@voirinkeli This is actually a "scratching post". A large ex-tree cemented upright at the front of the yard. There are a lot of huge trees in the yard, but the bottom of them are covered up so the cats don't scratch them & kill them. This post gets sprayed on a lot and he might be reacting to the scents on it. (note - more recently, the extra layer of bark put up to protect the trees was covered by metal so the young cubs didn't climb up the trees. Lions aren't climbers, but cubs might
