  • In my opinion, this is the way it should be performed (or at least the closest). People forget that Juliet is barely 14. Romeo is only a few years older. Teen angst and lust are alive and well in their hearts. Just because Shakespeare wrote with such beautiful language doesn't mean these children share adult love. Its angsty. Awkward. And funny. The play is tragic, but this scene (along with a number of others) is a perfect opportunity for the hilarity of natural humility. Well done, I say. :)

  • he no can act

  • Wait, are we completely, 100% sure, they didn't intend to make it comedy? I can't even think straight anymore.

  • Mr. Romeo takes his line, too literally. They turned it into a comedy. He would've been great, if he wasn't too much. He already has a great soothing voice, it's just his movements, and exaggeration. Poor thing too, could have been a lovely play.

  • This scares me very badly :(

  • I Like this take on it. He's like a nervous school boy

  • @lsm1983ia seh kind of sucks though. :?

  • jccjulio---I agree.

  • I think Romeo's actually kinda funny...

  • I LOVE IT.

  • @2:25 bhaha best thing ever

  • Absolutely no chemistry between them. And why are they YELLING everything!? It's meant to be the dead of night and Juliet said herself if they found Romeo there they'd kill him, yet she's basically screaming every second word.

  • haha romeo is crazy in this he is like leaping all of the stage....and he moves his arms so much! lol

  • Romeo is a pansy

  • Juliet is not supposed to be mentally retarded...

  • omg... what the fuck did you do to Shakespeare????

  • You can tell they don't really love the art of acting. They don't try to put themselves in the situation, just....bad acting period......

  • ewww. I can't watch the whole thing.

  • This succcks.

  • i think she's adorable, which is perfect because she's supposed to be 13. He's a little obnoxious though.

  • LOL at the way Juliet screamed ''AHHH'' great parody !!!!!

  • this is shit. nothing more to be said!

  • Why on earth is she yelling? But oh my is he dreaaaamyyyyyy! She sucks though it annoys me how bad she is.

  • this suck.

  • they just... cant play the parts. 8dissapointment :(

  • Ugh...

  • This dosent have th old style passion as other plays do. He makes it sound so empty compared to how much there should be.

  • I think he's good!

  • YOU SUCK

  • does he have a problem keeping his balance? and acting?

  • man she is as well a bad actress, can they scream any louder!

  • oh god, terrible actor he is...

  • lol we're reading this for literature and it is sooooooooooooooo damn sweet

  • The guy playing Romeo is excellent, but the only good thing about Juliet that I could see was the scream. The scream was perfect. Aside from that, the monologue was absolutely slaughtered.

  • @VentureCrew007 I Completely agree... She made me not wanna recite this monolouge in class... D:

  • WHATS MONTEGUuuuuuuuuuuue? =))))))))

  • @hazeljoyy09 some dude in the story

  • @1234chocolatebrownie hahah yea i know. Im just imitating how the girl said it...

  • I like the guy who plays Romeo, but the girl playing Juliet is too loud and aggressive.

  • lmfaooooo ROMEO! AHHHHHHHHHHHH! this is more of a comedy version of romeo and juliet

  • It's so sad that in these days you can't find a guy like Romeo...

  • Wow! I'm assuming this was adapted to be a comedy! Otherwise... I wouldn't even know where to start!

  • LOL this was really funny ! i loved it

  • where was this acted at? it's pretty bad and does the beautiful play no justice at all

  • 6:21 is funny as hell

    "BY AND BY I COME"!!!!!!!!!!

lighten up Juliet she's a little physcotic

  • @cookieshopgirl LOL!

  • If this is supposed to be a comedic adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, than I shall laugh.

But if it is truly meant to be serious and passionate, as the original script/play is, than I am afraid this has failed.

  • @Otterlover21 Haha, it says a new take, so I think it's meant to be funny. :)

  • @mmg1195 That makes me feel less uneasy about this haha!

  • lol The dog at 4:20.

  • sad. just sad.

  • wow :(

  • yeah, juliet is definitely drunk

  • Did he seriously fall at 0:25? That DID NOT look like part of the script.

  • O___O

  • oh god! juliet sounds drunk! no ofence...

  • honestly i thought thats was pretty good :)

  • This Juliet seemed mentally unstable! @_@

  • it's a bit spastic...

  • Romeo all right but Juliet is terrible - no offence!

  • lmfao this is terrible! what a joke.

  • Okayyyyyyy? I think the Romeo is too over-reacting. The one who plays Juliet sounds a little drunk. Gentleness, love, and devotion must be present in their voices. I can't find these. I like the fact that they put themselves in their character but... they put a little TOO much. Zefirelli's version is the best in my opinion.

  • @jccjulio I agree.. Zeffirelli's version is the best ever

  • In the old movie it was more intimate and juliet was more gentle. There was ALOT of kissing in the old one

  • However Romeo is abit twichty and can get annoying! In my opinion :)

  • The part Romeo speaks well

Juliet is awful in my opinion

  • 0.0 wow thats sad watch the movie with leonardo dicaprio now he was hot in that movie!

  • pretty good acting tho

  • wow that was terrible

  • romeo :/

  • This Romeo is awful.. Too many points of focus! Who directed this? Why is he looking all around at nothing?? Why does Juliet sound drunk???? What is the artistic angle here?

  • LOL i was just thinking the same thing... i've seen several stage productions of this and this is one of the worst. It sounds like their trying to hard to act lol :)

  • nais .... iv playd the balcony scene at school ....i was romeo...... and a friend was juliet ( like he was a guy ) hilarious

  • i think i'm a fan of this for the wrong reasons.

  • this seems a comedy!!!

  • this juliet seems too aggressive, juliet is a thirteen year old who wants to please her parents. she's not the type to scream at someone who's nursed her since infancy, especially not so early in the play

  • What is so unfortunate about this scene is that they have removed any relationship between themselves to their characters, and are simply showing off their vocal range and abilities. They have zero connection, and are simply acting rather than actually developing a relationship.

  • @westside2story4

I agree with everything but the acting statement, for acting is not lying. That is what they are doing here: lying and pretending. If they were acting, their characters WOULD develop a relationship.

  • oh they cut so many lines.. i think it's a crime to cut shakespeare

plus, i don't like juliet's tone when she says the first set of lines, but i adored the way she screamed when romeo said "I take thee at thy word"

  • what is this shit

  • Romeo is like a little 5-year old on sugar!!! Look he is all over the plays jumping and fluttering aroun, while Juliet is slightly scary, but very dominate!! However they do work and as for this scene no words can descirbe it but Romeo, Romeo!!

  • They should have been more giddy and in love ...oh well cool set

  • what is this

  • uhhh that was um interesting

  • this is a joke right

  • this is a joke right?

  • jeez that chick scared the shit out of me! so beastly cant act for crap! romeo was alright. wassup with the damn dog?

  • juliet was abit well...beastly.

she scared the living crap out of me at points and then when she said romeo at about 2 minutes ish, likee jesus christ =.=

but romeo well that's another story...he was pretty good but around 5:50 haha that made me proper laughh xD but he was muchh more better then juliet.

  • I had watched this in the hopes of finding out how to pronounce "livery"... and the line was skipped.

Still, this scene is very well-done.

  • laaaaame

  • er..ö JULIET scares me! :)) haha:)) i cant stop laughing.

  • i couldn't see Juliet at the beginning, plus what's up with the dog barking?

  • haha some of that is my lines for the juliet part because I do the O Romeo to take all myself bc I am doing a shakesphere club audition

  • romeo is amazing im useing his monolog for an audition

its goin to be hard to do this by myself

  • Dude pretty good. Its theatre u tools, not bloody Hollywood, u HAVE 2 exaggerate or the audience will lose interest. U spend 3 hours in a theatre listening to bloody shakespearean language.

  • yes, you do have to exaggerate, and the shakespearean language isn't too difficult to learn. but, however, despite the fact that you must exaggerate, this juliet didn't really deliver this scene properly, especially her monolouge. it's supposed to be romantic, not shouting and well, scary. the actress seemed to have a certain attitude about her that wasn't very appealing or juliet-esque.

    romeo, though, was fantastic. xD

  • Thats right, i was thinking of Romeo 2. But Shakespear plays depend heavily on the language, what evers on their mind comes out in words, and the audience dont need 2 pay to much attention to the actor because he doesnt have 2 act too well.

  • that is where differ. it doesn't really depend heavily on language; it kind of is how they spoke back then. it's old english. about the acting not having to be good? um, it's shakespeare. and even if it wasn't, i don't think you'd want to blow your money on some crappy actor. people usually dislike bad acting in plays or movies.

  • If Juliet is so beautiful to Romeo, why does he keep looking away and doing those asides with the audience? His eyes should be glued on her!

  • romeo was good. juliet scared me :0

  • over exxagerated.. just like the shitty remake in 1996

the original was the don and it went by the script with realism

they didnt have such emphasism and projectile voices

  • 2:29-2:30 LOL!!!

  • Juliet is pretty!! :)

  • Juliet needs to start taking her pills...

  • christ, she screamed at the nurse!!

  • oh... romeo is handsome and two thumbs up well done!! but juliet was...awful and i don't like her

  • The Juliet isn't really good, but I'm happy that they put some comedy on here. love the Romeo. :)

  • Romeo is amazing! bloody well done mate.

  • Does sombody now how can I download this video!

  • romeo made me giggle, very good job. juliet was a little too... exuberant? i think that's the word i want. she spoke too loud.

  • THank you!!!

  • The girl playing juliet is awful.. She sounds manic half the time.. she isnt even feeling the emotion of the words. Juliet is meant to be gentle, but firm.. not shouting and intimidating :/ romeo is better.

  • God, she made me jump when she screamed "ROMEO!"

  • You too huh?

  • Same here, jeez. It's like "CALM DOWN!" lol.

  • @JoWannaC Are you referring to the part at 2:20? If so then it scared me too :)

  • @Gavin17259 Yep, I believe that was it!

  • @JoWannaC lmao, my fav part is when he's talkin abt Juliet and he falls!! lol

  • @JoWannaC

Why does she have to say Mon-ta-gue like that? LMAO!!

  • @xVenomousVixenx09 LMAO soo funny

  • Very good i loved Romeo if only when i did it that my romeo was that good!

  • well it IS her first time acting and she was very focused on memorizing her lines, so i guess juliet wasnt that bad at acting.

  • juliet is ok shes not terrible but romeo is really good!

  • i like it but the only thing is, is that u cant see juliet too well in the begining

  • why didnt he climb the balcony?

  • I love Romeo, he is very good. Juliet is fairly bad.

  • Ahh juliet sucks!

    But romeo..omg..hes awesome

  • Surprisingly good.

  • It helped me with my acting:)

  • yah romeo's character makes me laugh tee hee lol

  • i love it when he says "no i am too bold!"

    it's better this way

  • good for memorizing lines

  • Comment removed

  • i like it bt i'm nt sure bout the actress hu was juliet

  • ok... woah... um, they're a little bit aggro aren't they? Hmm.. maybe I'm too used to watching the Baz Luhrmann version of the film (as we're studying it for english) but this seems really weird... They're meant to be innocent and young and in new love not yelling at the night...

  • I really like the Romeo, I'm a bit iffy on the Juliet.

  • The guy that plays Romeo is really good. His take on Romeo is more belivable for a teen hero of today.

  • helped me to memorize lines!

  • Damn good acting!

  • I love this interpretation of Romeo's character, it makes me laugh =)

  • OMG U ARE GOOD AT ACTING

  • i luv it!

  • it's okay, romeo's speech is too long

  • i love it!!! that jUliet should've been me!!! i bet i couldl do it better then her. of course soon as i clear some spave on my camera i'll upload some of my material.

  • what i like about this interpretation of Romeo here is that the character doesn't seem so idealistic. he's so realistic here! just what i would expect from a teenager in love! kudos!

  • Wow, such a beautiful interpretation of Shakespeare's prose... I've never heard it in such a way. What originality! What is this? Professional play? High school? College? Hmmm... surprised no one else has commented yet.
