  • And then they became our lord and savior..All HAIL TOOL!..

  • ITS A GOOD Thing we were able to see the drummer

  • Grrrrroovin'

  • its a shame a great video like this was ruined due a retarded filmer,

  • @stinkfist93420 someone trying to share a clip and you bitch about it, you piece of shit go fuck yourself

  • @dreyersg you should have to use words...just play HUSH and drown him out

  • @stinkfist93420 What could possibly find wrong w/ this video?

  • choices are easy when it comes to Tool

  • i was a little girl first time i heard this and have loved tool ever since

  • Maynard James Keenan for President!!!!!!!

  • they have that same opening speech for the 2010 tour and then they open with third eye

  • This song is taking the piss out of religion, mainly christianity, with a sarcastic aproach.

We are deaf blind and dumb and born to follow a religion without our say, it is just induced into us from our parents or schools. Life choices are brought upon us, giving us a 'god' to follow and by his apparent rules. We are told we cannot get to heaven if we don't follow these rules. But really how do we know he doesn't want to just rape us when we get there? or how come he can't come down and save us

  • @jwsg90 I don't think maynard is saying god wants to literally rape us... I think hees using the word rape to mean god wants to use us for his benefit and our loss. The religion gains followers who give their money, time and well being, in turn get nothing out of it other then their false promises of heaven.

  • this is a song about Christianity .... listen to Judith by A perfect circle will make his feelings more clear

  • @darklight385 true. but i think he's mellowed out about religion quite a bit since thn.

  • @darklight385 judith is about his mom, she had a stroke

  • dude how the fuck are they movin those giant grape ball things?!? lol

  • @xXdEaThSeQuEnCeXx Black balloons tied together and suspended....

  • Downright whip-assedness.

  • "Religion is the opiate of the masses."

Song is a reference to the cult of scientology.

  • @suckbar69

    Well, religion in general.

  • @suckbar69 i dont get it so he is singing against scientology or for it?

  • @habbs23 i dont think particularly for it or against, but thats his inspiration for the song. its about religion in general like someone said earlier.

  • nice vid, even though it pissed me off he didn't film danny on the last part...

  • just so you know, the song is titled "H." because thats the first letter of his sons name :p

  • Comment removed

  • No, his son's name is Devo. HIs middle name is just H. Well thats what I heard =]

  • It's called Opiate genius like the title of the vid

  • Comment removed

  • H. Was About Maynard, not Even Drugs

  • Comment removed

  • its about religion being the opiate of the masses....

    Marx....

  • Comment removed

  • Maynard was never addicted to Heroin. Stop analyzing and start enjoying the songs.

  • Comment removed

  • i think if you want background music, then TOOL aint your thing. I think you'd be better off listening to Britney Spears This is interpretation, im sorry, but i assume he speaks of addiction in that soing titled "H" hmm if im wrong i am but you arent making yourself look better than me you just look ignorant. No please you over critical stupid internet people, you dont like what i say, consider this IGNORE it. makes life EASIER

  • wish they played this song live more often =,(

  • think for yourself, question authority says the wizard. and lets all remember it

  • good advice coming from the mouth of another fool. let's all remember to remember ourselves.

  • yeah opiates are so good. so good i've been strung out on oxys for 6 years

  • the songs not even about drugs you stupid junkie fuck

  • I love Opiate so much... The song and the drug.

  • choices are a problem for you

  • What do you mean by that?

  • Choices always were a problem for you...

  • This is my last point about my comment below.

People don't need to show or tell you what love is. You can define what love and inspiration is but the true defintion is what lays in your own heart not by what someone tells you it is. Since religon is notorious for starting a so called "holy war" the only way that people can change the world is by communicating compassion through: understanding, and love. And not by what someone or what god tells you. (i hope this world will change some day).

  • Who cares about your comments on love. I got news for you buddy---as long as those girls still keep getting their monthly bills...us guys are mother fucked!!!

  • From what I know Maynard has a strong dislike for extremists, and fundamentalists.

And how people believe in a god fundamentally because they use god as a shield to protect rather than explore (Timothy Leary stresses that point)compassion is hard to find in a bible. And i hate it when those bible thumpers wave their finger in my face and point to the bible and say "this is what love is".

  • i luv tool !!!

  • Tool one of my favorites bands damm!!!!!

  • tool IS my favorite band

  • jesus christ why dont you come save my life now.?

  • Woo, Tool rock!!!!!!! I know that and I'm only 14! I'm so hardcore xD

Is Maynard out of it for every concert? lol

Nevertheless, you kick ass dude! *Hi-5*

  • im 12 beat that lol

  • Hardcore? No. Noooo.

Hardcore is a form of punk rock music.

    Don't call your self hardcore.

  • que astral es Tool Carajo!!!

  • yeah i'd have to say tool has no label, they give a big fuck you to all these sissy bands that r out today like my chemical romance and stupid fags like that. these guys r professionals in every sense, theyre in their 40's and still rock harder than the sissies. i saw them last july in detroit for the first time and i was blown away. i've been a fan since 92 and ive never seen them live, (i'm an idiot) god was i missing out.

  • Woot, you own dude.

    *hi-5*

  • I second that HIGH 5. FUCK my chemical romance and all them other cock sucking emo fag bands. Gethe fuck off the bandwagon and listen to some tool

  • @gjefle so close minded

  • I totally agree with you. It seems alot of the music these days are just dumbing down america but whatever, least i still know where to turn to for intelligent music. I've seen tool 4 times so far and everytime i stop and take a moment to notice the crowd around me, its the same everytime, people staring at the stage jaws on the floor...in a trance

  • July 3rd show? I was there, too bro! Remember when Wings started? Everyone fucking flipped!

  • i agree with u

    TOOL for ever

    shavo.

  • thats awesome shit at the start with Justin and Adam setting up

  • It is a Timothy Leary quote and you're both right. He was a philosopher at harvard and thought LSD would solve everything. Although not a crackpot, perhaps just needed someone strong to guide him, like me?

  • kinda wuz a crackpot or a hippie

  • timothy leary was the head of the department of philosophy of harvard

he was not a crackpot, you simpleton

  • This song is soooooo sick.

  • ya no joke tool is the gods of metal

  • label it country, josCmbl,..?? what a dumbfuck...

  • I would label it country

  • Is this Joseph Campbell talking at the start? Can sombody confirm?

  • That's Tim Leary

  • I don't think tool really wants you to label their music like this. Just enjoy it, who the F--- cares what genre someone says it falls into. Are we so self imposed with segregation??

Most magazines n such throw 'alternative/metal/progressive' on them, in fact wasn't their grammy for best metal record ?

  • tool is are generations pink floyd anyone born between 76and later fuck yeah

  • This was the voice recording used in the beginning of the live version of third eye on Salival wasnt it?

  • Yeah its Timothy Leary.

  • It was indeed Timothy Leary. You are an idiot.

  • Leary wasn't a crackpot. That's just exactly what they want you to think. Have you even studied this man and attempted to understand what he was about at all other than the thin slice of him they've handed to you? Didn't think so. Check out 8-circuit consciousness on wikipedia, and check out the article about him there to get a better idea.

  • Timothy leary was a lecturer you retard. he didn't constantly suggest LSD, he reccomended it saying a phycadelic experience can open peoples eyes, not to solve problems. you shouldn't always believe what the media feeds you.

  • TooL are so wicked!

    I love 'em!

I think their music is psychedelic metal, right?

  • its music.

  • tool is the shit...i started listening to them about 2 years ago and im hooked. their cd's have been in my ro-ro for a while now...no other band is like them especially at Bonaroo 2007 f**king badass show

  • thanks, fantastic

  • why wud you label this metal...

    youtube . com/watch?v=4JnYvQpXBNQ

Watch that... and youll see why i pity you for

    labeling it 'metal'

  • I'd say progressive metal.

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakaka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • besides, all that stuff in the background isn't tool or anything tool related, that was terrible grunge music that those idiots put in the background because they didn't have the copyrights to the music.

  • yea... that has nothing to do with it. Theres a piece where Adam says, I hate being called metal, because its such a gross scene. Not an exact quote, but Thats what im talking about. Tool is nothing to be labeled, they have their own style.

  • I agree you cant put Tool into a category when there is nothing else like them. Not metal by a long shot. Just Tool.

  • tool is the best, opiate is a great song from the old songs

  • Interesting song. Dunno if the lyrics are supposed to provoke or entertain, but very neat performance!

  • Maynard was Raised Baptist, that should give a clue.

  • timothy leary :]

  • this is my favourite song I love it;)

  • why don't you focus danny at the end...

  • I'd have to agree- whoever videotaped this whole thing zoomed in on Danny and then focused elsewhere at the end deserves to have their head knocked.

  • wtf happened to justin at 2:58

  • haha, yea that was crazy!

  • im glad they used the tim leary clip with opiate...makes much more sense than third eye..however sounds cool in both

  • this is amazing. and ive only seen the first minute!

  • how the fck can the filmer not focus on carey at the end...seriously if you listen to any fucking tool you know that's one of the coolest songs you can see carey play live

  • yeah i hate it when Danny Carey is doin something really sick but they video tapes on someonee eles.

  • Yo!!! Cut him some slack! Do you know how hard it is to get a camera in a tool show?? Nevermind the constant security. This comment is ridiculous!!!

  • love maynard!!His sooo amazing.

  • GREAT video man

  • awsome!

  • maynard is fucking to amazing for words

  • yeah nice ! thx dude

  • tight ass song still one of my favs

  • Wow, Maynard hits the notes on this song like perfect, fuckin sweet awesome video

  • Fuck that was good. And the crowd roaring at the end, man I wish I was there.

    Thanks for uploading man.

  • Stop whining about lack of DC footage you dicks, you should be thankful that Modus has even posted this video - it's rare as fuck, and it's an awesome video. (Hell, I'm a drummer and a huge DC fan and I'm not whining about it.) I've never seen Opiate with the Leary sample at the start - interesting. That intro rules. Great video man! Thanks alot.

  • this concert isn't rare at all. it's been all over the internet and even on ebay. it's nov 2002 in san diego.

  • yea THANKS for not getting any footage of the drummer. grr you suck.

  • very nice thanks

  • man..justin is skinier then i thought lol

  • Good clip, but why the fuck didn't you zoom in on the awesome drumming at the end?

It's like you purposely miss one of the most awesome parts of the song :/

  • Tool=cool

  • Great video and audio, thanks.
