  • Hope to be here this August 21 on my birthday at the end of a successful NOBO!

  • What a wonderful hike! Great views!

  • @BruceMoosedotCom My brother lived in the shadow of the mountain for 25 years before I talked him into climbing it with me. Kind of blew his mind, that trip up big k.

  • Planning a trip to Maine next summer!! whoaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

  • absolutly amazing! nothing else like it :)

  • great video, great music, thank you!

  • this video is fabulous. really gives me a warm feeling and great memories.

    (AT thru hiker 2006)

  • @rebvesey Thank you. Yea 70 mph winds and zero visibility is rough. I bet the next time you all go will be much better. The view is awesome. I saw your Hampton Beach video, and had to smile. I spent 7 summers working there. It afforded me the opportunity to spend the rest of the year thru hiking the AT. I know that beach all to well.

  • This is such a beautiful video that really gives the full experience of climbing Katahdin. My husband and I climbed it in 2005 and this year I'll be taking my group Hot Mama Hikers (hotmamahikers.blogspot.com) there in a month and a half. I posted it to the hot mama hikers facebook page to give the group and our friends and family a sense of what it's like to climb. Thanks for sharing!

  • @7:09 That solidified my decision! Thank you for sharing and Congratulations on your Journey!

  • @4micaman I believe you won't be disappointed. It's a remote, and off the grid kind of place up there. The good news is that the staff that run the park are simply great. They understand that you are on a dead end road to a mountain few attempt to climb, and they are very helpful. Maine folk are a cut above. Get to the Gate early, as it is "first come first serve". Enjoy the journey.

  • Thanks so much for your message! I will be brave then, and try Katahdin the next time I have the opportunity. :) Can I share your video on our Trail Dames You-Tube channel? Thanks!!!

    Anna

  • @TrailDames Of Course, and thank you.

  • How long did it take? Round trip?

  • @Randomstlhero The Hunt Trail, which the AT follows to Katahdin's summit, is widely considered the easiest way to get up to the top of the mountain. It's a 10 mile round trip. Generally 4 hours to get up, an hour on the summit, and 3 hours to get back down.

  • @kookiemoose Ok thanks. Hope to be there this summer!!

  • Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. (And a little bit scary!! :) :) Was that as hard as it looked?! :) Thanks for the work you put into it.

  • @TrailDames Thank you. The climb is just a lot of up, and takes the bulk of a day to do. I see kids, and seniors climbing on the mountain every time I've been there. I think Katahdins remote location adds to some of it's mystery. It's a wonderful mountain, with a interesting history, along with a great view.

  • Great video. I'm going to climb that . Looks like a great experience.

  • Im so glad, Thoreau is living in America

  • Awesome, Awesome video. The shot of you guys on the peak overlooking that incredibly lush forested valley was just amazing. What an amazing place!

I don't know what you guys think but I hate seeing posted signs in the outdoors....it takes the "wild" out of wilderness to me.

  • @enjoythewildUSA Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it.

On signs; I never really paid much attention to them. I do know that in places like National Wilderness signs have to be made from certain kinds of species of wood particular to the surroundings. The same is probably true inadvertently to many of the AT signs outside of official wilderness. The blind guy that hiked it with his dog in 1990 read them with his hands. I tried it, very difficult : )

  • Great Video!!

  • Thanks for posting. It brought back memories.

  • @hallsonny Thank you, glad I had a camera on me that day!

  • Breathe taking.

  • @BaldEagle841 So glad you liked it, thanks!

  • I wonder if I had known where to look, could I have seen Katahdin from the top of Schoodic

  • @cisjohn2616 I bet, when Katahdin has snow, on a cold day, when the sunrise hits the summit, I bet you could see exactly where it was. I'm told it's possible otherwise, but it cant look like much from Schoodic.

  • Great job!

  • beautiful video!!! what is the name of the song you used? my favorite part was from 0:00 to 8:14

  • great video, Shows more about climbing the Big K than I've seen before!

  • great video, Shows more about clinming the Big K than I've seen before!

  • @trailangelmary Thank you Mary, I'm glad you like it!

  • Awesome ! Nice to see the other side of our great continent :o)

  • @Ggreenvideos We probably have more in common than we know, Mainer's, like folks from the Yukon have hard winters, and adapt well. We both have wood burning stoves, and deep freezers to store our food. And we both probably can't remember the first time we fired a gun. Greeting from the other side!

  • @kookiemoose You hit the nail rite on the head :o)I've seen -60C ;o) I haven't owned a gun in years, but I think the first time was when I was a pre-teen with a .22 single shot hunting grouse...hehe!

  • Wow. Everyone takes pictures at the top; this is the first time I've seen a great film of the hike itself. Amazing! Great editing, great music. Loved the POV shots and the shots of the Tablelands. Thanks for posting this wonderful short!

  • @JesterAT2000 Thanks Jester, It means a lot to hear a positive reaction from an actual thru hiker who sees the mountain as more than just a day hike. BTW I cant seem to get the MUSIC from Wizards of the PCT out of my head, and I fear beyond some sort of self inflicted head trauma I NEVER will : P

  • WOW, the views are awsome! How was the climb compared to the Whites in NH?

  • @FFEMTPMF I'd say the climb is comparable to the whites. The whites are more accessible I guess. There aren't a whole lot of other surrounding mtns in the park.

  • WOW, the views are awsome!

  • Such a beautiful place, loved the video these weathered mountains still have the ability to captivate what time of year would you recommend this hike?

  • @ihikearoundcom Actually during fall foliage would be ideal, which in this part of Maine usually comes around late september. Blackfly season (early/mid june to mid/late july). October 14th the mountain closes until spring.

  • Just hiked this last week. I'm glad I didn't video it because I couldn't have topped this. Great job! Thanks.

  • @bethniece Well thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I was just now watching your most recent uploads, and enjoyed them very much. What a fantastic cabin, right on the water! What a great place. thanks

  • I've climbed this mountain quite a few times, and am always knocked out by the beauty of this place. If God created any place more heart stopping, He must have kept it for himself!

  • @hdgdn well said, and very true.

  • Thanks, nice video, nice music. I want to do the AT too. I would like to sail the Atlantic with my small Westerly sail boat, park it up in Charleston for 6 months and do the AT. Have to wait a year or two before I can get away from the grind though. Have never visited America so should be a good way of seeing it.

  • No video can do those beautiful views justice but you came pretty darn close!

  • that is so true, so true indeed...

  • I've seen this mountain a hundred times in the distance enroute to my wifes grandmothers camp in Danforth, Maine.... It is awesome to see it up close and personel through you....Thank you very much..

  • it is an awesome mountain isn't it...

single biggest climb on the ENTIRE AT.

  • starting in GA in late March

    thanks for the vids

  • nice video, I finished my thru-hike Aug 3rd 2009 the day before, what an amazing clear day, i started early in the morning and saw nothing but fog and clouds, thanks for letting me see what the mountain actually looks like......

  • no kidding. Congrats on finishing, well done : )

On my first thru hike I also finished in fog, except it was on Springer, where you had started from...

  • Even though I only have 200 miles, watching this video of the Hunt Trail is very emotional. Thanks for posting!

  • What a clear day man. Awesome video - you can see forever. Miss that trail, and miss you bro.

  • Awesome footage. Makes me want to get outside . . . and that's saying a lot for a fat lazy guy.

  • Simple is better! Great video.

  • Sweet video!!! Everything is so beautiful!

    Kaeli :)

  • Awesome video. You really captured the view from the trial nicely. I especially liked the part near the end when everyone was just sitting and drinking in the views. I can't wait until I get to hike that section. Thanks for posting.

  • I did that trail for the first time on August 1st '09. It was great but when we got to the first iron handhold things got sketchy... I'm not to fond of heights like that but looking back on it it wasn't so bad. I'm thinking about doing it again sometime this year does anyone know if Abol trail is better to go up?

  • Great video, 2 friends and I are doing it for the first time on Aug. 17, the video is inspiring.

  • Was is as great as the first time aroundI can imagine it was thansk for sharing.

  • absolutely amazing video - thanks for sharing
