Had a red 1971(K) one for my first bike. Don't remember much about it except that it cost £125 second hand in 1974 and I crashed it into a Landrover and broke my leg. Was a reliable commuter. Sold it on in 1976 and bought a new RD350B.
I bought one of these 1970 same colour.A friend got a blue one.Great bikes.Every 2 weeks the company we bought them from, The Rayspeed Robbery shop in Christchurch, Hampshire replaced the sparking plugs because they ran too hot and melted. So NGK kept coming up with "cooler" plugs.I really don't remember them ever fixing the problem before I traded it in for a BSA A.10 650 when my parents were on holiday. My Dad noticed after a couple of days the bike was different, but told me not tell Mum.
@romaurie I bought a new YAS1 in March 1969 & ran it on NGK B9HC plugs which were fine for continual high rpm use. The problem was that a lot of dealers did the ignition timing with a strobe which for a high performance two stroke is no good, for precise timing it must be done with a dial gauge I never had any problems at all apart from a loose baffle in the LH silencer which was replaced under warranty ...happy days.
Lovely! hats off to you. My first bike also, same colour, a 4th hand '71. One careful owner (and 3 careless thrashers). I became its 4th thrasher and despite that, it never let me down. Onto (and heavily off ;-) a 72 YDS7, then a 77 Suzuki GT380B which I still own to this day. Added a couple of Kettles and a GSX1400 and I'm a kid in clover. Keep up the restos! My first bike in bought second hand for £125 in 1973. Acceleration was amazing and would do 90 on a good day. Handling was dreadful, high center of gravity and wouldn't corner at all. The as3 solved that but wasn't as fast. Nice looking bike, easy to work on and sounded like a wasp. Fond memories...
My second bike, bought second hand for £100 in 1971 (after a few months with the obligatory Bantam). Mine was blue but the tail winds and hills were never enough to reach 90. Went through pistons and rings as fast as petrol!
I bought another part finished restoration10 years ago and it is now back in one piece, beautiful and and sitting on the other side of the office! I love 'em!
Very nice!!!! :)

Brings back memories, I could only get my 1972 AS1 to keep Champion L87Y plugs instead of eating NGK's.
