I went to a concert a couple nights ago and I met one of the guitarists for one of the bands that played and when I told him my name was Marina he told me about this. Bless his soul <3
Was this a British or American TV show? I sure remember it (I am 56) and Fireball XL5, Diver Dan and Captain Kangaroo. Being in Canada, we got both US and UK TV programs, and a few of our own....
Oh Dear, I used to fancy Marina back then! I was in my defence, 9, but still . however I can admit to anything here and no-body know's who I am............or do they!!!? hee hee
i love this...thankyou so much for posting..i used to love watching this...shame they dont have innocent programmes like this anymore..i was 4 when this came out :-)
My father worked on this show in the mid 60's. Apparently , he said Aqua Marina was extremely demanding to work with, she insisted on freshly squeezed Bolivian goats milk before she went on stage.
Ms.Lois Maxwell is also remembered as"Ms.Moneypenny"in the "James Bond"movies and Mr.Robert Easton is remembered for playing hillbilly types on tv and in the movies.
I wanted to be Aqua Marina! My Dad used to make cinefilms of us as kids but we also had an episode of Stingray on celluloid- used to love watching it at home on the "big screen"
Not meaning to detract from the brilliance of this song or the series, bit does anyone else recognise the freshwater tropical fish in the, 'sea', behind scenes of Marina swimming? Guppies and Swordtails, I believe?
>>> JFredUK 1 week ago Not meaning to detract from the brilliance of this song or the series, bit does anyone else recognise the freshwater tropical fish in the, 'sea', behind scenes of Marina swimming? Guppies and Swordtails, I believe?
@SirTenTea The guy who made the show, Gerry Anderson, never wanted to make kids shows, so basically he made adult shows disguised as kids show. This is why they are still watchable and don't insult the kids intelligence or patronise them like modern kids shows do :-) Btw I was lucky enough to have met Gerry Anderson, great guy.
@SGGH12 – James Garner indeed. Well spotted, here's a pound. Apparently they tried to make the characters look a bit like famous actors of the day and Troy Tempest was modeled on him. There was even an article about it in TV21 once. P.W.O.R. etc...
@iamthepope You are correct. This song stands out because it is a rumba. Another rumba based song stands out in the british invasion by Unit 4+2 called "Concrete and clay.
@iamthepope You are correct. This as well as the other Gerry Anderson shows were some of my favorites in the 60's. I purchased the dvds of Stingray and Fireball XL 5 and Thunderbirds and the quality is fantastic. To hear the sound tracks over a good system is a real delight. This was and always will be one of my favorite songs. Incidently it's a rumba which predates another rumba based record by a group from the British invasion of the 60's called "Concrete and clay" by Unit 4+2.
I probably did hear lots of modern music in my early years because my parents' musical tastes are more balanced than mine - they like a bit of everything - but I must have forgotten it. I have a rather sharp memory for things that interest me (like these lovely melodies) but forget other things.
I know I heard all these when I was a little girl because I recognised them instantly when I heard them again as a teenager for the first time in years. I have no memory of modern music from my early years, and it seems to have left a permanent mark on my musical tastes.
I'm only eighteen and grew up in the 90s, but I really do feel as if I grew up in the 60s. In the first few years of my life, I would watch classic Disney films obsessively. Mum had a record player and I heard Morningtown Ride and Georgy Girl by The Seekers over and over again. Dad would watch Star Trek, Thunderbirds and later Star Wars on the cheap, simple little television set with my younger brother, and I heard this song many times at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Wow! Just hearing the song brings back wonderful memories. Loved the show. It seemed so real - even though lo tech by today's standards. Beauty in simplicity
I have this end track on a DVD and play it every day, nuts I know! but the musical composition, the great voice of Gary Miller together with mermaid type backing singers makes it very compulsive and very up lifting !!
What A song beautifully sung there are certian songs and tv shows that make you forget your age and problems and take you back to your carefree childhood

Would be fun if Stingray [ and Captain Scarlet perhaps ] where made into Live Action Films , but in the way that the 2004 Thunderbirds Film was , it was ok , but it felt sort of messed up for me .
A perfect song for an incredible TV series... Just seeing those end credits brings back all the emotions of being a TV21 kid again... oh, and no one could have performed it better than Gary Miller.
Even with today's computer generated animation, these "supermarionation" TV series' still seem quite unique and outstanding.
