You can only change people who value learning. Ignorant people debate only for the intent of changing others, whereas intellectuals also intend to change themselves.
With that said, you cannot reason with a person who has a "fight or flight", primitive reaction to discussions. Stefbot made a great series called "the bomb in the brain", in which he argues that negative early childhood experiences can cause permanent brain damage, which makes people react primitively to conflict as adults.

If you are a woman, pretend to be in love with a US citizen / Legal Resident, deceive him to marry you. As soon as you got the marriage certificate dial 211 and falsely accuse him of Domestic Violence and Rape and move to a VAWA shelter.
You will be on a fast-track for a Green-Card and US citizenship - all expenses paid for by the US tax payer and as a bonus you will be getting full social benefits.

Arguments are a beautiful thing, it's when opinions are crossed w/ each other. The problem, however, is that most of the time one person doesn't really listen to the other and just keeps on pressing down their own opinion; even if the other person says something that's a fact (maybe they'll agree half-assed saying, "yeah yeah"). You don't need to convert them, all you have to do is to forward your message. They will form their own opinions and change a little at best.
1 in 100 don't possess the ability to empathise. They're called psychopaths. Search for Robert D Hare. Youtube user TheEarthEmperor has made a very interesting video on the topic.
Hey you know what, there is nothing wrong with standing up. It does get hard, I havent even made a video in well over a year that was serious, but regardless. And you CAN be both outspoken and happy at the same time, all you have to do is seperate yoru social/political views from your very personal life, and not stress yourself out on peoples ignorance. but if the radicals from the past didnt stand up, wed be even worse off now. hope your doing better now.
I am in contrast to your beliefs. I have almost totally changed my belief system but it was a long hard process in search of the truth. I had to put all biases aside, be as objective as possible. This is very difficult to step outside your self and examine why you believe what you believe. Taking all the subjective beliefs and replacing them with neutral objective ones is beyond what most people are willing or able to to do. There is great comfort believing a lie but truth is better.
You can change things. If you live your life the way you want to and you're a good person, the world gets better because of it.I think you're clear about what you want. Now maybe you need to find people who see what you see and move forward.
Empathy goes a long way to having a mind that's open to change. I always try to keep my mind open to change, because there is a reason that other people feel the way they do about issues.
Debate is usually the hardest way to change someones mind, because the human need to "win" kicks in during debate. Normally, it's something insignificant that causes someone to change their minds. For instance I used to be adamantly against gay marriage until I saw that Sandler flick, :Chuck and Larry"!
I have come to this conclusion around last year. There is no point debating about shit. Instead of being more empathetic, I have become more apathetic. It is easier to live life not giving a shit about what people or society thinks of you or your choices. We are all programmed from an early age to do certain things and I am currently in the process of deprogramming all of that shit and living my own life on my terms only.
hey fofie this is a good movie. you are a good person, and this rubs off on others. people change themselves in response to you, even when you can't make it happen directly.
you better not off yourself you hear me missy! i will be pissed!
I understand where you are coming from, but it's part of human psychology to "be right," therefore we will always argue our differences. A debate on youtube is one thing, but anything that invades someones physical space is another matter in my opinion. E.g someone can leave me a thousand hateful comments on youtube, I don't have to read them, but if someone physically assaults me over a difference of opinion, that's clearly a problem. So for me, it's a case of reaction more than anything.
Yeah, I agree. We would be a much better world if we had a little more empathy for our fellow humans.
I've recently come to the conclusion that I can't even change my own family's belief structure, and I'm getting over that. It's OK, they can't change mine either.
An interesting change of viewpoint but hopefully you would realize upon reflection that at 4:15 you are being condescending and that is one of the problems you are referring to.
I totally disagree that people can't have their minds changed. It can seem that way sometimes but I have changed my mind on some important things and I'm quite stubborn. The important thing is being able to admit you (the proverbial you) are wrong.
ppl can have their minds changed, its just important not to get too cought up with all the debating shiz because u end up forgetting to live life while u can. I mean, theres many things i feel strongly about , but looking at the inevitable decline of humanity just makes me realise, why give a shit...why not jst have a laugh
i dont know man . . . i didn't think it was that great at first, but once you get into it, its pretty sweet . . . some of the bosses are intense and there comes a point where you dont have to turn into a wolf anymore.
A debate only becomes pointless when one or both sides become too stubborn to keep an open mind and admit they are wrong as a result of pride. You CAN change someone as long as that person isn't arguing just for the sake of arguing, or to give their ego a boost.
As for people just accepting others for who they are, i don't see that ever happening. Being who you are will always come into conflict with who someone is. It's also hard to respect someone who wants you dead because of your lifestyle.
You're a liar or just terrible about self control...your smoking should have ended when that bush guy went back to Texas...and it sounds like you need to find Jesus...
haha :) Just giving you a bad time...we'll talk deeper thoughts later.
"I think that the world would be a better place if everybody just shut-the-fuck-up!" I simply loved the way that came out, made me chuckle. You've come to the same realization I have. I was pretty depressed, but it turns out that I was just looking at reality. You have to be slightly delusional to be a normal human being, and I carry no delusions with me, and that's probably my biggest problem. Everything sucks, you can't change it, and in the end, it doesn't fucking matter anyways. So hell, w/e
The point is not to change anyone, but to express an idea. The existence of the idea will be absorbed by some, and they will change themselves if they are willing. That is the nature of man.
I'm glad to see that you are ok and enlightened from your expeirence:) I agree with you and I too have empathy towards different beliefs and cultures. However, it bothers when people judge me and are not empathetic towards my lifestyle. Do you think we will ever develop a system world wide where individuals can live the way they want without being judgemental towrds eachother?
You should know you make a difference the second you see the results of your actions. Not all actions will reveal desirable results. That's life. Don't give up, but if you do......can I have your stuff?
Why argue? Because other people are watching and open to change. Also, your position of non-belief IS subject to falsification. If God revealed himself to you would you not change your position?
Please take note that the only way in which you as an individual cannot make a difference would be to remain completely absent. You make a difference, however minute that is. Be careful not to resign yourself to complacency and apathy.
You can only change people who value learning. Ignorant people debate only for the intent of changing others, whereas intellectuals also intend to change themselves.
