the easiest way to tell if a rolex is real or fake and I know because I use to be a criminal and roll rich guys that are drunk and leaving a bar or tavern this to look at the second hand the second hand on a fake rolex will tick and on a real rolex the second hand will sweep
seems like your step 2 should be the last step, because it's the most difficult and once you've seen the movement you can tell for sure whether or not it's real.
You cannot remove the back of the oyster case, Only a rolex service center have the case removal tool. So if they remove the back of an oyster its a fake.
People complain because they cant afford Rolexs. People like luxury. They dont buy them because they function better. They buy them because they're nice.
The best part in owning a Rolex instead of some other expensive watch is that quite a many will be guessing: Could it be fake? You will be able to drop the bomb: It is what it is, and it´s real. And if they challenge that, it just gets better.
I´m collecting vintage Breitling and Rolex watches and the best thing you can do when you bought a watch on ebay or something is go to an official Breitling or Rolex dealer. He can tell your watch is real or a real good fake ;)
I can't even afford to watch this video, let alone own a Rolex... Who needs tens of thousands of dollars watches anyway... Why not check the time on a normal watch and wear tens of thousands of dollars worth of actual jewels..
The easiest way to tell id you have a real Rolex is ask yourself whether you bought it for $100 for a seedy guy in the street for $5000 from a reputable jeweller.
This video is handy for when you have vain friend at work who claimto have the real deal. Cheers :P
Oh my GOD ! it's so hard to tell the real from the fake that we can just as well assume that FAKE=REAL. I'm gonna just go ahead and by a FAKE and call it REAL. Saves money.
you missed out the easiest sign. the magnification of the number. Rolex magnify the date by at least 2x. fakes usually have very little if any magnification on the date.
Why do Rolex owners care if nobody believes it's a real Rolex? If you really want to show off by wearing an expensive watch, get something that hasn't been copied a million times. If you're buying a Rolex because it's a good watch then you shouldn't care what other people think.
@themichaelnuckles rolex's surprisingly are the cheapest high quality watch company. an expensive watch can range from £100,000 to even a £1000,000. a standard rolex is 'only' about 9000
@themichaelnuckles i think more people like rolexs than swiss gears because when you see someone in a rolex watch the first thing you think is he must have a bit cash you dont quite get the same thought when you see a guy in a swiss gears watch its stupid i know a watch is a watch but people like other people to think there rich when they might not be lol
@TheStonerosesHQ I want a watch that would last, perform, and is cheap. I dont care what john boy down the street thinks of me. Besides, what if you lose it? 20k down the drain.
@themichaelnuckles because a rolex comes with the BEST quality, the BEST parts and is made by the BEST watch makers. My oyster perpetual datejust took 1 year to make and is now 41 years old (it was my dads). Its the reason people buy things of superlative quality.
@staffordacdc Ok, any watch can last 41 years if you take care of it. Also I wouldnt say Rolex has the best quality considering (once again) if i was to go scuba diving ill need a watch that can go to max of 120 feet. Not sure if Rolexs are waterproof and I dont want to find out. I could do more with a nice Swiss Gear watch, and I could have enough money left to buy a small car. Bottom line Swiss Gear = cheaper and more useful w/ great quality and i wouldnt be as mad if it fell into the ocean...
@themichaelnuckles Rolex are waterproof which is why the oyster perpetual range are milled from one block of solid stainless steel/gold/platinum. Yes many watches can last 41 years however my rolex which was bought for £1200 is now worth just shy of £7k....
Any Rolex that costs 20K or more is going to be partially gold (always 18K) and probably have diamonds, or it will be solid gold but with a leather strap. So that fact alone makes it valuable.
Also, the value in a Rolex is not just in the materials but in the craftsmanship. It takes over a year to make a single Rolex by hand, and if taken care of it will last for decades. Lastly, they hold their value extremely well. So it has a return.
@themichaelnuckles because a 20k car is not worth more than 5k in 10 years.
a watch (if you buy preowned), appreciates or maintains value over time. its an investment that doesnt depreciate like a car. also a $500 cannot be resold. nobody wants it.
@kristoafer You can buy antique cars and the value can increase. New cars lose their value right as you drive them off a lot. Besides why buy a fancy watch. When you could buy a car that has a fancy clock? Ummm no, a nice 500 dollar swiss gear dive watch could actually be resold on ebay for probally a little more than half of what you bought it for :P
i'm wearing it right now, its 21 jewels and says on the back "rolex LTD - 21 jewels- syncronous-waterproof" the face has no rolex name, just the crown just below the 12/24 hour mark, that is the only mark, however i have never myself removed the rear cover the watch band is dark brown leather. i had this cleaned ans lubed by a rolex dealer in boston and he said he never seen or heard of one made for the us army. and he's worked for rolex since 1962
i have my fathers 1942 us army issue rolex the face is a dull black with 12-24hr and the setting will let you set the time with the first click of the winder, the second click alows you to turn the second hand back i minuite for syncronizing , i dont believe that these us military issue rolex watches were available to the general public, .
Anyone that buys a real rolex is kind of dumb ...unless they aren't doing it for status. If they are only doing it for status then they are stupid LOL ...unfortunately, the watch is easily faked and thus makes real rolex watches useless for status. Spend your money on something more useful ...like a replica rolex and then put the money toward a nice yacht or a nice vehicle.
@X46RAPTOR, a while back (1973) when I was young and renting an apartment in Scottsdale, the apartment manager taught me a lesson about people like "you". I was in the office and this gentleman was providing information to the manager and when asked what vehicle the guy had he said a Mercedes. To that, the lady manger mockingly responded "Well Aren't We La-di-da". I can afford a rolex, but would never want to be like you ...referring to other people as fakes because you think you are better!
@X46RAPTOR WHO CARES, THE BEST PART IS THAT U BOUGHT THE REAL ONE AND MY FAKE ONE LOOKS SO REAL THAT THE PEOPLE AT ROLEX SHOWROOM SAID THAT THEY CANT SAY ITS A FAKE ONE, AND I JUST BOUGHT IT FOR 100 BUCKS.....AND UNLIKE U I CAN HAVE AS MANY ROLEX AS I WANT WITH DIFFERENT STYLES AT THE PRICE OF JUST ONE ROLEX OF URS.
@sameercid In certain environments you can't wear fake watches, if everybody has a real watch and one guy comes with a fake, people will just lose respect for him. If you can't afford a real one, certainly don't buy a fake to impress people from a "higher society" it's even better to not own one instead of a fake.
lol for got handstack order for GMT II (there were a few with proper handstack, but poor movements)... subdial spacing, no lug holes where there should be some, position of crown in relation to crown guards, shape of crown guards, color of handstack pin, height of lume (sometimes should be flat and is bulbous), the shape of the "10" on a submariner bezel insert is often wrong, pearl height and positioning, any misalignment in dial markers, see-through case backs. Be wary of ANY special editions.
The problem with Rolex is that some people don't even know they have a fake... they may even have a real one with a bunk movement... this is helpful for most. Really, the best thing about Rolex is that the movement is an instant giveaway. This is not the case for most other watches that use ETA or Valjoux or modded variations... here's a nice addition for you - gold solid end links - almost never right on a replica. Bad crown etchings, bad rehaut, uncentered pearl or lume, loose fit at lug end
he forgot a step Step 6 look for welds on the glass and the glass itself. Jewelers use silver to weld the watch together all fakes use copper which is alloy if you stick it under a magnifier glass you will see slag around the glass Silver is metal not an alloy. another way to spot a fake is the glass real Rolex are made of glass that comes from crushed gem stones. fakes the glass is made of window glass and the cyclops has poor resolution. NEVER BUY A ROLEX OFF THE STREET.
i know its against the law to sell them but is it aginst the law to own a replica rolex? i would try to save up for the real one but it would take me 500,000 years because the one i want costs $2.4million.
@sirajkasai dude it is a ladies Datejust, looks like the 26mm, it is COSC certified, jubilee bracelet, sapphire crystal, diamond set dial, 18K yellow gold (solid), self-winding (not sure of the movement on ladies' models), and I can't tell from the pic but it looks like either a silver dial or MOP... the dial and bezel look aftermarket to me but could be wrong (not used to looking at ladies watches). it is hard to tell from the pic but I would guess this is a late-70s/early-80s model. HAPPY?
another way to tell a fake, is to look at the second hand. if its ticking, its fake. it should be gliding smoothly. a rollex ALWAYS has a gliding second. i own 7 Rolex's, and many other high dollar watches, and i used to own a Rolls Royce Phantom and i was not a pimp. And, a phantom cost $450,887.
At :41 and : 43 are the worst seen copy of an explorer. When you see the price reached by an double red sea dweller, i can tell you you won't see if the dial is original or not. Fake watches are for fake people, lot of good watches, vintage swiss, for 800 eur. If you want a rolex, go to a serious dealer or check an antiquorum auction. Thanks for the stills.
I have no idea what you're talking about with point 2. Visuals (other than a watch shown diagonally in the inside of left hand at the base of the fingers over and over again) would've helped.
@Chaaaaar11 if you were a millionaire cars, nails and kid worries are non exsistent. Dont be to cool for school. If you didnt spend the 5k on a watch you would spend it on a ring... which is utterly useless.
yeah... like Im gonna let anyone look at my Rolex that closely... (weither it b real or not) and of course you say it's real. Insurance will PAY for a REAL Rolex (assuming it gets stolen from your house/car)
so the other day i had my friends over and we went onto the xbox and he wanted to play black ops so we did so, then my bro came home and we were playing the xbox, and my bro is always like if he comes home whatever he wants is his, so he would then play on the xbox with me and my friend and i dont like that since it often ends in my friend talking more to my bro then me. so i say we go downstairs on the computer, he doesent come cause he says it is "cold" is my friend mean or me lame?
Archie. Surely one of the greatest and immediately obvious difference between a genuine and a fake Rolex (or Tudor) is the action of the seconds hand? A genuine should sweep smoothly, whereas a fake 'ticks'. No?
you mean i have enough money to buy an expensive ass watch but i have to "learn to live with" people asking if its real? well that just ruind my life im going to quit my job and drop out of school. sucess is not worth that kind of burden.
I just ask the guy on the corner in the trenchcoat that I am buying it from. I have picked up lots of good ones for $50 to $100. lol Thx for the info, I would never buy one without a professional looking at it but this info really helps to weed out fakes before going through the time & effort to have it checked out.
I have no problem with buying a replica...In my opinion I can not justify spending 5,000+ on a watch.
The best watch i have ever owned is an $18 Amitron from Walmart. It survived 4 years in the Army with me...It has been to war and 3 JRTC rotations. Personally I could care less about the name I just like the styles. And when i can pay $70 for a watch with a nice style...well that is what i did and it looks and feels great. no problems with it in over a year.
If it seems too good to be true, well, you know the rest. Resale value is so high, just go buy a new one at a brick and motar autherized dealer. Fakes are getting better all the time so you need an expert if you are not and expert.
all this information is useless. It's not practical to even remember all of this. You would simply have to take the watch to a rolex dealer and let them tell you if it is real or fake, and you would have to pay for it. period. The cost of this is typically $100 to $200, or MORE!
Why is owning a fake so negative? Save thousands of dollars and make EXACTLY the same impression. What? Is someone going to ask, at a party or someplace, to see the movement and verify it as real?
@synthuser the idea is that fakes are spreading so much, to the point that if you are in a party and people know you cant afford a Rolex, everybody will Know its a fake.
One easy way to start to tell if a Rolex is real is, Hold it face up in your hand firmly, then with the face pointing up rotate your hand in a clockwise or counter clockwise motion and then stop. If there is movement like a bearing tightly moving after you stop, then take a little intrest.
the eastiest way to tell if a rolex is fake it the way the second hand is movieng if it ticks its fake if it just keeps going in circles with out stoping in a single tick then its real
That's not at all true. Not all of Rolex's watches have the sweeping movement. I have a 1968 Rolex GMT Master. It ticks eight times in one second. The only way to tell is by opening them up.
just buy it new from rolex instead of of trying to keep up with the jones with second hand, if you cant afford it new , then you cant keep up (with the jones that is)
clone 1:1 movt, dial and bezel usd250, just need to look for the right dealer, they cant even tell the difference at the rolex store. You need to do your homework if you wanna get one of this.
@worellanab I know where you are talking about as I frequent RG and RWI myself, but the watches don't usually pass the gen test when you are in a store because they still have flaws. Even assuming you get a black Submariner, or one of the DSSDs that are so common now with a Clone 3115 movement there are still tells. Rehaut depth, bezel alignment, crown guards, crown stem and tube, lume, the R O L E X + serial printing on the rehaut, the fact that 316F stainless doesn't have luster of 904L
I like the advice you gave but i wouldent buy a rolex for any reason i have been wearing Armitron my hole life and i love tat brand especialy there new skeleton automatic watch why pay $7,000 plus for a watch when you can buy a good used car for that price
was on holiday in egypt and a local 'jeweller' tried to sell the wife and I matching oysters. He passed me one, it needed a wind so i gave it a good swirl and a shake...
Hey presto!!! the f*cking hands and numerals fell off. Hilarious. Epic fail.
Excellent advice! Very detailed, more than most that just tell you the second hand should sweep! Recently fakes have been so detailed, and hard to tell from real.
To truly be sure, bring it to a certified watchmaker or Rolex authorized repair center!
Rolex watches are fine. However they are not the ONLY high quality Swiss watch maker. They are but one of many, and not all of them are exorbitantly expensive. I happen to like watches that have automatic movements, sapphire crystals, and a display back. An attractive watch like this with a quality ETA movement can easily be had for less than $500.
I bought it out of curiosity due to its external perfection. I've compared it to my 1995 DateJust and without knowing which-is-which, could not tell the difference.
The thing made me certain that there are a lot of people out there who are buying fake as real. No doubt! Don't confuse fake with cheap... some of these copies are high-end watches on their own, and would fetch high prices even without the Rolex forgery.
I've seen cheap Rolex copies a rookie could spot across the table. I've seen at least one in stainless steel that was impossible to discern without removing the back and examining the movement. It was accurate down to the hack, cyclops, dial detail, date change precisely at midnight and a 8 beats-per-second beat - apparent by the second hand movement. Matter of fact - I bought that watch even though I own 3 genuine Rolexes. Inside is high-grade Chinese movement made by Seagull.
Honestly, this video is a little to much of the bloody obvious. But the best part is 99% of you idiots claiming to know the difference between a fake and a real Rolex. Fakes are fakes, subtle differences are always there. People making claims about the smoothness of the ticking or the second hand are idiots, automatic movements have a smooth sweeping second hand, quarts movements tick, fakes have a number of different quality ETA movements, some have real movements added too.
The reality is this,if you handle allot of luxury time pieces, such as Rolex, you start to see the fit and finish, quality of steel finishing, plus Rolex hasn't made a gold plated (filled) watch since the early 60's. The overall quality of printing and metal stamping, down to the edges of the case and bracelet gives it away, the sure proof way to check the movement is simple, check how it the quick set functions, also list to the self winding when shaking the watch, Rolex is unique in sound.
the second hand is how to tell areal rolex from fake plus the sound of the movment the reall one sound quaite from the fake and the movement is smother and the feel of the watch it self
also worth noting, if you buy a rolex, its always nice to have the box, outer box, papers, booklet and tags, the more history you have with the watch the more likely its genuine and it is also worth more. So dont throw them away!
I like th video but not one tip helped me,
Burn notice - inner components are smaller than what they should be
Pawn stars - It has plastic in it
sigh - the rolex my brother bought overseas and gave me is fake (both of these are true, everything else is well replicated)
Anyone want to buy a real looking fake rolex for $40 (ROFL, just kidding) ?

If you can't afford a real one, certainly don't buy a fake to impress people from a "higher society" it's even better to not own one instead of a fake.
1MoneyTalks 5 months ago
@1MoneyTalks yeah but they 1st have to catch the fake one, if they would be able to catch the difference

lol for got handstack order for GMT II (there were a few with proper handstack, but poor movements)... subdial spacing, no lug holes where there should be some, position of crown in relation to crown guards, shape of crown guards, color of handstack pin, height of lume (sometimes should be flat and is bulbous), the shape of the "10" on a submariner bezel insert is often wrong, pearl height and positioning, any misalignment in dial markers, see-through case backs. Be wary of ANY special editions.
johntetzel 7 months ago
The problem with Rolex is that some people don't even know they have a fake... they may even have a real one with a bunk movement... this is helpful for most. Really, the best thing about Rolex is that the movement is an instant giveaway. This is not the case for most other watches that use ETA or Valjoux or modded variations... here's a nice addition for you - gold solid end links - almost never right on a replica. Bad crown etchings, bad rehaut, uncentered pearl or lume, loose fit at lug end
johntetzel 7 months ago
$2.4 million for a watch? I just look where the sun is. This keeps me in tune with my lat and long and the seasons. Who's the fool now?
tackN2Wind 7 months ago
he forgot a step Step 6 look for welds on the glass and the glass itself. NEVER BUY A ROLEX OFF THE STREET.

i know its against the law to sell them but is it aginst the law to own a replica rolex? i would try to save up for the real one but it would take me 500,000 years because the one i want costs $2.4million.

sirajkasai 7 months ago

Fakes are getting better all the time so you need an expert if you are not and expert.
pef286 1 year ago
all this information is useless.

What? Is someone going to ask, at a party or someplace, to see the movement and verify it as real?
synthuser 1 year ago
@synthuser the idea is that fakes are spreading so much, to the point that if you are in a party and people know you cant afford a Rolex, everybody will Know its a fake.

One easy way to start to tell if a Rolex is real is, Hold it face up in your hand firmly, then with the face pointing up rotate your hand in a clockwise or counter clockwise motion and then stop. If there is movement like a bearing tightly moving after you stop, then take a little intrest.

skatergirl4life5 1 year ago
@skatergirl4life5
That's not at all true. Not all of Rolex's watches have the sweeping movement. I have a 1968 Rolex GMT Master. It ticks eight times in one second. The only way to tell is by opening them up.

clone 1:1 movt, dial and bezel usd250, just need to look for the right dealer, they cant even tell the difference at the rolex store. You need to do your homework if you wanna get one of this.
worellanab 1 year ago
@worellanab I know where you are talking about as I frequent RG and RWI myself, but the watches don't usually pass the gen test when you are in a store because they still have flaws. Even assuming you get a black Submariner, or one of the DSSDs that are so common now with a Clone 3115 movement there are still tells. Rehaut depth, bezel alignment, crown guards, crown stem and tube, lume, the R O L E X + serial printing on the rehaut, the fact that 316F stainless doesn't have luster of 904L

Rolex watches are fine. However they are not the ONLY high quality Swiss watch maker. They are but one of many, and not all of them are exorbitantly expensive. I happen to like watches that have automatic movements, sapphire crystals, and a display back. An attractive watch like this with a quality ETA movement can easily be had for less than $500.

mikee1333 1 year ago
I bought it out of curiosity due to its external perfection. I've compared it to my 1995 DateJust and without knowing which-is-which, could not tell the difference.
The thing made me certain that there are a lot of people out there who are buying fake as real. No doubt! Don't confuse fake with cheap... some of these copies are high-end watches on their own, and would fetch high prices even without the Rolex forgery.
mnpd007 1 year ago

People making claims about the smoothness of the ticking or the second hand are idiots, automatic movements have a smooth sweeping second hand, quarts movements tick, fakes have a number of different quality ETA movements, some have real movements added too.
simonenglish1 1 year ago
The reality is this,if you handle allot of luxury time pieces, such as Rolex, you start to see the fit and finish, quality of steel finishing, plus Rolex hasn't made a gold plated (filled) watch since the early 60's. The overall quality of printing and metal stamping, down to the edges of the case and bracelet gives it away, the sure proof way to check the movement is simple, check how it the quick set functions, also list to the self winding when shaking the watch, Rolex is unique in sound.
simonenglish1 1 year ago
the second hand is how to tell areal rolex from fake plus the sound of the movment the reall one sound quaite from the fake and the movement is smother and the feel of the watch it self
