A smith machine half squat really isn't impressive bro. Start squating hams to calves WITHOUT weight to get the flexibility for deep squats. Then add 20kg bar and practice good deep squat form. Then add 10kg plates and go up from there. Take the smith machine out of your programme.

    6 x 45 = 270lb leg press not a 315lb squat

    You did make it look easy though. Squats are a great exercise because it incorporates so many parts of the body and a main reason is because you have to stabilize with other muscles. The Smith Machine as well as other machines eliminate the need to stabilize and allow you to simply push or pull.

  • First of all, you need to go a lot deeper for it to be considered a squat. You weren't even going to parallel. Right now you are doing quarter squats at best. Also, the cable assistance makes the bar weigh a lot less (15 lbs). So in total, six 45's in the Smith Machine actually only weighs 285.

    For future squats, do it in a power rack and not in the Smith Machine and go to at least parallel with the final goal being below parallel. That is an actual squat.

    Too hard to tell, but if that is a cable run smith machine, you dont have 315 there either, its 285 (they have 30lbs counterweight).

  • You need to be doubling the depth on those. Pad is weak, biggest thing is depth. You will be weaker at first but will gain strength in squats on a weekly basis if you are getting into a fully squated position.
