  • I am a Hatfield, 9th generation.

  • im also related to the McCoys

  • They didn't mention the outrage in WV at their people being taken by the Ky Law to stand trial. This very nearly ended in open warfare as militias from both states were lined up on either side of the river. Had the Federal Govt not stepped in, it would have turned into something much bigger than a feud.

  • I am related to the McCoy's my grandpa's grandpa was Olive McCoy..how cool to see this video! I hope there is a movie!!

  • @sashab4u2 Theres going to be. its called ''Bad Blood: The Hatfields and McCoys''.

  • im related to the hatfields

  • If they wanted to do this story justice they would get Sam Elliot to play one of them and Tom Selleck the other. They are perfect in westerns and Sam Elliot even has the look down cold for someone named Devil Anse.No make up required.

  • Im a mccoy....related to them

  • Film coming out soon ^^

    Saw the shooting in Romania

  • Is there still any resentment between the two families, or is it just an old story now?

  • @Xezlec Its just an old story by now. At this point there have been marriages between the familes for generations and many of them are related to each other.

  • Coal Country Tours is offering four-day Hatfield & McCoy Tours in June-July 2012 from Baltimore, and Beckley & Charleston, WV. Also WV mine war tours. Look us up on Google and Facebook.

  • I had a teacher who's last name was McCoy.

  • The last of the original McCoy bloodline was here.

  • Im a Hatfield

  • @NeonBlade39 cool man im a Antidormi,,,im a Connecticut Hillbilly,,LOL

  • My Mother's bloodline runs from Kentucky, down into DeWitt Arkansas. So, somewhere on down the line of my "ancestor-age," well I have a McCoy on my side.

It all sounds very interesting; but I know very little, about that part of my history.

  • My probation officer's name was Elliott Hatfield I asked him once if he was related to the family he never answered me.I asked him 2 or 3 times.I still wonder this is there an Elliott Hatfield?

  • Hey Chalicechica....thats my grandparents and I don't appreciate you're refering to them as 'gang bangers'. We bore a heavy burden back then. We never started anything, we only defend what was ours.

  • Didn't make them look "backwards" it was just a war [that's all] but on a smaller scale.Look what started the Kosovo war [ a killing at a wedding] but only Southern Americans catch Hell for being Human beings...it's BS and I'm not even from the South.

  • Did They Make Any Movies About This? If So Could Somebody Tell Me The Names?

  • ima hatfield! yay! the mccoys stink!

  • hell ya. i am a hatfield mutherfucker! screw dem damn mccoys

  • cool story/history

  • The war was NOT about slavery. The war was about TAXES TAXES TAXES. SLavery became an issue when the Union was getting their asses kicked in 1863. Brittain was going to pledge full support of the CSA and send brigades and weapons to them and Lincoln needed to stop that. So he issued the emancipation as PROPAGANDA. The was NOT over slavery. Even if it was, 600,000 people are NOT worth ending slavery. There are better ways to end enslavement.

  • Many elements contributed to the Civil War. Sectionalism played a huge role. As the industrialization of the North proceeded to gain more power, Southern agrarians began to rely more heavily on their plantations and the people who worked those plantations--slaves. The Missouri Compromise also contributed to the sectionalism problem. Once Texas was added to the Union after the Mexican war, it had the possibility of splitting into five states, all of which would have been slave states.

  • Of course, the Northern free states were concerned about being outnumbered by slave states. Not to mention, the growing reform movement of abolition was sweeping the North and many in the South also felt the need to end slavery. Abolition also received supporters in Europe. I think you have your facts wrong about why the Civil War happened. I agree that it was not completely and only about slavery; however, to say that the war was "NOT about slavery" is wrong. It is simply a false statement.

  • Your statements lead me to question the validity of your education. You obviously received history classes in the South, where many viewpoints about the war are biased. I also received my education in the South. I suppose I was just lucky enough to have teachers who spoke facts, not myths and wishes.

  • The McCoys were Yankee Union soldiers and they started the fight, sounds JUST LIKE the war itself. GO Hatfields!

  • Um, but wasn't the war about the end of slavery, and wasn't that a just thing ?

  • Yes I know that, that war was about the North wanting to tax the south so they could pay for the Transcontinental Railroad, the South decided that ifr they were going to take their rights away and not allow them to trade with brittain because brittain didn't rip them off, they seceded. Then the north invaded.

  • HAHA! 'Poor Ellis, he was probably retarded.' They were all retarded. Their family tree looks like a telephone pole.

  • i am a decendent of the mccoy clan this is great

  • my last name is hatfield this is cool

  • I am a relative of both sides. Devil Anse was my fourth great uncle on my mothers side and Randall was my fourth great uncle on my fathers side. I also lived in south Los Angeles in the 70's and 80's and called my family the original gang bangers. However, there is more to this story than some hotheads a lot of land exchanged hands during this time and the Coal Barrons have been destroying the land ever since.

  • "original gang bangers" LOL

  • @chalicechica great,connection...

  • @chalicechica - Wow. Now THIS would make a great movie if it's done the right way.

  • @chalicechica

i was thinkin the 1st american mafia

  • Hello I hav ancestory frm this fued um the guy who shot some1 for the heck of it is one of the ppl i am kend or related to

  • My last name is Hatfield does that mean I am related to the angry inbreds in the story?

  • yes maybe

  • im suprised that most of ypu are hatfileds i know theres only a few of us

  • how can you shoot each other then and get away i wonder

  • so technically were all related to eachother XD

  • im related to the mccoys on my mothers side lol

  • I'm related to the Hatfields on my dad's side.

  • Same Here! Im related to Devil Ant's brother.

  • moms side for me

  • Im related to the hatfeilds through my grandfather and my mother ^_^

  • I live in pike county, most all of the hatfield's here are pillheads. I cant think one hatfield thats not on the draw or a pillhead!!!

  • Pillheads hahahahha!! :)

  • All those years...and no one died from it. ..

  • ...well....almost....

  • What was the feud between these two familys?

  • hi...i am descendant of both of these families. so i can answe your question. the main reason why the feud went on was because of the love story between roseanna mccoy and jonse hatfield. but, what really set the feud on the bloody course it took was when perry cline suggested to the governor of west virginia to reopen the warrants againist the hatfield family. so you have two different reasons, but both families differ on WHAT REALLY HAPPENED.

  • Hi Bryson, I think I might be related but am not for sure. So you have anything about a Calvary Hatfield that lived in Gallia County, Ohio in 1843......David Hatfield

  • Bryson: don't forget the part about Floyd Hatfield and the issue about ownership of a pig. That figured into it too - a Staton lost his life over that ruling.

  • i just got this vid for history fair my friend is a relative to the hatfields

  • What was the feud between these two familys?

  • i am related to the hatfeilds

  • wow thx to all who uplode thes vids i need them for ss project and the ss fare im going all state and 1 more then WV IS NUM #1

  • this is so interesting.. i cant get enough

  • hey leathermenace, how ironic im a decendent of the Hatfields! no joke

  • So am I,that is too cool.

  • I worked with someone a few years ago that was a direct descendant of the Hatfield Family. She would tell me stories about the history of the fued between the two families. I found it so interesting. I still keep in touch with her today.

  • Who is she,Im Hatfield on my mothers side and my great grandma used to tell me stories not only of the fued but of day to day living, and she had great old photos, her name was Della Hatfield Hobbs.

  • It is a shame that those two families had a bitter rivalry. That's just not right. The killing of the two families wasn't the way to handle it. They should have moved if they didn't like each other.

  • 1f5sda: it's a clan thing. You don't run, you stand up for justice in the name of your clan if you think you and/or your family has been wronged. That's how things were dealt with back in the day.

  • hatfields #1

  • I am a direct descendant of this McCoy family. I recently read a Yahoo news story about how some tumors on the adrenal glands of the McCoys may have been part of the reason for the quick to anger McCoys. It sounded to much like me so I asked my doctor to look the urine test and the ultrasound came back positive. If you are a McCoy contact me. It could save your life.

  • Hi, My grandmother was first cousin to the Hatfields her maiden name was Browning. My grandfather whom she married was second cousin to the McCoys. Grandmaw was a wonderful story teller. She told us about Devil Anse, when her grand mother fixed breakfast for Devil Anse and his men before they rode out to take revenge on the McCoys. Devil Anse slipped a twenty dollar bill under his plate.

Paw and some others had/have awful tempers.

I wonder about your claims, tell me more.

  • im related to the hatfeilds

  • leathermenace: I read that too, in several different places - that the McCoys are genetically predisposed to some kind of...tumor-thing that might have to do with the battle-rage or something like that. Who knows - it might be a Celtic thing all around. McCoy is a Scottish name, like MacArthur is (and I'm a MacArthur on dad's side of the family).
