I think that the Buddhism practiced in South East Asia and the Buddhist beliefs in the west has a huge gap. Western Buddhist more has a "belief system" whereas in Asia it is interwoven in a lifestyle. I get really confused when listening to western Buddhist and Asian Buddhists, it like they have different fundamentals.

Buddhism is a nontheistic religion. It means we do not talk about God. The reason is whether we believe in God or not is irrelevant.

"You believe in God? You can become a Buddhist."

"You don't believe in God? You can still become a Buddhist."

So do we believe in God? The real question is does it matter? The answer is no.

Buddhism teaching sounds similar to scientology the main point Buddha tried to show people was to think for urself on a critical level and u decide what you wish to believe in and come to your own various conclusions. Buddhism is only a discovery by Buddha. No pre-planned formula or any invention in Buddhism. Nibbana or Nirvana is the final pass away, not a place or a destination, to put an end to this trans-migration of all satient beings who are suffering in the process of life and death over and over. Buddhists are expected to approach every thought, claim and idea critically - The Buddha taught that even his own words and dharma shouldn't be taken for granted, let alone non-substantiated believes in god/creator/big sky daddy.

What he is really saying is that we are gods. Everything we need comes from within not outside. Wrong. The heart of man is desperately wicked in Gods eyes (Jer 17:9) What we really need is a saviour to put us in a right standing with God. His name is Jesus Christ.

Christian fundamentalism, has always promoted the idea that we are evil. We choose to do good or evil, not be cause we are predestined but because our nature is both. Take responsibility for yourself. The mind is the master and maker. If you do good, shine and teach others, if you do bad, it is because you choose to be bad. Not that you are evil or buddhist are evil but that man is evil. Men sin. God created us and he makes the rules. You have a sin nature like every man. You have sinned and you must recieve the wages for that sin. The wages of sin is death, but Jesus Christ became our sin sacrifice for all time all we have to do is make Him Lord of our life. The mind is not the maker or the master. The mind can easily be fooled. There is a way that seems right to man that leads to death. Jesus is the way of life.

@brk49er: Thats true, thats why Buddhism doesnt rely on a outside God to change us. But rely and take responsibilities from within us to change ourselves.. Buddhism doesnt rely on a saviour, but the tools we already have that are in our minds to change from within . There is a saying in buddhism: you can conquer 1000 battles but the best battles that are won comes from within, because no-one can take that away from you.

Agreed. Siddhartha himself said that he was merely a man, a teacher, and not to worship him as a divine being.

@lookatmepleasesir I don't think so. There is a text in which the Buddha says that, but it's a bit of a trickey translation that involves grammatical pun that you can't really do in English.

@GamerGuy320 I think youre right. Most Christians assume they know about Buddhism. But there isnt a God in buddhism and no dogma. You can basically take what you believe or discard anything you dont believe in these teachings. There is no guilt trip and from what I know Buddhism is the only teaching that says "dont just believe all the things I say, but test and experience it and see if it makes sense". Also , there is no hell to make you feel guilty, But the world is a learning experience.
