@iluvgreatdanes17 Thank You for that comment, I had one before and he lived for 6 years and 6 days, we spent over 7 thousand dollars trying to save his life, but had to make that dreaded decision to let him go. He was my best friend ,and I will never get over him ever! It's been a few years now and I still think about him Every single day. Truly "The Heart Break Breed" ...
@2011CJM A Great Danes average life span is about 8 years. I did see one that was 14 years old, but this is very rare. We had to put ours down at 6 years old. The main reason for their short life span, is their heart only grows to a medium sized dog, therefore putting a great deal more stress on this giant breed. So you don't want to over exercise them. But at any age , this breed "Will Break Your Heart" when it is time to leave this world.
@jmvideo7 Beauiful dog! I have a year old Great Dane... my first one. I can't imagine not having a Dane now, though I'm already dreading the day it's time to say goodbye.
@jmvideo7 I tear up just thinking about loosing my Dane sometime in the future. He is only two years old, so I have lots more time with him, but still.
@fjellklatrer I know exactly how you feel, I lost my first one ("GOLIATH") a few years back and think about him every single day! We spent thousands of dollars trying to save him, but he only got worse, until we had to make that dreaded decision . At 6 years and 6 days he left my world with Dignity and Grace. I cried like a baby for a very long time and to this day I still shed a tear when I dwell on him too long. We now have Marty, our fawn Great Dane , he will be 4 in December. Enjoy them !
dogs have a way of capturing us emotionally during and well after their lifetimes. I lost my first dog when I was 19, got him when I was 4. The whole beginning of my life is filled with memories of my dog and I just recently was lucky enough to now own a beautiful Shar Pei. As soon as I buy a home it is a great aspiration of mine to own a Dane. They're really just amazing creatures. Now if we can just figure out how to lengthen their lifespan we'll be set!
What a beautiful dog.Ive always wanted a Great Dane, but I'm going to wait til my kids all leave home so I can afford it! I do wonder if they are hard to train and hard to toilet train, imagine the size of those puddles on the carpet!!
@Cougarmummy Thank You for that nice comment. I have wanted a Great Dane for 25 years before I was surprised by my wife with my first Great Dane on Christmas Eve that also happens to fall on my birthday. He was one of the biggest thrills of my life. I remember that exact second that I saw him I thought, OMG, where were you , as if he had been missing for a very long time. and he kind of gave me that same look. He was 11 weeks young. The best friend I ever had, "Goliath" was his name. My budioooo
@mazomasha Thank You for your beautiful comment, I hope one day you do get one, You will find that in time he/she will be the best companion and friend you will ever have. Thanks Again ....
He would "look" better with his ears cropped in my opinion, and a little more weight so u can't see his hip bones. My old fawn Bigfoot was lean mussel mass too, he was hard to keep weight on. My harlequin and black ones eat so much better. I kno their all different. But great Danes r awesome!
@brutusntiny Hi, Thank you for your comment. Marty has a great appetite, as a matter of fact the first thing he wants to do after he is done eating is eat again. I would like to have him put on another 8-10 pounds but it seems like he burns it up fast. I remember my first Great Dane, "Goliath", and I did have his ears cropped, but I also remember how much discomfort he was in so, I decided to keep Him whole just the way God gave him to me. Long, soft , velvety ears are really nice too. Thanks
@laddo01 Thanks for the comment, Only a Great Dane Owner would know that ! Don't get me wrong, I loved all my pups, and miss them so much, but When it's time for Your Dane to leave this world, They take your heart with them period. Wish him/her a long Healthy Life.
My mom has two danes, her first two, and they're only 1 1/2 and 2 1/2, but I dread the times when we have to say goodbye.
