I bought a 1949 in 1965 and the only problem i had with it was the gas filter was not mounted straight up and down and gave me problems driving up hill until I figured out what the problem was. I was the first car I ever owned and I still have fond memories of it.
One thing which always impressed me was how the speedometer changed colors at night. It was green until 50mph when it would turn yellow. Above 65 the speedo; numerals and needle would turn red to let you know you were going fast.
@KlankOntwerp Actually for the first half of the 1949 model year all Chrysler Corp. cars used the 1948 bodies and were known as first seriew 49's. The true or econd series 1949 models did not come out until the start of 1949
@KlankOntwerp even a lot of Chrysler lovers are not aware of that...nor are alot of Buick lovers aware that the 1949 Buick Special used the 1948 body because for whatever reason Buick waited to to bring out the new Special when the freshened up the 1949 bodies for 1950 and that is why less than 20,000 1949 Specials were made...
@iamproudtobeajew It's ok, everyone has different taste in cars. There are many cars I would choose to purchase before this one, but for someone else it might be just what they're looking for. It's still a beautiful example of a classic Chrysler in very original condition.
@FatGuyWithAKatana I keep hearing people say that the new cars have to be designed a certain way because of stringent safety standards and because they have to contain more technology, but I think it's a cop out. There is still no excuse for such overall bland design. Very few cars seem to have soul to them anymore. They lack the style and also the driving experience. You know, the sound of a four barrel opening up, the rumble of a a cammed V8, and the mechanical clunk of an old manual gearbox.
One, such as myself, can learn a lot about classic cars, because you have a way of getting into all of the details without belaboring them. You move along quickly and keep it interesting--the artistic and sparkling subject matter doesn't hurt either! Great job, Jeff.
Beautiful car with a cavernous back seat. When you were driving your honey to the Bijou theatre, then on the way back, you could...well never mind.
