While it is certainly not inconceivable to have a woman as Vice President, there has not been one to date. Furthermore, "he" and the dative form "him" have been considered as gender neutral pronouns up until recently. "They" and "them" have become common neutral terms but are still not completely accepted and sound awkward to many still.
