about dying at the lake...it was about River pulling the trigger, not about Smith dying. It took me a while to digest that. When she refused to kill him the universe freaked. It wasn't about the Dr, it was about River fulfilling her destiny. She had to pull the trigger. The Dr never died.

For people wondering about the numbers of regeneration...I cant remember the Doctor said it but its in one of the new series...he said that he can regenration as many times as he wants because the Timelords are not there to stop him....13 lives was a rules made by the Timelords so they couldnt be immortal...so when they reach their 13th regeneration they had to let themelf die o they would be killed by the other timelords

@Rose99991000 This is the lead-in to the episode. The Doctor blows up the ship before the episode starts or right at the beginning of the episode...then the actual Christmas story with Madge begins.

I'm pretty sure this short-lived "Christmas Invasion" scare is a nod to Davies' Christmas Specials, each of which were about aliens invading Earth during Christmas. I wouldn't even be surprised if he had an actual verbal reference to those episodes too...
