@AthleteCentral yeah but ironically strength isn't the main thing with wsm...it's also about flexibility, endurance, mobility, fitness, and also strength of character.
@Nikon05 I certainly did not. If you read the comments i made before the one you commented on yourself, then you'd have the whole plot, instead of just commenting in middle of a post.
If i was put beside Jon pall with no weight on my back and same with him.. And we took a running contest.. i'd woop his arse so badly ... But that doesnt make me stronger then me. Its only because i am alot smaller(in weight that is). I'm not even training that much. But i'd with 100% run faster then him because i have less weight to carry around with. If i wanted to challenge him in weight liften for that matter, i'd have no chance. And the "fat guy" is just stronger then Jon.
It's so sad to see so many of these strength legends are no longer with us.
Why is that? Have they done any medical studies on the strongman lifestyle? Heavy lifting? Diet? Steroids? Other factors? Why is the mortality rate so high?
@gmanchannel2 people die phaggot, no one is immortal, there are many that are living today, suck as bill, so before you try to point lifters deaths to steroids/etc. use your common sense, do some research, more ppl die from peanut poisoning than roids idiot....thats like saying that office workers have high morality rates due to typing....
the biggest reason, it's aerobic vs. anaerobic training.... these men are HUGE in anaerobic, but have less aerobic strength (endurance) than other athletes. Fast twitch muscle is typically anaerobic, these men have an advantage of extreme strength, at the cost of endurance, slow twitch muscles. However, many cyclists and "long distance" athletes have also died young, so it too must be a matter of predisposition to diseases and just plain old life situations.
RIP Jón Páll Sigmarsson. One of the best Strongman ever. I have watched Strongman competitions since 96 or so but I haven´t heard of him before. Sad that he died so young.
I am very moved by Jón Páll, his personality and attitude have made a great impact on my life, he inspires me to keep on lifting. I am glad I got to know about him, and I'd definitely recommend anyone to get to know more about him.
It's great to see some clips of him I've never seen before :) Thank you for everything Jón Páll and rest in peace, you true Viking warrior!
You are correct. The truck pull is a significant test of strength. You need powerful calves, glutes, quads, lats, shoulders, biceps and forearms. However, I stand by my original statement that a quarter mile run around a track with a relatively light weight on one's back is not a significant test of strength.
The track run at the end of the 1990 final was kind of B.S. It is one thing to have a loading race or farmers carry where shoulder and grip strength are being tested. However, this was simply cardio endurance with a light weight that had virtually no test of strength.
@Sportsman4920 true...had that event not been in there o.d. probably would have won that year...nothing against jon pall but o.d. absolutely destroyed that field as far as brute strength events go
Kaz was the stronger competitor. Period.
