His ideas are highly polemic. Yet, skeptics only force is a gut reaction, never a good argument. Pearce, sometimes it seems, is the only sane philosopher vocal about the absolutely correct rational implications of the values we already hold. He just points at the obvious and shouts "look! why don't you see what your own values lead to?!"
Did you see the Science Blog? Wacko thinks getting rid of all carnivorous organisms is going to solve the world's problems. I hope he wants to manage the populations of starving elk, deer, etc. eating all of earth's plants..
@AlgeKalipso You completely missed my point. I wasn't comparing plants to animals, I was making a comment about the herbivores eating EVERY plant on the planet. Animals aren't the only organisms that go extinct you know. Want to tell animals to control their own breeding? The herbivores will eat all the food available and die an even slower agonizing death from starvation. The weak animals will breed more now that there are no carnivores to pick them off which influences the whole herd. Bad idea
David Pearce is very articulate and thoughtful. He makes a great contribution to human thought. I like how he accommodates a worst-case scenario, but how that doesn't limit his vision.
Nobody seems to know there's a forum now for Abolitionism: abolitionismnow . com / forum (remove spaces)

@KawaiiKemonomimi I hope you can provide evidence that Mr. Pearce is a "wacko", because nobody on the science blog did.

@KawaiiKemonomimi ...right, because plants suffer just as much as sentient animals being eaten alive...
