  • T.AL , BRILL SONG TOWARDS DA BRITS...T.A.L

  • oops , soory for da bursting of the channel..lol

  • Paul Brady , a brill song-writer and Musician...And of course an Irish-man and supporter of the republican Movement, Class- vid , UPPA RA, and a happy new -year from Billy-Reid..,.,T.A.L

  • Im a songwriter as well, we need those sad songs of loyalists killin catholics , Thank god for the "RA"

  • Crack is Back,!!! "Ahem, I thought u never went away ...hehehe", hows it goin me bold auld muscle !!, hows ur mam keepin , i know ur dad died , so dont take me as a snotty nose kid waiting for a Tissue, Happy New Year to u and urs ...!!!

  • Easy for Brady to sing it. People who lived in those times have a different view. Brady fecked-off to London and pontificated about peace from a safe distance. Good song, but I don't believe him.

  • @montpelier42d I'm pretty sure such an amazing song could not have written without there being an element of personal truth behind its genius.

  • No more beautiful anti-political anti-violence song/poem has been penned.. the man is a blessing..

  • AMAZING! GOES STRAIGHT TO THE HEART!

  • "The Island" - wrong spelling, brilliant song

  • Beautiful song. Thank you for posting

  • this is a true love song,, love of the Human Race...

  • Listen to the words people and forget about your own point of view. We all have one

  • This song always has me in tears.

  • such a beautiful song as a proud ulster man from the shankill road, this song has taught me to stop feeling bitter and secterian and take people as i find them, and no matter were you go north or south it's beutiful island full of friendly people, the last thing I want is a united ireland which i feel it's what this song is aiming for but hey who cares deano lol 1862

  • @TheDean180

    Hey Deano,,,,,,respect cousin!!!! stay lucky,,,

    southern tim,,,

  • @TheDean180 I don't think it's about a united ireland, i think it's purely anti violence which we can all appreciate. Nice message otherwise though.

  • song says so much so true, paul bradys animal love him

  • Ireland un-free shall never be at peace , dis is wat da song speaks ....nice up-loading , thankin ya for da time .

  • @SEAJEA6560 You couldnt be more wrong, this song is about whether its a united or a north south ireland is irrelevant, we are missing the human suffering that both causes are inflicting on both sides.

As he said is the twisted wreakage down on mainstreet going to get us to freedom? It is a beautiful song about how we ruin others lives with what we percieve to be right.

  • @lelylandsklar , of course its all about war !!, its da same as afghanistan , iraq , and tim-buck -fuckin too, like !!!, who needs war to solve der rights !!, children and women have been bombed all over da world , and dat der is suppose to be for peace , from UK, and Da States , hes talkin about dem all..its called "Freedom". Ta for da post!!

  • nice wonderful song

  • timeless.

  • @mertz123 always will be

  • He looks like Brick-Top

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Beautiful!!!

  • @HorusBredevoort : yes, but very bitter lyrics.

  • Beautiful song!

  • Those young rascals in Belfast still haven't understood in 2011 what Paul Brady was singing about some twentyfive years ago. Please love thy neighbour and love your beautiful country, be it Northern Ireland or the republic. You live in paradise; please don't turn it into hell again!

  • those young boys dying in the ditches says it all for me what a waste of life for green fields

  • Celtic Thunder brought this song to my attention, sorry Paul, Im an expat in Spain but I love Irish music, but this one slipped through the net. A wonderfully worded song with a unique melody. Well done, it deserves recognition.

  • Nice

  • Perfection musicale. Thanks Paul

  • A lot of racist bile from Irish folks on here

  • FANTASTIC SONG!!

  • Northern Ireland would still choose to be Brits- Why

  • ...amazing...

  • i love the way paul is a fantastic guitarist as well as singer and songwriter. a rare combination of talents!

  • This song puts me to sleep every night. It reminds me of bad times and bad people from my time in northern ireland, iraq and afghanistan and then out of nowhere someone amazing comes into your life. Perfection.

  • @gary384 This is one of the sweetest comments I have red here by this beautiful song.

  • Superb.

First saw PB @The irish Centre in Leeds, UK, many years ago. He was great then & has been great every time I have seen him since.

He is the man about whom Bob Dylan said: "He is the one songwriter worth getting out of bed to listen to."

Praise indeed from the Maestro himself!

  • brillant brillant

  • I'm 21 years of age, straight male, i'm listenin to this cryin thinkin of the shit that goes on in the world, Paul, probably don't see this, but it'd honor me if you came to play in Wexford !

  • @Wexicanful it was never meant to be a sad song, it was never his intention listen more carefully

  • "Turn your back on your own." Ironic how that could be taken in Lybia today. I get that I'm probably taking that out of text but it still applies. :( / I never have heard of him until today. Wonderful and I don't care if my housework doesn't get done. I'm sitting here until I've heard everything he's done on YT. Thanks Inde for sharing. :)

  • how come yer man knew mairead was out of prison

  • Paul Brady is saying that he is not interested in the Irish conflict; he simply wants to fuck someone on a beach.

  • A brilliant song love it!

  • gosh i missed my father...

  • missing home......thank you Paul.......proud to be Irish and hopefully I can go back home something soon....

  • just staggeringly gorgeous

  • I became aware of his music working at The Irish Pub in Tampa. Songs and Crazy Dreams was the cd, surely the most inspirational and brilliant work of genius that my ears will ever enjoy. All other recordings pale in comparison. But hey, that's just me....

  • Reading some of these bitter comments about a lump of turf we're only gonna be on for 80 odd years, it's hard to believe that we're in the 21st century, the time of enlightenment and maturity for mankind!

  • why did ye have to ruin a savage song talking shite about politics which ye dont have a clue about

  • Paul Brady played no part in the heroic People’s Democracy at Queen’s University, Belfast. In this song he makes comment on the N.Ireland, an issue he carefully avoided when he was a student at Queens. When other students, such a Michael Farrell and Bernadette McAliskey, put their necks on the line, Paul Brady hide in his room. Paul Brady’s ‘Island’ is about himself – a self-regarding, anal-retentive, navel-gazing pompous shite. He never had the guts to act on what he sings.

  • @montpelier42d although i except that you know what your talking about, why cant you take a song for a song and not what the writer was involved in when writing it? it's a great song (melodicaly and lyricaly) whatever way you look at it.

  • @montpelier42d

Don't be silly. Not everybody goes out on the front line and God bless those who do for their courage. But it is the artists' job to make the people aware of what is going on through his/her art. And this Paul Brady does admirably with this sad and beautiful song. Often these types of songs drive the people on to the streets. So don't knock our artists please, we need them just as much as the soldiers.

  • @MABMCC The job of the artist is not to ‘make people aware of what is going on’ I can understand why people like the song: beautiful melody, and who could disagree with his message of pacifism? Only those, perhaps, who were ineluctably engaged in the reality of the conflict. Other Irish artists, such as Seamus Heaney, Brian Friel and Thomas Kinsella, et al, wrote about the conflict in honest, meaningful and inspiring ways. Perhaps because they had no interest in selling pop records.

  • @montpelier42d I thought he went to UCD in Dublin!

  • @montpelier42d I thought he went to UCD in Dublin!

  • the rope is getting longer ha ha...

  • 17 people are terrorists

  • Irish sons and daughters are still here to fight brit oppression , fuck all yous cunts dat ran to dat island ...Eh

  • @SEAJEA6560 What a stupid ignorant little shit you are.

  • To be free is to ave peace , Im proud to be irish , and rightly so , we will fight and defend our land from "Nasties", Paul brady is a magic Musician from da land of "Eire", he has heard it all before , Da promises , etc, So stand up and fight for ur rights, or run away to an island dats free...End of ..T.A.L

  • Da Ra hasnt gone away ya know Kaybannon, ok dey were stopped on tues night , so ur point ur tryin to make ??, IRELAND-UNFREE shall never be at peace

  • @SEAJEA6560 Actually, Irelands peace has nothing do with being 'FREE' or 'UNFREE'. When we get rid of the idiot mentality from retards like you we'll be at peace. When is it going to sink in....? YOU (and your terrorist/criminal friends) ARE NOT WANTED!

A Nation is defined by it's people. The people of Ireland do not want this 'war'. But idiots like you do... therefore, you should not consider yourself Irish. You are of some kind of 'Non-Irish' person.

  • This song just makes me cry. It is so beautiful.

  • the lyrics always fits, no matter what nation or what time (sry for my bad english, i'm german)

  • @TheSitara Very true, it can be applied to so many places and so many scenarios. The futility of war... It's sad that so many people leaving comments on this video miss the point though.

  • A song more true with every listening...

  • my mam loved this tune she died 02/12/2005such a lady she was dolores O'Rourke r.i.p never 4get u mam never

  • @77tjmurphy Im sure she is in a far better island now my friend.Think not of how she died rather remember how she lived and you will meet her there again when its time,,,chin up :D

  • EH cjrmd prick!!! What about the GERMANS!!! We may have committed crimes in the past!! What about the fact you bombed the British mainland while we were fighting the Germans!! If we had not stood up to a greater power you would be speaking GERMAN now!!! Mind you< you lot would probably prefer that!!! NOW get off your perch and grow up!! Why dont you go and bomb China, if feel strong enough about human rights!! Enough said

  • Lov when he sings about da war wit da brits ...Uppa RA ..Paul.

  • @SEAJEA6560

where's the RA now?? why are the not bombing Gov Buildings???????????????

  • ledgend!

  • Just a brilliant song

  • This song is so beautiful and powerful ! It's always the same old story, innocent blood is still flowing all over the world to feed political and economical interests !!! how long will it last ?

  • @JOSSELINCARLIER

    ''how long will it last''?

As long as human beings want to be better than their neighbours.

  • @smrndoff As long as Northern Ireland is occupied by the Brits.

  • @Smoke4Freedom If every town in N. Ireland independently voted whether to join Ireland then wouldn't that be a fair and peacful way for every community to individually choose what they want?

  • @Smoke4Freedom Brits should let them get on with it............

  • @Smoke4Freedom Thats what Northern Ireland want .......... Why who knows

Ireland should be Ireland the Brits are not interested Its Irish fighting Irish Why

  • @nanny999999 My ideal would be the whole British Isles; Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Britain, Cornwall, N. Ireland etc. as autonomous yet united governments under a united Celtic tanist society where everyone speaks a universal gealic, no one gives a crap about whose land's whose, where there ain't any armies or capitalist threat... something like that but pretty damn far fetched that is.

  • Your an Idealist, I like that. And I too would like to live in a world where we all get along and sing "kum by ya" around the campfire while the sun sets, but you know that can't happen, nor has it ever happened anywhere. The reason is an equation. (British=Dicks) Which is something we don't stop to think about much, but this is a people who formed SEVERAL countries by raping them until they couldn't take anymore. And for the Irish to forget that, would be blacks to forgeting slavery. NOPE

  • @loismustdie475 Haha, I live in England atm (by accident, lol). The rudest, worst mannered people in England are the English themselves! All foreigners have been very polite, the blacks are the most polite British-born here.

How different, and better, the world could have been if English culture hadn't been shat all over it. India, would have been amazingly different, Ireland too, imagine seeing N. America run under the Native American customs rather than some twisted ex-Brit idealogies.

  • @Smoke4Freedom How can you live there by accident????!!By the way, North America was shat on by the French and Spanish also,to name a few.

  • @hollywilo Yep, native americans had it hard, i feel so bad, they should be given back a big chunk of each Nrth. American state so they can all develop their cultures and languages again rather than being stuck on those dead soil reservations, those places are proper ghettos. Sad.

I went over to take care of family, ,was ill, spent all my money, one thing led to another. Havent been able to get back since. Plus dont have anywhere to move back to nor any chance of work if I do.

  • @loismustdie475 'Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it', let us not forget. White people say move on, you wouldn't say that to a Jew, eh?

  • @Smoke4Freedom

People from Northern Ireland are more British than the English - they dont want to be Irish how strange -Let them get on with it

  • @nanny999999

What? that's a pretty fucking stupid thing to say! people who know as little as you should not be permitted to write on youtube.

  • Paul Brady Crazy Dreams Great Music

  • @ jethro081 The democratic will of the people the last and only time the island of Ireland voted democraticly was 1919 when they voted for total independence, the slaughter started and continued after that by a country unwilling to remove its illegal occupation beidh ar lá linn.

  • here i am

  • I hate the occupation of Ireland any many countries by evil empires there will always be sarcrafice for freedom

  • @monaghaned what is freedom? what does it look like? what will it change? im genuinely interested, please enlighten me as to what is worth the slaughter and the destruction of the troubles.

  • The song is universal; not just about "the troubles" in Ireland, but about the waste, cruelty, and inhumanity of all violent conflict. The same can be said of any soldier dying today for twisted, hardly traceable reasons caused by others who are never in the trenches....

  • @cameramanAL

have u actually listened to or read the lyrics to this song??! how has it got nothing to do with troubles in this country or any other?? ur missing the whole point. its from the outsiders perspective of any war or troubles. he's not trying to make you hate anyone, its a beautiful song.

  • Comment removed

  • @angel939x Did you mean to direct that post at me? If you did you've either read my post wrong or misinterpreted what I was trying say: I was agreeing with the point that this song was making, I definitely wasn't trying to suggest that it was making me hate anyone.

If I remember correctly my post on this vid was in four parts, the part voted to the top there was the 3rd I think. The rest are on here somewhere, read them and you'll see what I mean.

  • @angel939x you ask "how has it got nothing to do with troubles in this country or any other??"

I'm sorry but I didn't say anything like that at all, I said the exact opposite in fact.

  • Another one of my most favourite songs from Irish artists..... relaxing and dreamy :)

  • always loved this ...great song well sung !!

  • In writing this song, Brady was totally missing the truth about 'the troubles'

  • @seosamh1921

he wasnt singing about who started what or who did what to who, he was more aiming at how fruitless the whole situation is. it is supposed to show that the most basic aspects of life, such as getting a girl/falling in love were/are tainted by the troubles. last verse talking about freedom-supposed to make you think about wether or not the methods used to achieve freedom really bring it, or just changing from one brute a thousand miles away to a thousand brutes 1 mile away.

  • @darragh84

he still missed the reality of the situation, as the vast majority do. The British government actively prolonged the 'troubles' because it served their interests. The British government was the aggressor, justice and right was on the side of the IRA, as is usually the case in such struggles.

  • @seosamh1921

we all know that.. thats not the point he was making though. dont get me wrong im a republican, i agree with what your saying, but it you have to separate england's wrongdoings from Ireland's wrongdoings to understand this song.. its a song about an average guy who just wants to live a normal life

  • @seosamh1921

Yes it's always just and right to shoot people in the back and blow up children. At least that's the philosophy of the IRA scumbags; just like the Taliban!

  • @regdavies

You're misinformed. British soldiers, specifically the SAS, were responsible for the random sectarian killings in Belfast, and the bombings that killed civilians. Why would even consider anything coming from the British government as trustworthy?

  • @regdavies yeah and it's allright for brit's to shoot innocent derry civilians with rubber and live bullet's.The irish never did anything to the brit's just cause we were a smaller country i dont see them going against country's that's bigger then them. All Hail the I.R.A.

  • Beautiful.

    Absolutely beautiful.

    Greatest anti-war song ever.

  • amazing

  • Listen ballbeg I grew up in the middle of this an done my bit but it's over you knob now grow up and don't mess it up for are kids

  • just a beautiful song

  • just a beautiful song.

  • People used to talk about Northern Ireland and the Middle East in the same breath - just two problems that can never be solved - but the Irish found a way to peace. I think the world is only now starting to realize that this war really is over now. That must provide hope and inspiration to those around the world who are willing, after so many failed attempts, to push for peace one more time. Well done, my Irish cousins.

  • dem orange cunts robbed our fore fathers of thier lives so how can u say dat? jus look at poor bobby just t mention one.. read ur history... nothing good came out of englang... jus watch brave haerth.... who ar u?

  • I'm an Irish catholic an yes you come across like you have a chip on your shoulder wise up and get on with life

  • I love this song. It reminds me of happy times!

  • The look Mr. Brady gives at the end....I hear the unspoken words.

  • heard this on the radio today .and just had to have another listen .beautiful lyrics and melody

  • Paul have you heard keith Harkin of the Celtic Thunder sing your song? You wouldn;' be disappointed.... loved it Judi

  • Like usual, you all are making it about your troubles. Stop using this video as a place to post your differences. And just enjoy the music purely and simply like it was intended.

  • one of the greatest songs ever

  • I wish we would have the same perspective in America: Christians vs. Muslims.

  • excellent performance!

  • A friend of a friend told me about this song.

    Totally awesome :D

  • Paul .. your dimples are looking as good as ever.. thank you!

  • Sadly how much has changed since this was first created? How much is still the same?

  • great song

  • If this song does not pull at your heart and make you stop then you will never see the issues with the world. Learn from the past, and we shall create a greater future. I find myself paused in movement, the moment I hear the starting bars of this song.

  • Beautiful and poignant!

  • ya let me down byrne!!bigtime!

  • Yeah the words still resonate, thank god we are in a better place.

  • brilliant..

  • great performance

  • I am from cork too, fuck the subject.....

I know this song a long time....

I can't believe it has only had 230,000 views....

...no way our holy flag is gonna fall..

    Bobby Sands R.I.P.

  • In 2010 this song still resonates.

  • the year was 1985 and here we are here and yes we sacrafice our children to emagration , as have past generations for wars, for freedom ,have we learned nothing, we tightened our belts charlie haughey, now we pay for greece , the cycle comes around again, all we have is the sound of the ocean , eternity and love

  • One of the finest songs written about this subject ever!

  • i know dis one cool corcaigh lol

  • Stop arguing.. we're all one. Its about the music.. and this song amazing. ENd off.

  • A better version of this song is by Celtic Thunder

  • Its not even close. This guy is fantastic. Keiths version is nice, if you like the boyband thing, brady is outstanding. Nobody else can do this or any other song he wrote or rewrote justice.

  • Lezmitchell you say we should leave the past in the past and yet you refer to it as "LONDONDERRY",......... Jog on will ya,its DERRY.........

  • Lezmitchell,u said leave the past in the past and yet you still refer to it as "LONDONDERRY"...............Jog on will ya!! its Derry.........

  • Absolute genius. I love this song and Paul Brady.

  • Paul's actually not from Londonderry he's from Strabane.....never the less its a pretty amazing and poignant song. He sings bout people "sacrificing our children to feed the worn out dreams of yesterday" .......people need to leave the past in the past and all of us move on together.

  • Shove it up your London derriere.

  • i got shivers up my spine listening to this, i'm from the same city as paul and to have such a musician coming from derry makes me very proud

  • Powerful lyrics. "up here we sacrifice our children..." Thank god those days are gone. Éireann abú.

  • Comment removed

  • These lyrics apply to any war! What abut the women and children still dying in the streets today in the middle east.

  • alright buddy. I'm just talking about the war in my country. I don't need to be told what i already know about the rest of the world. calm down.

  • @Frankieireland Yeah I remember when this song was released, It really struck a cord at the time and still resonates today. Thank god we are in a better place, There is no place like home.

  • Peace and Love win in our hearts freedom is there. We need this song to acknowledge the trajic losses of all the years on all the sides, to save our children from our hateful pasts. Thank you Paul Brady from the bottom and whole of my heart. The Bloodied White Flag on a civilian street should never have happened.

  • Worth listening to this one once in a while to remember the bitterness (in every sense) of our recent past and just why all the compromises of the last decade are worth it.

  • My Favourite Paul Brady Song

  • exceptional ?

  • One of the most beautiful ballad songs I'v ever heard..please don't tell me it's not a.....beautiful song

  • At the end of the day it came down to feeing your family or starving. Eitherway we should be proud of them, if it wasnt for the Irish,Welsh, Scottish, Indians and many more were would all be goose stepping from Belfast to Cork. 200 years history is nothing when you look forward into the hell that could have been!

  • Paul is truely a gifted composer the ordinary guy on the street gets the massage ..its a pity the politicians dont

  • An t-amhrán is álainn ar an domhan domsa. Cuireann sé brón agus trua orm, ach dóchas freisin. Agus sea, is an íomhá é Martin McGuinness!!!!

  • just enjoy the music, the quiet reflective passion give
