u definitly can fall in love with someone online. I fell in love with a guy from California, and i live in Europe.. The Netherlands. He came to see me, and i went a couple times to see him. After one year we broke up. But i would definitly do it again if i were single.

The BEST way to approach is to think you've met a fun and interesting friend, so if nothing more, at least you have that.
The thing I like most about online encounters is the type of connection you can have - IF you are observant and know what type of details to look for and naturally connect on. I think with all the online dating stuff that you guys discuss you should address the safety of it. I heard Dan say "meet quickly." I'm not sure that is such a good idea unless you have put in some ground rules and safety parameters. Online dating can be REALLY dangerous if you aren't careful. Yeah, that's true what you're saying, but it happens all the time, people "fall in love" online and it's just a combination of what they want to believe about a person, but love can be real, when you're attractive to the qualities inside and the little details that make you realize how the person really is ( I mean habits, modals), but that happens one in a hundred, because the majority get involved their feelings by an illusion and when they meet, they get disappoint and that wasn't true love.

The thing I like most about online encounters is the type of connection you can have - IF you are observant and know what type of details to look for and naturally connect on. It's even more fun when you can take those detailed things and use them in a fun, flirty way. Sitting there and just looking / complimenting on pics like every other guy, well that's one thing. but to see actual detail, use it in a humorous teasing way to make her laugh, but still showing certain level of interest is nice

Online people have the advantage of being able to build something outside of physical, which is where many people fail and around age 31-35 the divorce papers come into play. well they are right about the smell and all, but to be honest, they are vastly wrong in another sense. Why? Because all those things like smell and mannerisms and stuff don't last. Those as well as looks are the first things to go out the door when you first have children, get older, get stressed, etc. The things that will remain are nothing but your words and your mind. I think with all the online dating stuff that you guys discuss you should address the safety of it. I heard Dan say "meet quickly." I'm not sure that is such a good idea unless you have put in some ground rules and safety parameters. Online dating can be REALLY dangerous if you aren't careful. Too many women sleep with a man too quickly and this makes the man stop being emotionally intimate with you because he doesn't have to. Men are the most open and talk to you the most before they sleep with you. But I do think you should talk about wanting to meet in person. Meet them in public and tell other people where and when you are meeting

well i have a bf online.. and its been 6 months..and finally this week i got a webcam and its the first time we have like seen each other moving and what not.. i know that sounds weird but we are in love with each other..and he will be moving here..jus for me. and btw hes 18 and im 16 i live in VA and he lives in WA we couldnt be any happier we know we are spending the rest of our lives together and when i tell ppl the situation im in they have the weirdest faces but no one will ever understand

i'm in love with a girl online, and we've been in love for 3 years now..and never met, is it possible its real? we really, really, want to meet but we cant, cause of our distance and age. We're probably going to have to wait another 3-5 years before meeting :( we are truely in love though, we wanna marry, and have kids lol...has anybody else been in the same situation? 8 years will be a long time before meeting each other, but we're in love enough to wait.

same here. i couldn't agree more that physical contact is VERY NECESSARY. i mean, you can do all the sweet talks as much as you want. but hey, not being physically together will definitely get you nowhere. i say we go for it (my bf is from texas...and i'm asian too...LOL) and we're definitely going to meet. Dan is right. don't let your online love affair remain online. meet him ASAP!!!

The idea that it can't happen in person is crap. Yeah, interaction in person is different, but if its love of the soul many thinsg transcend. I married the man I met over the internet, and we lived on other sides of the globe!

I thought this was a VERY interesting topic, seeing as my boyfriend I met online. We haven't met, but we've been dating for 10 months. Yeah, I did fall in love with him, but now I realize that we need to meet. And I definitely agree. When you're dating someone only online, you do fill in all these blanks with what you WANT that person to be. So be smart about it, and save yourself disappointment. Go meet them.

I met a girl online and we talk ALL the time (over the phone, email, whatever we can get to) only because we live 10 hours away. I can tell I love her, she and I get in fights sometimes, and true love has fights. I don't see why people believe that you can't have a relationship over the internet.
Oh, and my parents met over the phone, have been together for 18 years, and if not for that phone service I wouldn't be here. Please, don't say they will never work because they can and do.

Personally I've had two long term relationships from meeting online and these days I don't even bother with RL dating anymore because people tend to "put up a wall" much more in real life. It's just faster and deeper to get to know them online first until that trust is there.

Jenn what you said about mannerisms. Examples of that: seeing how they interact with other people, seeing how they react under stressful conditions, how they act in situations where they need to make either a selfless or selfish choice. Actually you can learn these things online. Not through webcams, not through email nor through chats. But you CAN learn them in online games such as World of Warcraft.

Hmm.. I have a BF for three years that I thought i might have been my soul mate. We thought we were in love .. But when we met it went really wrong. And we broke up almost directly after that. It CAN work, i have many friends who it has worked for but both of you really need to be in love and be emotionally mature and strong people. It takes an incredible amount of patients and it's just plain hard. To put it simply. They are either right for you or they aren't. No matter where you meet them. GL

ok i've been talking to this guy for almost a month and we've been talking for hours everyday.We've literally both stayed up until 5am talking.but we're both very young. He lives 3 hrs. away but it might as well be 30hrs bc we'll only be able to meet up once if we're lucky bc neither of our parents wants us to chat. Is it ok to go ahead and online date even tho we both no we probably wont be able to meet?

I met my girlfriend online BUT I didn't agree to date her until I had met her in person, so I took a greyhound bus across 900 miles and met her and her family first. We stayed together for about three weeks, and she plans to move where I live soon.
So I guess this means I did what these Dan and Jennifer people said, heheh.

God, I'm sorry but, I've been 'Dating' a guy over the net for 2 years now, We've already planned on meeting each other. Hell, Sometimes I wonder if he's my Soul Mate. Cause I always have dreams of him in my sleep and When I tell him, He's amazed because once, I dreamed of him texting me, I guessed the color of his phone, and I was dead right. u can meet people and fall in love online i have. i have we meet on imvu in September talked on there for 3 weeks then moved to web cam then in December he cam to visit me and have been together ever since now we r geting a house in a week or 2 and cant be any happier.
