  • @apexironworks Trash ain't free once it gets to the Dump, those my metal hunks of junk Son. And You aren't "rrreeee-addapptin" nothin'.

  • Very cool! I know some people who would love to have some of those machines.

  • What about my remote control lawn mowers?

  • where does all the gas come from?

  • these guys are gonna be the ones to rebuild the world after WW3

  • that is dumb

  • @petruskolar es de lomejor

  • It's maybe the most sci-fi real life sh*t I've ever seen in years! Nice!

  • This is dumb, just teach them to grow weed and they'll never have to worry again. They'll be to high to notice us stealing their resources.

  • Why does the guys voice sound so damn wimpy?

  • hmmm.... with all the used and obsolete machines, tractors, riding mowers, etc, just piled up and sitting around waiting to be scrapped, why re-invent the wheel? why not recycle technology and machines and re-adapt them? That would be WAY cheaper that building everything from scratch, not to mention all the infrastructure you have to build (welding tables, jigs, etc.) and all the expensive materials you are using (i saw a lot of new steel there being cut up) just to begin to make the machines!

  • @apexironworks the scrap metal industry buys most of these old and obsolete machines, scraps the metal.. then sells it.. chances are most of the metal these guys are using are just that, scrap metal.

  • @apexironworks Most heavy equipment including trucks and implements have a long life in service. Undercarriages are rebuilt ,engines are rebuilt or replaced and generally the machines are used to a point where it is no longer cost effective to rebuild. I think the simplicity of what they are offering here is what makes it an affordable option.

  • nice idea....

  • MOBILE CONSTRUCTION VEHICLE REPORTING!

    -Red Alert 2-

  • Awesome project guys!

btw; we all need that dvd before WW3 breaks out!

  • This is awesome. keep it up

  • G.E.C.K.

  • we will need these in case of a world wide disaster

  • awesome mniecraft server 46.105.107.9:25582

  • 100% Made in USA?

  • @Mako561 any one can make these for themselves anywhere

  • the new age of D.I.Y.

  • that is really cool, I wish y'all luck.

  • Nice! You have a list price?

  • what is the title of background music in this video ?

  • Do you folks have much in the way of translation capacity? The presentation focuses very much on altering our first world lives to optimize leisure time and minimize material luxury, but I submit that the durable, cheap, efficient nature of these machines makes them optimal for the developing world. Most particularly in countries like Afghanistan, whose principal manner of construction remains the mud brick structure.

  • On one hand, this is kind of cool. I'm all for advancing tech, make things cheaper, easier, etc. I don't like all this "we need cheaper stuff to save the Earth", hippy, global warming crap which youtube continually pimps in it's spotlight. Again, not totally against what is being showed here, just the enviromentalist slant in the way it is marketed.

  • GREAT - NOW I DONT NEED MINECRAFT ANYMORE

  • Simply put OP, amazing.

If there is a chance we could chat.

please send me a message. I would like to work in your commune. please I hate cali.

  • I'm an engineering student about to start my last year. Do you have design criteria listed for each of the machines you have yet to build? It might make for a good senior project if you don't mind a little help.

  • @jag9998 Please get in touch thought the website - opensourceecology(dot)org(slash)join(dot)php

  • @rickster348 And I suppose Bush, Clinton, Bush 1, Reagan, etc etc etc had nothing to do with it. Take your political crap to another forum.

  • @hrsqsiest Lmao, we call him Bush Prime ಠ__ಠ

  • Awesome stuff!

  • nice

  • Very good concepts. Impressed with the CEB. Kudos.

  • thanks to Obama, we'll ALL be building tools from junk soon.

  • this is incredible

  • genius

  • Oh, by the way....Do we have any volunteers to operate a BOLT TOGETHER front end loader?

  • @reddesertrider1 you mean as oposed to operating a SNAP together front end loader like the modern machines? sure i'll do it.........

  • @cgspeeddemon1 No, most loaders have interchangeable attachments. I'm refering to the torsion arms. watch the video again and look for them

  • All this "stuff" is a bunch of hacked together crap. Why are they are trying to re-create the wheel? The only thing that might be useful is the earth brick compressor, however if they aren't using an adobe mix their going to have a very bad day when it rains.

  • @reddesertrider1 i think thier idea for use in thirdworld countries where they cant afford the common hevy equiptment.....i think it'd be cool to have the loader just to say "i built it"

  • Awesome!!

  • Check out "Marcinose" on youtube if you found this interesting. They do the same thing

  • all this work, there better be a 9 hole golf course or at least a putting green!

  • Dude...make sure you add lots of Water Chips.

    THEY ALWAYS BREAK!!

You have no idea how hard it is to find new water chips.

  • Wow, interesting.. :D

  • What a joke ,just buy an old farm tractor ,done finished why reinvent the wheel? some equipment that was made 20 - 50 years has a smaller carbon footprint than buying new steel ,a new motor ,welding eq, etc.

  • wow, this is very thought provoking

  • you gies are good

  • Interesting

  • tat ca la hu vo

  • i need this for my weed plantation.

  • today i made a dirt house :D

  • @Willcleaver I just stumbled upon this project today and i'm blown away. I've been designing a simple crowd funded heat recovery system which could really help. It could be used with solar or biomass energy or waste heat from engine. Its all on my channel, my website gives more detail. Well done, i take my hat off to you.

  • @quietthomas because if we don't, we'll keep killing ourselves for food

  • This is the kind of thing that gives me hope :)

  • Open Source methods of production are the future!

  • Good luck ! :)

  • Please, please, please, let me join your team

  • An outstanding project! Thank you very much for sharing this knowledge. Namaste.

  • Where can i download instructions ?? Do you have a dvd?

  • @halfmumi Look at / blog (dot) opensourceecology (dot) org/ and the wiki on there. All instructions are not ready yet. We are in the process of putting them together with the assistance of MAKE magazine interns..

  • @Willcleaver Cant you make all these in a downloadable dvd? That would be great. I m ready to give 24/7 Torrent upload support thou (:

  • @halfmumi That's the plan. The project may take another 2 to 4 years until completion though..

  • @Willcleaver Ok.I am PMing You.

  • WOW!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!! FEED THE WORLD BABY!!!

  • Awesome, This is legit Jaque Fresco type shit

  • Do the Lathe next, because it is the foundry for all other meckanical buildings.

  • yeah...molto style telefilm eden :)

  • They should hide a set of these in the artic "gene bank", to ressurect the human race with after whatever wiped us out.

  • This is so cool!

    Keep on going!

  • What is a micrombine?

  • @lordmetroid A small combine, combine harvester.

  • Quite impressive. keep up the good work :D

  • Do you have plans to train local mechanics in poorer parts of the world on how to work convert a blueprint into a finished product?

From my time living in Kenya and Rwanda I know there is a vibrant labor market in these trades and if there was an organized effort to train these folks how to use the materials easily I imagine it would speed the uptake of your DIY build-a-village kits!

    Kudos to you all!

    Brad

  • @bradhapa Thanks for your input. I'd like to be able to take blueprints/designs to poorer parts of the world. We are not quiet ready to do that at the moment however. Once we have the necessary blueprints ourselves it would be a great adventure to start spreading them as you mention.

  • AWESOME! :)

  • I grow potatoes

  • Very awesome, bringing the idea of open source development to the real world. I like it. I wish you good luck during the rest of your project.

  • i really like this! keep going guys!

  • You guys are going to save civilization :D. We need designs for these sorts of things for when we CAN'T mass-produce cheap and nasty stuff (and/or lack a huge supporting infrastructure). So when things go wrong, they DON'T go *very* wrong. And this is EXACTLY what the developing world needs (at least so my first-year anthropology studies suggest X)). Thanks from the bottom of my heart!

  • so whats the catch? theres got to be a catch

  • @artaylor5615 no catch yet. We've successfully open sourced a few technologies so far and they have worked as planned. If you spot a catch let us know.

  • @Willcleaver

Have you found anybody who'd be willing to assist you in making these vehicles and tools?

  • @Zappyguy111 Yes, many people assist form different parts of the world and on site too. There is always room for more help so if you want please get in touch and join in.

  • @Willcleaver

I was thinking in the way of companies, you've probably already thought of this, but if you could mass produce it you could reduce the cost again.

Or are you trying to stay away form commercialising it?

  • @Zappyguy111 On demand production is the direction.. if you look at the openfarmtech. org / weblog site you will get a bigger picture of the overall direction:)

  • and 8 times likely to breakdown?

  • @zhevox the nature of it being open-source means that the designs don't have to compete with other markets hence there is no need to use cheep materials to cost cut. In fact the opposite is true, we over build because we can. That plus our "lifetime design for disassembley" policy means that you invest once and as it is so simple to repair the equipment lasts forever. We have already proved this with the "compressed earth brick press" and "LifeTrac 2".

  • all I wanna know:

if I'm a healthy adult living in a sustainable village run on these machines

how many hours per day must I spend working for the village

  • @Bananadine we have calculated that it would take 2 hours a day to provide for your basic needs with this technology once you have it all in place on some land. That is considering that you have at least 5 people on the land. One electrician, one metal fabricator to maintain and fix the machinery, two person to take care of agriculture and one to build and repair housing and other structures.

After that you would then all be free to pursue your passions in the spare time you would have.

  • SWEET. Nice work people. I am just a musician but I consider your work really beneficial.

  • Fallout's coming.

    Vault is ready.

  • people NAME IT G.E.C.K.!

    _NOW_

    this is awesome!!!

  • people NAME IT G.E.C.K.!

  • For increased credibility, consider a mathematically meaningful statement like, "one-eighth the cost," instead of "eight times cheeper."

  • @rosedaddy maybe try learning how to spell your corrections to increase your credibility. Like a grammatically correct spelling of words like, "cheaper", instead of "cheeper".

  • @bmuri My spelling may be poor--but I know the difference between spelling and grammar.

  • @rosedaddy He's an ex-scientist not a marketer or an English major. It's OPEN SOURCE, to 'increase credibility' yourself go to their wiki and simply look at their actual designs, math, and schematics, dozens of videos or look over their CAD work. The irony here is that people have been trained to respond better to suave pitches that favor the superficially pedantic, that you'd actual give more credibility to close sourced & pitched well than open source and providing all information possible.
