Have you considered writing a similar transcription on some of the best themes from Il Pirata? For years I've imagined how beautiful "Col sorriso" and other numbers from the opera would be on the piano.
I'm really not familiar with Il Pirata, but will look into it. I don't think either Liszt or Thalberg wrote paraphrases on it, so that rules out two of the usual sources of arrangements.
I don't think they did either. But Clara Schumann wrote an excellent Variations on the tenor aria "Ah non fia sempre odiata" from the second act, and Carulli wrote a fantasia for flute and guitar based, if I remember right, on the same theme. Giuliani, meanwhile, arranged the whole overture for solo guitar. I expect there must be some lesser known early 19th century pianists who did write fantasias and variations on it.
And Thalberg did write a fantasia on themes from La Straniera, so it's almost stranger that he didn't also write one on Il Pirata. In any case, the music is stupendous, so I think you could have fun with the project.
I was aware of the Thalberg La Straniera fantasia, but I didn't know about the Clara Schumann variations. It probably would be an interesting project, so I'll have a think about it.
This should be a very popular piece, especially with the Met having revived the opera in 2008-09 for Dessay and Florez -- gorgeous music gloriously sung in an execrable production. You have done a fine job to capture what are some of Bellini's loveliest tunes -- and he had a ton of them.
1:45 very good, could use Horowitz' (occasional) gossamer touch. Huge, Lisztian at 5:23. Particularly nice at 5:90, and some great scale-work. I try to do stuff like this on my Sohmer upright. You're quite ingenious and talented; guys like u really piss me off....BRAVO!
