This line-up of Mac was, in my opinion, the greatest force pop had ever seen. Lindsey Buckingham; an under-rated guitarist and producer, Nicks and McVie, fabulous singers, and what about the over-looked back beat; John McVie and Mick Fleetwood? Two talented dudes, and they give a tight beat. In all of FM's incarnations have they been great, but if you want great pop, then someone should listen to FM (1975) and on.
When this tune went to #1 on The Billboard Pop Charts, The Portland Trailblazers won The NBA Championship, Unfortunately for both, neither has been back to #1 again. Hypnotic tune, by the way.
With them singing this song in this slower way, in their older age, I can understand all the words for the first time. I could never get the lyrics in the original "Rumours" version.
@stargazerlily86 Probably age. She's been on the straight and narrow for 20years now. Humans are actually more resilient to drug and alcohol use than most people give credit. Personally I prefer this version over the original. More polished and still relevant to todays music.
2:43 and what you lost. Who'll say what you had? You know what you lost... Thunder only happens when it's rainin' Players only love you when they're playin'.. They say women, they will come and they will go... When the rain washes you clean, you'll know.. Thunder only happens when it's rainin' Players only love you when they're playin'.. before you They say women, they will come and they will go... When the rain washes you clean, you'll know.. You'll know, you will know, Oh oh oh you'll know...
I'm not sure if the band is enjoying this newfound interest in them from lots of us gleeks, but I'm happy to know them now. I think their album Roumours is futuristic and very sophisticated.
IMO, one of the best songs ever written.... won't get sick of it. Ironically I heard the Deep Dish version first, loved it as a youngster, but love this version as an adult...
hi Kobe, thank you for the info on Mr. Buckingham's guitar. I meant no disrespect by not stating his name, I just didn't know it at that moment but I sure do now. I found it interesting that he plays the electric acoustic guitar without the pick since I do, too, and am interested in guitars that are better suited to finger picking.
If you look at the dance concert, many, many times Stevie is looking over to Lindsey thruout many of the songs while she's at the mic...And he back at her...I think the dymanics that for them started while in high school, have never died...Where there is Lindsey, there is Stevie...Where there is Stevie, there too is Lindsey...Where they both are together, there's a hidden love...I don;t know if the way things went, if it could have ever been this good...
Very good and respectful live treatment of this song. Nobody overpowered anyone else and the sound techs did a great job keeping the drums close to the sound originally recorded. Mick did great on the beats per minute and not adding fills not originally recorded.
Now here I go again, I see, the crystal visions I keep my visions to myself It's only me Who wants to wrap around your dreams and... Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Dreams of loneliness... Like a heartbeat drives you mad... In the stillness of remembering What you had And what you lost... What you had... Ooh, what you lost
Now here you go again You say you want your freedom Well, who am I to keep you down? It's only right that you should Play the way you feel it But listen carefully to the sound Of your loneliness Like a heartbeat drives you mad In the stillness of remembering What you had And what you lost... And what you had... And what you lost
I think Christine has weathered the storm of time far better than Nicks. Nicks, while certainly still beautiful, has put on weight and, in my humble opinion, doesn't sing as well as she used to, while McVie/Perfect has improved over that same time. It's just a shame she retired.
@christo930 interestng opinion..I feel that life is like wine..it gets sweeter..they all got older..went through trials and tribulations in their process..and can only be happy they can still reap the fruits from their investment..it all boils down to Love for Life and sharing..their beautiful music
I love it when Stevie sings "women will come, and they will go" at Lindsey at the 3:45 mark and he bows to her. Great stuff . One of my favorite songs
This concert contains more than a few good-natured and playful gestures and references by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham regarding their former personal and romantic relationships with each other. At 3:40, Stevie looks at Lindsey and approaches him whilst singing, in a good natured and deviated way, "Women, they will come and they will go." Lindsey, smiles and gives her a bow of acknowledgement -- and apparent encouragement to continue.
@exmusicascientia Yes I just love the way she looks directly at him and sings those lyrics - I think it is to stir up some drama and their issues in the past trying to get to him, and it really does get to him - but he takes it in a good way - but I'm pretty sure, underneath it all he was a little pissed.
with all their great songs this is the only one that become a #1 hit on billboard charts...
It is woven into the fragment of my life too, as it came out when i was 12...nice version...love how they still sounded so great together after all these years...
Amongst the GREATEST singer of all times, Incredible talent, live or recorded. Difficult to compete with genuine singers such as Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac
Brings back memories of my Dad who was huge Fleetwood Mac fan. This cassette was in his car stereo the day he died 8 years ago yesterday. RIP Dad July 27/41 - November 29/02. Never forgotten.
One of my fave songs driving late at night for some reason...The Dance cd is right there with all my other faves. Great band....always was and will be.
Many thanks CroNix99, been searching and searching for this version, love her little dig at Lindsay, "women they will come and they will go" Oh Stevie, teachin me new ways to be cruel, love her always

I wonder how come Stevie's voice sounds deeper and more scratchy today than what she sounded like in the 70s was it the drugs in the 80s?

@stargazerlily86 possibly. Plus, women's voices tend to get deeper with age.

The little electric acoustic he usually plays is a Rick Turner Model 1. And call him by his legendary name, Lindsey Buckingham!
