  • Love this song!

  • Whaaaaaaaaat dooooooooooeeeeeeeesss aaaaaaaa yellllllllllllllllow ligggggggghhhhhhht meannnnnnnnnnnn??

  • Aw such sweet memories of watching this show with my Dad when I was a kid - I never really got it (too young) but I loved the music and I loved Christopher Lloyd as Rev Jim

  • ......Flashback......RevJim: I remember one time back in the 60's I married 2 people... nude in Central Park!"

Alex: "Jim you're saying you married 2 people in Central Park...and they were in the NUDE?"

Rev.Jim: "Hell no Alex...I was in the nude!"

  • @Shamagogue Lol, yea..Jim said he was gonna marry two people nude in Central Park. They were shocked and he clarified that he meant HE was in the nude because they called off the nude wedding but nobody told him lol!

  • Loved this show =-)

  • This is a pretty good tribute.

  • one of the best tv show and cast ever

  • i love the show Taxi and the Song is great to and RIP Jeff Conaway Octomber 5, 1950 May 27 , 2011

  • i couldn't stand the show but loved the theme song

  • @tallulah1961 dito

  • RIP Jeff Conway

  • I definitely place this on my Top 10 TV Theme Songs list.

  • i like this song

  • R.I.P. Jeff Conaway

  • This tune really evokes thoughts of NYC streets. Great show, great theme.

  • Marilu Henner is responsable for atleast half my erections while growing up !

  • sweetest tv show theme ever.....right up there with Hill Street Blues

  • Did Quincy Jones produce this song?

  • @88Keyz101 Bob James ma dude.

  • I liked the red-haired girl best! I could say more, but I'm getting the curse of the unreadable entries. If I had a robot, I wouldn't waste his energy on this place for sure! Lol, but being a human I got no choice but to say what I think. ;)

  • So pretty. So, so pretty. The flute and Fender Rhodes evoke a beautiful and world-weary feeling that comes from a very deep and soulful place. To the persons who wrote and performed this music, I am grateful.

  • Marilu Henner was so hot!!!!!

  • @65jackstraw95 Was that the guy out of Back to the future. just kıddıng

  • this is my all time favorate show

  • GOOD SONG

  • all these old scenes / characters / styles scare the crap outta me!

  • onlyusemeblade!

  • dope shit

  • I feel like I should be walking down a rode during the spring, fall, summer or even winter and just thinking. :)

  • souls of mischief - cab fare

  • A TV show that knew viewers had an IQ - so we had an IQ. Nowadays they assume you are dumb - so you act dumb!

  • @HardWarUK sad, and very true. :(

  • This theme is like that bittersweet Sesame Street segment, the one that always made you cry as a kid.

  • I donl't know if they were trying to turn me off from teh BIG CITY but this song would come on and I thought I was depressed..was it this song..or was I depressed.

  • what is the emotion this song brings up? it's not really sadness... kind of like "here you are living your life for better or worse" man I love this tune and the show or course!

  • @uneedtherapy42 man you hit it right on the nose... it takes you back to when times were better in the world

  • @uneedtherapy42 for me, it kinda conjures up the mood of being young and innocent, then that innocence vanishes with disillusion and maturity. kinda like the original intro for the show. you're taking a trip, possibly going from small town to big city, where you get street-wise.

  • can you upload some Taxi episodes of the Nick at Nite reruns?

  • I really love this song. i can just imagine just mellowing out to this while riding in a taxi as i enjoy looking out at the view of the city as i drive by. just like in the intro. plus, the song is named after me. yeah, i can totally relate to this song, which is why this is my favorite television theme song of all time.

  • what a bunch of ugly cunts

  • fuck the ins and outs of it ..fucking good days, fucking brilliant series

  • This makes me think of Ireland, and I've never been to Ireland.

Oh, to see the Irish countryside, my heart bleeds without feeling your soil beneath my feet.

  • @Renitamac you make my pecker stiff

  • @Renitamac Well they showed this show here in Ireland in the 1980s....ah to be 8 again, nearly falling asleep on the sofa with the closing credits of Taxi in my ears. Up to bed then school in the morning

  • Oh souls of mischief

  • Why does the piano sound out of tune here?

  • The BEST TV theme music in the history of the universe

    G'nite Mr Walters!

    Uh-Uhh!

  • like buttah

  • Back when TV was really good. Reality Shows suck balls....

  • there was around theme to taxi. i;m still trying to find that version.

  • Goodnight Mr. Walters!

  • @BradTheProducer ."...grumble, grumble!"

  • The cast was an unbelievable collection of talent

  • Who cares about a show like taxi this is back when tony danza was a lil street before he completely sold out to the man lol

  • Everybody! Search YouTube for "Bob James Pure Imagination"

Bob James is the composer of the theme from Taxi.

  • I'd like to listen to this song whilst motorboating the bountiful milky-white breast of a 25 year old Marilu Henner.

  • breasts rather...

  • Carol Kane was cute!

  • To young to remember the show, but always remembered the theme song... I love it, brings back memories... very relaxing!!!!

  • I remember the episode when Louie De Palma climbs down from his "cage" for the first time. I was stunned by the reality then laughed my ass off!

  • Taxi is performed in front of a live stadium audience.

  • @jakemsf Studio. If you were trying to be funny, try again.

  • @Hoopermazing

    Taaaaxxxxiiiiii for Barthez

  • I can just hear this replay back to back by itself

  • I was in LOVE with Marilu Henner back in the day - Thanks for the post...

  • @er6789er Me too. She was THE reason I watched Taxi

  • I always just loved the melody beautiful!!!

  • really talented cast marilu henner oh my god one look at her made me unzip my trousers.

  • music and tv. Just not the same anymore. So sad.

  • ok...not 2 critize but WHERE were the Judd pix?

Judd was THE main character of Taxi.

    Alex Reger = Taxi.

  • TV is not as good today

  • i wish i could find this on tv again. one of the best tv shows back then to me

  • This was such a funny show. It helps that it did not run too long. The ones that do tend to get silly, and then the effort to make a giant "series finale" just fizzles out fast, because no show can ever live up to all the expectations.

  • Short 'n' Sweet......... Nuff said....

  • i hear this song...

and its like,.. ive come home!

    seeyah around all!

    RIDER

  • U know wot, I usd 2 B ritualistic about watchn Taxi evry aftrnoon,. Id never miss it, Sat there, feetup wiv bru+A smoke, +as soon as tune startd, Id B like swayin, eyes shut, in A state of pure bliss! +rest of day id float round wiv an inner warmth that nothin cud touch! +1day I got my bru+smoke+sat2watch it, +A voice 'casually'announced it was replaced by some really shitty sitcom! Its took me A long time2come2terms wiv the events of that day, (2cut it short, I LUV TAXI!) from...RIDER
  • soccer am

  • Marilu Henner - hot as hell!

  • Louie de Palma and Jim Ignatowski

    4ever

  • You've got to love the Fender Rhodes piano.

Really reminds me of the 70's and 80's in a good way.

  • great show and theme.

  • this is such a sweet melody*

  • @gmholt2008 check out cab fare by souls of mischief if u like this

  • It's really sad that just a year after Taxi ended, Andy Kaufman died.

  • This tune was written and performed by Bob James. I saw him and Alexander Zonjic perform this live in Traverse City MI. Excellent! And Marilu Henner still looks hot.

  • never got in to this show but really like the theme song

  • It was good but it never met it's potential

  • I was just watching NUMB3RS and at the end of the episode, where Judd Hirsch and Rob Morrow were watching TV just as the closing credits rolled, you could clearly hear the theme to Taxi coming from the TV -- LOL!! He's come full-circle!

  • Love this show, watched from my freshman to senior in high school. Thought it was ahead of its time in comedy. Preferred it over "Three's company" actually.

  • Marilu Henner was such a babe on this show!

  • I could dance to that. And i cant dance to much... Funky as hell

  • record yourself on video dancing to the song lol

  • Wow, I didn't know the sample from one of my all time favourite songs was from a TV show!

Souls of Mischief - Cab Fare

  • WEN I GET PISSED. THIS SONG HELPS ME

  • I loved Taxi. I wish it was still on in reruns. God, how I miss the days when TV Land was a good channel.

  • this could b at least 5 min

  • The best song.

  • the theme is one of my favs cause it mellows you out

  • @lvanciel yeah but have u ever herd it on weed lol

  • @lvanciel Can not agree with you more! I put this one every one of my "mellow out " mixes! =)

  • My favorite scene was Jim realizing he didn't get the vacuum job.

  • My favorite from the show: "What does a yellow light mean?" "Go slower!" Pause. "What. Does. A Yellow. Light. Mean?"

  • Id love a modern movie remake. Maybe alex o loughlin for latka and liev shrieber for alex.

  • Nostalgically delicious.

  • Yes. I was put on hold while calling my insurance, and the hold music was "Angela", which brought me to this page. What a great TV show!

  • I love how back in the day writers used to take ordinary situations and use extraordinary characters to make quality television...nowadays every show has to involve someone being a celbrity or whatnot because the characters themselves are not as funny...i miss 70s and 80s tv(and i was born in the 90s lol)

  • @ninetiesbaby10 we're not allowed to witness diversity anymore it's all about social conditioning, everything's a joke nothing's funny, more and more shallow, less and less commentary.

  • @ninetiesbaby10 i hear ya,i was born in the 1980s and feel the same

  • @ninetiesbaby10 ik! lol, i feel the same way. wen my friends and i get together we usually watch smthng like Taxi, os Soap, WKRP. i thnk it says smthng wen those shows r still being watched today instead of the shows they have on now

  • @behindXblueXeyez lol...my favorites are All in the Family(all ALL of its spinoffs), Welcome Back Kotter, Taxi, The Golden Girls, Chico and the man, the Facts of Life, and Threes Company...all of them had mosty ordinary characters doing quirky crazy things

  • @ninetiesbaby10 CHEERIO MY FRIEND....CHEERIO!

  • @DartsRme312 :)

  • @ninetiesbaby10

I agree with you ninetiesbaby. I was born in the 60's and I don't watch much on tv these days. I miss the old tv shows of the 70's and 80's too.

  • @ninetiesbaby10 You are so right. Every character in this sitcom was explored in depth. Although a comedy, this show had serious subplots woven through each episode...

... From my recollection, this was one of the first comedy series using film stock, not video taped which made the story lines more powerful.

  • @ninetiesbaby10 you are SO right... TV today should be banned, I can only hope people open their minds and realize how good things used to be, reality television is so bad it makes me sick, no plot, no memorable characters, nothing

  • @ninetiesbaby10 Well said (from an 80s kid)

I can watch TV from the 60s to 90s without batting an eyelid, but give me anything my peers watch and I'll probably raise an eyebrow and vomit on the carpet.

  • @ninetiesbaby10 I was born in the nineties myself, and I totally concur! A lot of "popular" culture is shaping our music, film and mass media in very negative ways. We can only hope that true quality (i.e. Taxi, Cheers etc.) remain a part of the canon of TV for a long time to come. So glad that my mom brought me up on television from her time (=

  • @ninetiesbaby10 I feel the same way, although, I was born in the early 80s :)

  • MASH and Taxi -- awesome

  • AND!!!

    What about SOAP!

    Do U remember that! too?

    RIDER

  • My favorites were Jim and Louis. great show. This came on before MASH while we ate dinner.

  • gr8 show just got the second season on dvd im only 19 but i love this show :D

  • Cabbies "unsung heroes of the road" Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah... You aren't a cabbie here in Chicago are you?

  • yeah, you are right! I'm not. But do you know what the average cabbie endures??

Everything from religion to politics!! Why

don't you all just shut up, & let us get you

from point A to point B?

  • or anywhere, you mean. :P

no offence meant, cabdriver. or not much, anyway.

  • seriously I used to drive a cab in NYC, and I avoided probably 4 accidents a week just by paying attention to people that weren't. Some scared the heck out of the passengers, lol.

  • The best!

  • they do not make shows like this anymore...very sad

  • Take it from a REAL cabbie, this rocks!! We are unsung heroes of the highways.

We prevent deaths, via DUI or otherwise.

Love this show!!! Tip us good!!!

  • NO!

  • @1cabdrvr1

Only if you don't take the extra long route so you can run up the meter. I bet you guys love those out-of-towners.

  • SEASON 4 coming SEPT 22 2009!!!!!!!

  • lol trhis show is like 50 yrs old nice try

  • awesome show, awesome cast it`s just AWESOME!

  • Loved the show, love the song, LOVE BOB JAMES MUSIC!!! i have 3 copies of this record. One of them used to be my mom's but now it's mine! lol no need for 3 copies i know, but what am i gonna do throw one away?............. No way! : ) I was a kid watching this show in 78, but i'm grown now and will still watch this show. Even if iv'e seen the same episode 250 times since 1978!!!! Lol

  • we in england luved taxi we think it was one of the best tv shows from the states thanks a million.for agreat tv comedy show.

  • Yep... my grandpa Mike Brown is Marilu Henner's new spouse! They remarried not to long ago! So I'm just cruising the web watching my step grandma on Taxi since I've never really seen her show!

  • Stop being A "BELMER FUDGE"!

  • i saw this show a couple of times a few years back it's weird how music can make you think of thing's you've never seen in your life. this is one of few that make me do that, good one.

  • I just love to wax nostalgic.

  • tweet- cab ride :)

  • i heard this and got the biggest lump in my throat, thinking back to when i was 6 or 7 and my family were all in the house safe and were going to live forever. now im in my late 30s the same age as my parents back then, and they dont live forever. thank you for the happy memories x

  • Thank you for those words.

  • check out cab fare by souls of mischief

  • that song is dope

  • Comment removed

  • i used to hate this show cos it came on right after he man which meant my afterschool cartoons were over and the day was pretty much over. as an adult i saw this show when it came on at like 3 am and actually liked it.

  • boy this really brings back a lot of memories from my childhood, i used to love this track, i still do, thanks for the post.

  • Bob James was a seriously underrated musician.

  • it was cool when they got some of the cast back together for scenes in Man in the Moon.

of course my favourite taxi driver is Travis Bickle

  • I still miss Andy. X

  • so nostalgic it hurts. used to be one of my parents favorite shows. didnt get to watch many episodes because i was young and it aired past my bedtime. but i remember lying in bed and hearing my pops whistle along with the theme song. its been a few years since his passing and hearing this song again hits deep. thank you

  • Wow! Your comment touched me. The"Past your bedtime" means so much about your parents and the care that they provided for you, in an age where some kids have no "bedtime". My Mom passed away 4 months ago and Taxi was one of her favorite TV shows . I was older and no longer living at home so I didn't watch it with my Mom and Dad. I long for a time machine so that I could go back to those precious days.

  • Ahhh, what wonderful memories friend. I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Your words are very touching as well. We must cherish the moment, alas, as memories they will quickly be.

    God bless!

  • almost steely dan-esque. the ability to write proper arrangements is so lacking in music these days.

  • For another Steely Dan-esque theme, check out the opening theme to the sitcom "Alice".

I have to say though, I never liked the version of the Taxi theme that was released on record. It didn't have the same funky bite as the TV version.

  • awesome show....awesome theme.... feels nostalgic as I was a kid then.

Much better comedy than most of today's IMHO (then again I don't even have a TV)

  • Man does this show bring back great memories. Far cry from the shit they show these days

  • the best theme tune ever!!! and one of the greatest sitcoms. ever!! ah marilu henner my heart just melts every time i see her.

  • My thoughts exactly! :D

  • Kaufman made that show!!!

  • Really enjoyed this video...brought back fond memories...thanks for your time and effort.

  • i used to touch myself looking at marilu henner

  • thanks brad for that touching and ooooh conventional confession

  • I remember watching this on Nick at Night when I was kid, good show.

  • very very nice!

  • One of the two BEST television theme songs. The other being The Rockford Files.
