • Really? Well, someone had to do it!!! LOL Thanks!!!

  • Ok, I didn't think it was possible, I've been collecting Motown since 1964 (I was 11) used to not eat lunch to buy the latest Motown albums by the end of each week. But you stumped me on about 1/4 of the songs I didn't recognize. On the other hand some of them were my favs. As long as I know he's mine, great Marvelettes, Tammi sounds wonderful David always sounds wonderful And yes, I learned I don't know everything.

  • Now see, that's the beauty of old school music, there's ALWAYS something to learn & discover about it!!! I have 3 other Motown vids for you to check out, please do buddy & thanks for watching!!!

  • BTW, think your vids and commentary is incredible. You Tube has been amazing for me and a few of my friends who grew up with this stuff. I can remember where I was when I first saw a lot of the vids on here. Of course everybody waited until Sunday night and Ed Sullivan.

  • Thank you ever so much, I live for this stuff!!! Please watch my 3 other Motown vids, they're great too!!!

  • Show me the Way-the Supremes

Action Speaks louder than words-David Ruffin; To strong to be strung out - the Marvelettes; Come on and see me-Tammi Terrell; Happy Landing-Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. These are some of my favorites Motown songs. Thank you.

  • Hey, great songs, although I'm not too fond of that Supremes track, but it's better then some of their earlier ones!!! LOL Thanks for watching, I have 3 other Motown vids for you to check out!!!

  • @3:17, I swear that song sounds just like Cloud Nine. Thanks for sharing the Motown tidbits.

  • Well that song was written by Norman Whitfield & Barrett Strong, same as "Cloud Nine", so I can hear the similarities. Thanks for watching & I have 3 other Motown 50 vids, do check them out!!!

  • Yes, yes, yes, hell yes. Those tracks that were not the big hits are the best kept secrets. I am sure they will be surfacing soon as artist look for songs that will and can and have stood the test of time to cover. Nothing against todays writer as I am one however more than likely this will never be created again. The good news is there is enough songs like the ones U featured here to last 4ever. Thanx Bro 4 highlighting this.

  • Thanks so much, I couldn't agree more!!! Also, I have 2 other Motown videos that you should watch, please do!!!

  • I love Tammi Terell's version of All I Do listen to it everday ,thanks for this great video

  • Oh yes, what a wonderful version!!! To this day, I'm still baffled at why & how could Motown shelve that song!!! Glad you enjoyed the video, I have 2 other Motown vids you can check out as well & more on the way!!!

  • LOVED IT ! Thank you for the hard work you have put into this video. Some of the songs you spot lighted on I have. I ABSOLUTELY love Junior Walker And The All- Stars. Junior Walker was truly underrated artist that Berry Gordy wouldn't or couldn't control. Walker's sound was all his own and no one and I mean NO ONE could imitate. Walker's sound was funky, soulful, gutter, and sexual. Thank you for sharing. P.S. Could you do a little something on him ? Thanks !

  • Thanks so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed this one!!! I love Jr. Walker & his raw, gritty sound!!! I think it worked well with the Motown sound too. Now I would do something on him, but I really don't have much on him. The most I can do is feature another song or 2 of his in an upcoming Motown vid I'll be working on soon, so look out for that!!!

  • Well, maybe I could help with some suggestions. Here some of my favorites. Shotgun These Eyes Road Runner Pucker Up Buttercup Walk In The Night Do You See My Love For You Growing What Does It Take Do The Boomerang Shake And Fingerpop The last thing he recorded before his death was a sax solo for the song "Urgent" by Foriegner. I hope this list of my favorites help. Thank You !
  • I think you misunderstood me. I know those songs you listed, but I don't own a lot of his music. You see, I like to focus on the rare & obscure & he's not really considered rare, but lots of his songs are, but I don't have them!!! Great list though.

  • omg..i love this video...lol im only 18 but ilove MOTOWN...bit motown fan..love the era and music..lol iwas watching the video my uncle came in singing ihad to rewind it like 5 times so he can jam...lol thanx for the video!!!

  • WOW, this really is music the whole family can enjoy together, that's what Motown was all about!!! I'm so glad you guys enjoyed this video. I have 2 other Motown 50 videos, please take a look at those as well!!!

  • I luv it. I luv it. This was so much fun. I was shaking my head sooooooooo much, I got dizzy. The photos of rare 45's and albums was a bonus. Thanks. At the end of this work of art I toasted the host with my MOTOWN cup.

    Cheers

  • YAYYY we both have Motown cups!!! LOL Thanks & I'm so glad you enjoyed this!!! I made 2 other Motown videos, so PLEEEEEEEASE take a look at those as well!!!

  • A big "THANK YOU" from a big Motown-Fan!

  • Well your welcome from another big Motown fan!!!

  • Thanks for this great compilation. I would love to see you do more lesser known songs for just the Motown female singers and female groups.

  • Thanks, I'm so glad you enjoyed this!!! That's a great idea, but then I would have to do an all male group vid & so on & so on, and the anniversary will NEVER end!!! LOL But thanks for that one!!!

  • I all watched several of your video tonight, as a Motown fan I have to say that I will appreciate your perspective... thanks for teaching me so much this evening... you are the Motown professor...I really enjoyed the schooling.

  • Well thank you so much, I really appreciate that!!! I have a few more Motown 50 videos in the works now, so be on the look out for those!!! Again, thanks so much!!!

  • Great songs - nice visuals - some real gems in there - Thank you

  • Your welcome, that was part of my reason for making this video!!! Glad you enjoyed this. Have you seen my other Motown video yet? And there's more Motown to come!!!

  • whats the name of the song in the intro??

  • SoulSax by Candy Dulfer.

  • Wow, nice songs! Great to listen to songs that I haven't even listened to before!

  • And by artists we're familiar with too!!! Glad you enjoyed this!!!

  • How do you spell "Stevie Wonder" backwards?

  • Eivets Rednow!!! LOL That was a pretty good instrumental jazz album Stevie did back in '68!!! He's coming out with something new on the Hidden Beach label, the one Jill Scott records for!!!

  • THANK YOU! You are dong a great service for the Motown fans and the future Motown fans. My daughter has become a Motown fan because of hearing some of these songs recorded by others. Keep up the good work!+

  • Well thank you so much for your kind words!!! I'm so glad your daughter is starting to have good taste in music at a young age!!! I've got a few more Motown related vids coming soon, so I hope you get to catch them!!!

  • Oh, and did I tell you about the Singing Machine's "Motown Master Recordings-Original Artist Karaoke"? Go to the Singing Machine's website and check it out! This series has the karaoke versions of the original Motown hits from way back when with multiplex and instrumental, so you can sing along to the actual Motown "Hitsville USA" hits of that era!

  • Yes you did mention them, and I had them all when they first came out!!! And yes, Stevie recorded "All I Do" in 1980, but Tammi recorded the ORIGINAL version first way back in 1966, but it went unreleased for some reason until 2002 on a compilation of unreleased Motown gems, it's really worth seeking out dude!!!

  • You've really come up with some Motown gems here! I enjoyed them and liked them! Great Job! Thanks for telling me about this! Did you check out any of my Motown "covers"?

  • Thanks so much, I knew you would enjoy this!!! And yes I have, you do a great job dude!!!

  • Great video Kev. Reflections by The Four Tops is the only song I remember. But all the songs sounded great. I loved the two Stevie Wonder songs. He is my favorite singer of all time.,

  • No wonder we're such good friends, we both love Stevie!!! LOL Glad you enjoyed this one, I loved making this!!!

  • LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLoved it .But when r u going to do something on British Artist????

  • Hey dude, I'm so glad you enjoyed this!!! Now, the only Britsih artst I really know & love is Dusty Springfield!!! I would love to do a vid on British music, but I'm not very knowledgable on that!!!

  • The Stones, Manfred Man, The Beatles, The Hermits & ???

  • That's a good idea, I just might do something like that!!!

  • I enjoyed this some of the songs I've heard before especially the temptations and marvin since my mom is a die hard fan of both. I also liked the tammi terrell song it should've been released when she recorded it.

  • Oh that's so cool!!! These really are great songs, and your mom has great musical taste!!! I'm still gagging that Motown didn't release that track, that could have been the big solo hit Tammi was looking for!!!

  • BTW...I'm so surprised I knew some of these songs! My mom is a Motown aficionado! I grew up listening to sooooooooo much Motown!

  • Really? I'm curious to know which ones you know!!! That's great though, please show this to moms dude!!!

  • I was not expecting nakedness @ :18!!!

BTW...YOU DO IT WITH THIS VIDEO WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE!!! I began to type my favorites and realized I was typing every song! LOL! Great job!

  • LOL you such a mess dude, but yes, you know I had to dig in the crates for this vid!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and FINALLY got to it!!! LOL

  • I LOVE motown classics, I wish I knew more artists though :(

  • That's cool, but this is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg!!! LOL So many people recorded for Motown, it's amazing just how many did!!! Glad you enjoyed this dude!!!

  • Amazing!!!!!!

  • HEYYYYY, thanks dude, I knew you would like this!!!

  • Wow! I really enjoyed this! Some of these songs I knew because like you said, I have CD collections of The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and they have those songs on there that hadn't made the charts, etc. But a LOT of these I hadn't heard! Thanks, bro!

One more thing...that Tammi Terrell song, "All I Do," now how many of us thought that was a Stevie Wonder original??? Wow! Please get us a part 2 to this! I learn something new everyday!

  • Yes, when I first heard that Tammi song, I GAGGED!!! I couldn't believe Motown shelved that track!!! But yes, I'm so glad you enjoyed this, and there will be more Motown to come from me!!!

  • Something must be wrong with YT or they removed this vid. I keep getting a black screen that says, "Please Try Again Later." Hope this isn't another Warner Music issue.

  • No, WMG doesn't own Motown, it's Universal. But this video is fine, you might have to keep refreshing the page. That's been happening to me alot with other vids, so it's not just you. Keep trying, I wanna know what you think about the music here!!!

  • HAPPY 50th MOTOWN

Motown played such an important role in the racial integration of popular music. As it was the first record label owned by an African American to primarily feature African-American artists who achieved astounding crossover success. I do wish more young people who try to make music learn our history or legacy Thruthealcove, I do so appreciated your posts

  • Thanks so much Bryan, I just hope that I'm doing my part to keep Motown illustrious story alive!!!

  • I have never heard them like this. Not old school, but I can get into it.

  • Yes Hez, this is Classic Soul, not exactly old school!!! Glad you liked it dude!!!

  • Hmmm, we'll see just how well you KNOW Stevie then!!! LOL

  • See now I'm mad at you because I gotta spend all my little bit of money trying to get all these songs on my iPod. ;) Another great video educating us all on GOOD music!

  • I don't have the time to read all the replys but I do have one for ya, and here it goes, Tammi Terrell of the famed duets with marvin, recorded "All I DO ( Is think About You) the cut from stevie's Hotter than July outing. she recorded it first, its on a celler full of motown....CD

  • That's where I got the song from, I have all 3 Cellarful CDs!!! When I first heard her version, my jaw DROPPED!!! I couldn't believe Motown shelved that!!!

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVE this video...definitely on the favorites. You already know Im a fan of good music that isn't well know or popular. this video reminds me of riding to my Gramda's house..the only radio stations that you can get sometimes are the "oldies" on those small roads..I didn't know that the four tops recorded "reflections"..I've been educated. Great video Kev!!!

  • Hey dude, I knew you would get into this one, and did Tammi's version of "All I Do" give you LIFE??? LOL

  • Dude, I love it!!! you know sooo much about music. I need to take your class Professor Alcove!! Where do you teach?..I'll be a straight "A" student..I promise!
