hank sure was and is the best musician that ever lived we will never see his like again what a talent his voice is just amazing and now weve got the williams dynisty
This is my favorite song by Hank, or is my favorite "Never Again Will I knock On Your Door" or is it "Mansion On the Hill", or is........, I give up, all of his sad songs are my favorite! Hank's music brought me so much joy. I don't remember which of his songs I first heard back in the 40s. It might have been "Never Again" or "Last Night I Heard You Crying In Your Sleep" but from that moment I was hooked for life.
this song brings back so many memories of mom and dad singing, entertaining visitors in our home...and they would sing this song in the Cree language as well...one of my all time favorites! Thank you Hank Williams!
My dad( in Indian summer) would sit on the porch playing harmonica and I would .Wonderful childhood memories , my dad has been dead for 4 years and was a deadringer for Johnny Cash when JC was younger.Come to think of it he still kinda resembled him when he got older too.
Father abandoned mom with 5 kids in 1950. She was left alone to raise and feed us on a $ 140.00 per month welfare check. I recall the rent for the house we lived in was $ 75.00 per month then. That didn't leave her much. I slept on a mattress on the basement floor next to the huge oil furnace those days and I could her right above me, where her bedroom was, play this song over and over. I also remember her crying while the song played.I feel emotional just thinking about those days.God Bless Mom
i dont know how old you guys are that are putting positive comments up about this great artist...but i thank god that people like you people keep his music alive.....i like to think that there are young people...a new generation that like what he did...and in doing so....you help carry on the country tradtion....
I thought Porter Wagoner had a great rendition of this one as well. And according to the credits on the album he included this song on ( Confessions of a Broken Man), Hank is credited with writing this song.
@MrSrh49 hE DIDN'T WRITE THIS, HANK ON RARE OCCASION DID BORROW FROM OTHER WRITERS.... I BELIEVE THIS IS A LEON PAYNE SONG, SAME WRITER AS THEY'LL NEVER TAKE HER LOVE FROM ME....
This man was truly in touch with human nature and the true things that mattered and occurred in life. Modern Music will never have these tangible lyrics...
Hanks voice, drifting cowboys, the songs! Man, they all played a big part in hanks success. I still have yet to hear anyone do a hank song better than hank himself.
So true whiteavenger33, NO ONE CAN EQUAL HANK, there are some great covers, like by Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings & Bocephus, but they all fall short of the KING of COUNTRY MUSIC's versions, yes, HANK WILLIAMS, SR.!!!

I can't imagine the pain Hank felt when He wrote down the words to this song.
To bad todays country music doesn't get it. Country music should come from the heart just like Hank wrote it.

@douglaswsandy Hank did indeed write this. Leon Payne wrote The Lost Highway. Whoever wrote the song Hank made it a Hank Williams song.
