LETS ALL GET THIS STRAIGHT. This is about a boy who was abused when he was a child. He didn't know what love was, but he knew it existed. He wanted to love somebody but didn't know how. One day he met a girl walking down the sidewalk and raped her. He didn't regret it, but knew it was wrong. So he poured kerosene into his bathtub and lit it on fire. The "glow flies" are fireflies. He likes them because he is afraid of the dark (his parents kept him in a dark room as a child) THE TRUTH. 100%

@TpendragonT Glow flies could mean either, Fire flies, or sparks from a fire. Sparks would make more sence. No matter what Google says. People have their own appinions of what something means.

The song directly. Is about an illegitimate boy abused from when he was baby. His mother Hannah didn't teach him how to love properly. So of course he falls in love with a girl and is afraid she will leave him. So he cages her, literally... and steals her virginity. I believe he slits her wrists and ankles and murders her as well. It goes on to say he is a fragile child, and Hannah's mistake. Obviously he can't sleep due to guilt. He uses a bathtub of karosene and goes up in flames... yeah..O_O

I think we should all realize, some music isn't good for listening. I like this song, but I do not agree with their message. Their argument for writing this was very weak. They used the idea, as I stated earlier. That illegitimate children don't receive enough love as well. They state some very childish and offensive things. Anyways, these girls seem to have some issues... I DON'T recommend checking out the book that inspired such bad philosophies. We need more love, not hate.

This is a very disturbing song. The book " East of Eden" inspired it, but it isn't based off of any book characters. It's about rape and how so called illegitimate children all become Monsters. Direct quote from Meg and Dia.I know that logic is fucked... but It's their opinion. My sister has a son who is illegitimate and I love him. He is no Monster. I am illegitimate myself. I am no Monster. Hannah is supposed to be a friend of theirs who had an illegitimate child BTW. Not a character.
