Steckel might have been lining up a hit, but you can see he was trying to get around Crosby once the puck got through. Crosby just turned in an unfortunate direction, Steckel wasn't trying to blindside him.

I'm working on an article for school on hits to the head. Anyone else find that Andrew Ference's hit on Jeff Halpern looks an awful lot like this one? I find the two hits can be comparable unlike many other hits to the head, and in both situations the "hitter" wasn't suspended. I do not agree with the decisions made in either case, BUT what is done is done. I just hope nothing like this happens again, intensionally or not, because next time, it might be too late, it might end a players career.

I'm working on an article for school on hits to the head. Anyone else find that Andrew Ference's hit on Jeff Halpern looks an awful lot like this one? I find the two hits can be comparable unlike many other hits to the head, and in both situations the "hitter" wasn't suspended. I do not agree with the decisions made in either case, BUT what is done is done. I just hope nothing like this happens again, intensionally or not, because next time, it might be too late, it might end a players career.

The difference between this hit and the Andrew Ference hit is that Steckel skated into Crosby and Halpern skated into Ference. The only similarity here is that neither hit was an act of malicious violence towards the other. I mean Ference gave the Canadien crowd the finger (which was such a dope thing to do) but even with that the league deemed it a non-suspendable hit. You have to take your bias out of it

Steckel passes the puck, skates up lane while crosby turns into his lane. The video actually shows steckel try to jump out of the way. Steckel didnt go out of his way to hit crosby. He was just skating strieght up ice and crosby turns into him, If crosby was paying attention and not doing a figure eight he would still be playing. Do we all have to stop how where skating and jump out of crosbys way because hes not paying attention.

Terrible to see Crosby get injured like that. He really shouldnt have been looking away while players were skating towards the puck. I don't think Steckel meant to hit him, but still a shame to see a terrible head injury like that. Dangerous stuff.

This is such garbage! It's a total incidental contact. No penalty, no cheap shot... Nothing! You can even see the guy trying to go left AROUND Crosby as soon as he notices that hes skating blindly directly at him. Crosby was skating around like an old lady in traffic, and Don Cherry can't help but whine when his precious little man gets hurt.

@Goblues1980 are u kidding me? concussions are a serious issue in the NHL and they can have a huge impact on ur life if not taken seriously. if u rush a concussion, u could end up getting worse concussions later on in ur career and it could end ur career. players like lindros and savard are examples of this. doctors are telling crosby what to do...its not his decision to sit out. why risk ur career and ur life just to be out there when u aren't completely healthy - concussions are dangerous.
