I'd go a step further. In high level volleyball, the offense starts with the middle. If you can't establish an effective middle attack, you're in big trouble.
the most under appreciated player on volleyball is the libero... they get no credit for good passes and they get blamed on for not covering ROOFED HITTERS... -.-
I once took a ball directly to the face from a serve.. after my coach slapped me twice in time out and my eyes were watering and I couldn't see shit :D
@gatewaydrugs1 you have obviously never played middle because they are the ones that need to have the best footwork on their blocks. they need to cover the entire front row and cover a lot of ground quickly. i am not denying that they tend to not be as good at passing or ball handling, but to say they are the worst player on the court is pushing it. and no, i am not a middle
I know that they have to cover a lot of ground on blocks. But middle players are never as technically skilled as other players, and their role is very limited. Plus, the setter needs the best footwork on the team.
And since you mentioned it, I played middle for my high school team (solely because I was the tallest on the team), so I know what it takes. But I played OH for my club team, which was much much more fun.
Well I see your point, but middles do a lot more than most people realize. On a lot of big kills you see on youtube, the only reason that the hitter got such an open swing is because the middle distracted the blockers and it is very difficult to run an offense without decent middles. Just trying to stick up for the middles, they are always under appreciated.
That's true enough, they do a lot of things that people don't notice. Lol at least someone is sticking up for them ... Although I wouldn't stick up for the guy in this video
@AJ192837 thanks man, we don't get enough credit. 90% of the time power hitters get that big kill is because we ran great and stuck the middle blocker. Plus, we have to block every single hit the offense throws at us. whoever says middle is easy, try playing one rotation in front court. you'll never want to play middle again
@AJ192837 I play outside, though i have subbed for middle, and while they do do alot of work, in my opinion, its mostly athletic work, not really blocking technique, but blockings the only thing im good at, so i guess my opinion really means nothing
@AJ192837 I feel you man, I'm not a good passer on the team, and I can grab rim so my coach made me middle. My team gets mad at me when I don't block a swing. If anyone here doesn't still know, it's a pretty hard thing to do because you're responsible to block the hitter most if not all of the time. You get tired pretty easily running back and forth and front and back when transitioning from Defense/Offense
