you guys know this entire game is 18mb? I've seen 2D homebrew games with bad chiptunes and mspaint ish graphics that are larger than that. How did they fit such an amazing game in only 18mb?!
- the enemies that spawn at 0:40 must be killed very quickly, or they will not spawn 6 times. I heard he practiced some ridiculous 80 hours a week (or was it month?), to get this down.
A few things to appreciate about this game and this performance:
-You get bonus points for chaining 3 kills of white or dark in a row. He never breaks a chain, and thus maintains maximum bonus points per kill. In the first minute, watch for parts where he deliberately does not kill units to maintain this chain.
-I believe the boss at 2:10 is on a timer, and is "defeated" at the end of it. Rather than wait for the end of the timer or kill it quickly, he kills it with 2 seconds left.
The player of this Ikaruga DVD in hard mode should be the toughest player in the world. His nickname is Yusemi SWY. He created loads of " miracles " in many bullet hell STGs, such as Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu, Mushihimesama, Mushihimesama Futari, Ketsui, and Guwange. Really amazing.
Wow. The NAOMI version must have a lot more slowdown than the Dreamcast. Using the music as a gauge, I estimate he slowed the game down by about 30 seconds compared to the Gamecube version.
The game is supposed to run at 60 fps, but too many explosions and bullets and missiles strain the processor and slow down the play, but not the music. You can see the slowdown when the chougenbou explode. Tageri's timer would have hit zero by 3:40 if the framerate never dropped. SWY used it to his advantage. He shoots missiles to add to the slowdown.
To my knowledge, what he did has never been done on the Gamecube. I wonder if the programmers ever intended it to be possible.
completing this game is not so hard to shmup players , completing this game with full or high level chaining is extremely difficult and takes a shit load of mastering thats where the real ikaruga players come into play .
Ikaruga is a masterpiece of a game. You don't see games like this come along this often. I think that every gamer should play this game at some point in their lives. It certainly is a treat even if you don't beat, just experiencing it is enough to appreciate it's glory. This on one of my personal favorite games of all time. Everyone please play this game, you'll be doing yourself a favor.

The Naomi version is gamewise identical to the Dreamcast version.

I love Ikaruga - insanely difficult but so rewarding! I fondly remember the day I got to level 5... Shame it was only on easy!
I take my hat off to those who can complete this game, you are master gamers, every one!
What a joy to watch and ...appreciate! Thanks for uploading!

The only thing missing in my opinion are just more levels and more clearification of the story (Cause I can't really understand it)
