I truly believe that Pääjärvi will succeed in the NHL, I hope he is true loyal player to the national team, not as the rest of the swedish stars who blames it all on''injuries'' every world championship. Sweden needs more stars in the world championships.
I think he's so called "suomenruotsalainen", I don't know how it should be translated, but it means like a person who's other parent is Swedish who have moved to Finland and the other is just Finnish... :D See, Pääjärvi means "main-lake" in Finnish.
With guys like Hemsky, Penner, Gagner, Brule and Cogliano all ready in the Oilers line up and guys like MPS, Eberle, Hall or Seguin coming up, the Oilers wont be bad for that long. Im not ready to say MPS is the next Forsberg, thats to much pressure, but I hope he is good.
@mikelacoste76 Yeah he did, but after scoring 18 goals in his first 2 seasons and with the speed he has, if he is put in the right situation I could see him scoring 20 - 25 goals and 50 points. I hope they don't give up on him, and I see him having a much better year in 2010-11.

First of all I hate when people comment on how regular players like this kid will be the next Forsberg wait and see instead of putting high expectations on a guy that has yet to play a nhl game and Sam Gagner fails epic along with the Oilers them selves 06 was a fluke
Not really a fluke, look at the moves made towards the trade deadline - they had a pretty good line up and if they had that line up all year they would have finished MUCH higher then 8th over all.
You can call it a fluke but they also beat great teams like Detroit, San Jose, Anaheim.
@DallasH717 clearly, you haven't seen him play and the potential he has. He was dominant at the World Juniors w/ 10pts in 6gms. In the SEL this past season, he almost doubled his goals, assists and point totals in 1 less game. It shows you the kind of potential he has and the potential he will have in the NHL. Many have compared him to the likes of Peter Forsberg, Mats Sundin and Markus Naslund.
@OilersSniper17 You're an idiot, do you have any idea how rare 50 goal scorers 100 point players are? DallasH is 100% right maybe a PPG player. And I LOVE MPS.
@OvechkinCCM Clearly you're the idiot. you obviously haven't seen him play and i can tell that you don't watch hockey. yes, there are rare 50 goal scorers but there are lots of 100 point players. Im not sayin hes gonna be a regular 50 goal scorer. but he has the potential to reach it.
@OilersSniper17 No he's not like Peter Forsberg, his playing style is more like Maxim Afinogenov, watch Max first then Paajarvi, they are almost the same :D
please do some research first. he played in the swedish elite league playing against men, with limited ice time. point totals mean so little when you have no clue how to use them. go look at his world juniors stats, 7 points in 6 games, as the youngest player ever to play for team sweden at the world juniors.
@tiptopluongo Well theres some things i dont understand when it comes to picks. Like Toni Rajala, he was amazing in the under 18 WC breaking Overchkins record for points and when he played in WHL he did over a point per game in Wheat Kings. He got drafted in 4th round?
@tiptopluongo Yep thatsright. Although the level of swedish elite leagueisnt nearly as high as like Finnish elite league and KHL. So i dont knowwhy theresso many players picked from there.
@Sephirot1994 Haha youre the dumb fuck here. Teams from Sm-liiga always wins Elitseriens best teams and finnish players that go to Elitserien are top players in the league. Idiot.
@Sephirot1994 No tiiän kuule lätkästä sen verran et tiiän mistä puhun kyllä. Oon syntyn Suomes mut asun Bostonis, joten en kato asiaa jotenki sinivalkosin lasein. Sehän on vaa fakta et Sm-Liigan parhaat joukkuuet voittaa joka kerta Ruotsin parhaat joukkueet European Trophyssa ja Champions Hockey Leaguessaki voitti. Ni vaikee väittää et Ruotsin liiga ois parempi jos mun mielest yksinkertaisesti Sm-liigas on paremmat joukkueet. Basic 101.
only 10th? They said he could go as number 4. Anyways. GREAT talent. He reminds me alot of Forsberg. If he can get a little bit bigger, and practice his shot. I think this guy has the most potential of all the guys.
i honestly couldnt believe edmoton got svenny at 10. give him a year, 2 at most in sweden and when he comes to the NHL hes going to be a very dangerous player. maybe even then next forsberg
ahaha I loved the Burke-Murray slap n tickle. Steal for the Oilers. Maguire and co. are idiots saying Paajarvi-Svensson was projected low top 10. He was projected as high as 3rd on occasion and it was only one sub-par tournament that dropped him. Size, speed and touch. Him and Omark will be deadly in the future.
He is the sleeper of the draft. Hes the fastest forward there. Super skilled. Will excel in the new nhl. A long term project.
However, he really lacks finish, and grit.
Hes big, but shys away from all physical play. He hates to be hit. A super skilled plyaer, but the oilers better surround him with tough guys cuz this kid is all skill no will. Best pick available at tenth though. If he works on his finish he could challenge the higher forwards in points. But he wont in goals.
Im not knocking him. He will be a great offensive speedster and player. Goalscorer? Impact player? 2 way reliable? Those are all big iffs. Lacks finish. Lacks any grit. Horrible defensively.
Most swedes are good defensively. Lacks grit? that guy drives hard to the net all the time. He just might not be good in the corners. But just let him develop. Edmonton should not rush him. I'm also worried about his finishing skills. I think he is playing in the world juniors this year, I'm expecting him to finish in atleast top 5 in points.
