Ho un libro di 6 duetti tra Joe Pass e Herb Ellis, risalenti ai primi anni 70,quando suonarono per un periodo in duo.Suonano esattamente cosi',in contrappunto.Fantastiche linee melodiche che si intrecciano tra loro.
Wonderful improv jamming! You couldn't ask for better. Zoller recorded some great things with pianist Don Friedman in the 1960s, and the two played really exciting gigs at NYC clubs. Zoller was an interesting, thoughtful and open guy with an astute musical background and a penchant for the unconventional. Raney's work is legendary and more extensive than Zoller's, and I especially like the things he did with Stan Getz. At any rate, this is inspired playing!
Raney manages to get the sound of a D'Angelica out of his guitar!! Wonderfull!! Where is his son?? I haven't heard any of his playing in years!! Does anyone remember hearing jimmy playing at Gulliver's, with no cover charge??? Tal Farlow was free, also!!!
That is one of the absolute best jazz guitar duo pieces I've ever herat (and seen)! Jim Hall, once said that poor Attila Zoller (may the peace be with him and Jimmy Raney!) was probably the best Jazz guitar player of all times, despite of his little popularity and fame. I just saw this video yesterday along with a fellow jazz guitar player and we were totally thrilled by the absolutely fluid nonchalance with which Zoller and Raney combined two independent improvisations into one vibrant tune.
By Far the best view of Jimmy playing. His technique was flawless and his melodic sense was the very best of all the jazz guitarists out there! He was truly the master of jazz guitar and has always been my favorite. Thank you for sharing this great video.
You should check out John Shaffer + Atilla Zoller! There are some great recordings of Atilla Zollar playing with another undiscovered jazz guitar great - John Shaffer.
This was indeed quite amazing! Thanks for sharing this gem! Really good to see The Master Raney live, and given time to stretch out. Btw, his son Doug Raney is also very, very good and plays in the same style as his father. Hope to see more videos featuring Jimmy, and also Doug here at the tube.
Jimmy Raney- master of the clean, uncluttered and harmonically advanced line. I have an old presumably out-of-print LP of Zoot Sims, Jimmy Raney and Jim Hall, another great jazz guitarist. On the Mainstream label-worth a search. Title:"Otra Vez".
I don't know much re: Atilla Zoller- I had only seen his name in print in 20 years of GP magazine a couple of times. An underappreaciated player.
The best video footage of Jimmy Raney I have seen and, sadly, there is very little. I think the tune is Cole Poter's "I Love You". Anyone agree? Such clarity of line, phrasing and harmony. I presented Jimmy on his London debut concert in 1976 at the Shaw Theatre (in a duo with his son). It was filmed by BBC2 TV fof the South Bank show, but I have never seen it since.
@DimaBudaev Jasne że tak, ale tylko w dni parzyste, i jak mam ochotę.

Jimmy quotes "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" at 3:42, followed by a round of smiles.

Definately not completely deaf. You wouldn't be able interact and play off of someone else like that if you were.

Great playing by two wonderful guitarists playing on Cole Porter's I Love You. A good example of playing in the moment.

His son (Doug) lives and performs in Denmark, so if you want to hear a bit of "raney magic" you better visit the Copenhagen Jazzfestival...

I think they're both playing L5's

I think Jimmy Raney is palying a 175 Reverend? and Attilla Zoller is an L5 the tone is incredible when he strokes a chord...

Attila Zoller playes his Signature Model its a Framus AZ-10

Neither are L-5's. The blonde guitar is a Gibson ES-175 and I can't determine the make of the other ("I" "A" is on the headpiece).
