Bad comparison @ 4:22. Thelma Ritter had drama school training in New York. She took time off to raise her children, then she went back and acted in MINOR roles. She was willing to start with the minor roles before she landed the major supporting roles. Eunice wants to be a star by tomorrow. That's impossible.
I have to agree with you. Chances of becoming a smash hit overnight are slim to none. It takes time, talent, patience, hard work and a lot of luck to become successful. Any performer, both aspiring and professional, can tell you that.
This is very telling of the sycophantic personality. Her brother actually offers her some support and out of stupidity and hubris, she rejects it. Just like my ass older brother.
That wig sucks but then the dress is so loud that her hair is the least of her problems...Vent was normal back then. Too bad that he ended up Joe crazy after this episode.
It was a stroke of genius to put Carol Lawrence in the role as mama. But it must have been funny to them since everyone in the family except: Bubba, Sonya and Buzz.
Betty white was 27 yrs older, Naomi (vint's wife) was 2 yrs older, Rue McClanahan 15. Finally, Ken Berry and Carol Burnett were both 16 years older!!
I would recommend any abused or neglected child of today watch this series. It touches a cord as to where our places are in our own families. I truly believe if it wasnt for the charaecter Eunice I would have never seen anything cllosley relating to my own childhood. This is TIMELESS BRILLIANT WORK... ABC,CBS,NBC, Today you are way off the mark with comedy! This is ART!
Hey TAB,........They ain't no BUT coming out of my mouth.....LOL...This is the best skit I have seen her do about her 'acting career."~~~~~~~Smiles, Joan
well Vint is Mama's son, and Phil's brother. So why not have the same guy place vint? There's just a very strong resemblence between the siblings. lol
"And pretty soon Billy's gonna be outta my hair" ... in this universe, Eunice goes beyond selfishness and megalomania and is promoted to evil bitch from the pit of hell.
I grew up on this show and the old Superstation TBS in general. This stuff still cracks me up. It's too bad you can't find these shows on tv any more. I love it!! Carol Burnett is the funniest actress ever and the Eunice character is her best.
Eunice is such an ingrateful little brat. I can't stand how she talks to her family but the whole family is so hostile to each other. So sad that Mama dies in the end.

Oh, my God. Eunice is such an ass, expecting her brother to get her leading acting roles. If this special was meant to wring compassion for Eunice from the viewer it didn't work; she and Mama were hopeless.
The truth is, it was agony for everybody!

@bdwriley I agree with your statement. It's great to have a dream and the impossible can happen, but Eunice was not very realistic.

I get it now! That's why Eunice doesn't want anything to do with Bubba during the Mama's family series. It all makes sense now.

eunice might have had a chance to actually make something of herself if she went for small parts first and THEN went trying to get big ones

Yes, the sketches with Eunice sure had a tragic yet comedic tinge to them... A combo that is sure enthralling and entertaining...

I can't believe they got Ken Berry to play Eunice's brother, Phil in this show but later in the regular show he plays Mama's son, Vinton. Thank You.

I think that Phil in this version is gay, but in the sketches he marries a movie star.
beau0519 3 years ago
? Why..? It is funny how the character changed 180 degrees in the sitcom, but gay in "Eunice"?

This part is hilarious and shows how Eunice ended up the way she did. This is the Eunice we remember from the skits and from "Mama's Family".
