whats the point with prius? the released pollution that goes into the construction of components of this car, equals the polution of the construction AND the lifetime use of a normal car. enviromentalists are being fools
does all the option only available selectively? my smart key has only a lock button & an unlock button, does that mean i can't customise the unlock 1-door/all-door option?
I dont trust a car with all electronic controls, when I step on brakes I want BRAKES NOW not a computer with fuel economy to decide how much brakes I might need or not.
Just brought a Prius ZVW 30 with the normal two button keyless remote: lock and unlock. Just wonder whether how to reset the door lock and unlock mode? eg. only driver door open when door handle are touch in stead of all the door.
So there I am sitting in my car. I gave my daughter the key fob with mailbox keys attached so she could check the mail. As she left the car, the display flashed a warning saying something like the key is gone. (Elvis has left the building) went through my mind. I suppose it would then sound the alarm after a while. What's with that? Also how can I warm up my car? Can I just leave with the fob after starting the car, or do I leave the fob in the car and go away?
@ToyotaUSA Also ppl can get into your car and drive away without the key when it already started. They can't restart the car. And you can't use the fob to lock when your car engine is running but you can use the mechanical key to lock and the catch you have to use the mechanical key to unlock too.
@dkw12002 Thanks. Another Pruis owner said to forget warming the car up cause the engine doesn't need it and it would take a long time to get the cabin heat up with the car idling. I see this is true, so I just dress warmer and take right off. The cabin heats up in about 5 min. which is fine. I'm getting 45 mpg on the ECO setting in town. Now if I can just find a route to work that is downhill both ways, I can get that up to 50 mpg.
I pressed Panic/Unlock/Lock for 5 seconds and I confirmed mode changed on front display. However pressing unlock still opens driver door lock only. I repeated this many times but I can't change personalize setting of my smart key. Any process missing?
hey, guys, does anyone know if every smart key has to have a mechanical key inside? i recently purchased a SH toyota corrola with the smart key system, and received two smart key fobs, but only one of them has a mechanical hey inside. have i been jipped?
@GarrettKeetley That they do. Today anyway. Back in the 70s they had it right. Look at the first gen RX-7, the Datsun 280z, the Toyota 2000GT, the Datsun Skyline, all gorgeous cars. But now they're ugly as fuck.

@MrBEB123 Why are you even on this video clip? You searched "Toyota" on youtube just so you could bash Toyota drivers? Surely you must have better things to do.
"The brand is extremely unreliable, does not hold up well in crashes"
For the last 10-20 years, nothing can be farther from the truth.
It took foreign companies building better cars for decades, convincing everyone except the most national socialist of American that they shouldnt buy junk just because its an American brand, to make the American companies realize that their hyperproduction strategy sucks for the consumer.
I say national socialist using the most explicit definition.
@Spanky00Cheeks Toyota and Lexus are junk. Extreme major problems that have already killed people and massive down time without being able to find the problems. Totally undeveloped technology that saves a only a very small amount of fuel at a giant cost. Our organization at work has some of these cars for running errands and they are just terrible. Poor ergonomics and not fun to drive. My 1995 Caprice is built like a tank and a blast to drive. Far better than any new Toyota or Lexus.
I agree that the Prius, especially the earlier models, were more of a novelty or a social statement, than anything else. Like an iPad or something :D.
And looking at the cost, it was more of a fiscal donation for research than buying a car. But the hybrid system in general is superior, if driven right.
I don't know where you are getting you data on Toyota in general being inferior. Here is some proof to the contrary:
@MrBEB123 Lexus is on par with Merc in terms of quality, luxury and even performance. Your 1995 Caprice ain't worth shit and it probably drives like a grocery cart, only in a straight line with bad steering and garbage brakes. If I wanted to drive a 1995 Caprice, I would just get a grocery cart from the nearest walmart and put a 60 hp motor on the back.
@Spanky00Cheeks I agree with you. Too bad most "patriotic" Americans like MrBEB123 make the rest of the Americans think they should buy American junk just because its made in America. While he doesn't know that he is doing a disservice to his fellow countrymen by buying garbage products and misleading American companies to think that their product is good since it sells.
@dortmundpls You know nothing about cars. I would rather drive on a daily basis any American car that was made in the 1960's if it were in new condition than any Toyota product including their laughable Lexus brand. Today's American cars are better as well. Our organization has both for running errands and the American cars are much better than the Toyota's that nobody wants to drive. A tin can of a car with horrible ergonomics. If I want to save a small amount of gas I will take a bus.
@MrBEB123 If any of that was true... Toyota wouldn't be the top selling automaker in the US, GM and Crysler wouldn't have gone bankrupt, and there wouldn't be a Prius. No... Americans have bought more Toyota's than any other car for nearly a two decades for the simple reason that Japanese cars are better. And saying that someone else doesn't know about cars must mean that there were a lot of stupid Americans last year buying Toyota cars rather than GM or Crysler.
@MrBEB123 Shut the fuck up with the patriotic act. "Today's American cars are better" my ass. I'd rather drive German, Swedish, Italian, Japanese cars before I drive an American car. Heck, India, China and even Iran are starting to make better cars than the American junk you drive. Not everything American made is better. I have Italian suits, drive a German car, have Japanese electronics and drink Russian vodka. So you can kiss my ass bitch.
@efadaei So true. American cars are junk. Wasn't always like that. In the late 80s and throughout the 90s they got really lazy and figured (knew) that Americans would buy their name no matter what they gave them. For most it worked. They took sure and clear advantage of nationalism. I drive an old aircooled VW. No technology or power anything, but dammit that thing can take a million slugs and it won't die for anything.
hey remember the movie ""judge dredd"" and ""demolition"" man this is what the world is coming to can anyone see what im seeing it doesnt look good ;(
The parts in the recalled vehicles were made by american companies!!!!!! Cars of the same model in japan have no recall because the parts are made in japan!!!THIS IS THE U.S.A's fault !!!!!
By the way, did you know that the American government is making such an scandal of Toyota's brakes?. Especially CNN, they are criticizing Toyota everyday, every moment. In fact, this is just an American conspiration against Toyota.
You can make sure just watching CNN for a few hours...
I love my Camry! It was involved in the recall and I got it fixed up no problem. The last car I had was a Chrysler Cirrus and I poured more money into the piece of crap car then I did putting a down payment on my Camry! I have always thought foreign cars ran better. I don't think that makes me "un-American" but you all can think and say what you like... That part of what makes this country great!
@aggiegal20 You are more American that any other American that says you are "un-American" just because you bought a foreign car. American consumers should have a choice without any grief.
(It is time for Americans to start buying our own products so that we do not end up being owned by the Asians.) Sorry to disappoint you MrBEB123, but who do you think owns Rockefeller Center... or the Empire State Building? George W. held a huge garage sale some years ago.
Foreign cars are not good for the American economy, have sky high parts prices and insurance and have sub par safety. The latest gas pedal problem with Toyota vehicles is a good example of that. It is time for Americans to start buying our own products so that we do not end up being owned by the Asians.
FYI, Toyotas are more American than most so called American cars are.....Toyotas are made in USA and of US parts (thats the problem( while GM Ford, Chrysler are made of asian parts and assembled mostly in Mexico and Canada..........so which is more American, Toyota, or GM and Ford?
If you're so much into buying American, you should tell American car companies to produce better cars, cars as good as the Prius. That's American capitalism, isn't it? Or is "Buy American" the slogan of the supposed "capitalist" protecting their industries like communists do? Learn to compete in the marketplace or perish, that is the American way.
well said. I'm all for buying American made cars but I'm not going to lie or pretend that they're better than Japanese cars. it's the other way around. American cars are getting better thankfully. but they're still playing catch up.
The problem I have with Toyota is their addressing of defective products. Lately there have been issues with the accelerator sticking and causing accidents. I find it hard to believe that the problem is related to a floor mat or a gas pedal that's too long. Toyota uses drive by wire, which means there is no physical connection between the pedal and the throttle body. A computer glitch is the most likely culprit, hopefully they will fix the real problem, before someone else has to die.
I read about that case in lexus es350. official report says that it was due to wrong size floormat. so it's not a mechanical problem. their cars have been reliable for decades. one or a few bad incident don't mean much in a larger context.
I LOVE my 2010 Prius! It is so fun to drive and I feel great about not having to stop by the gas station every couple of weeks! What a time and money saver!!
I don't feel the slightest bit guilty for driving Toyotas and I don't pity the Big 3, A lot of good workers got screwed by their own bosses and so who is to blame for that?
I drive nothing but Toyotas. They are the best car around--and my father is a retired Chrysler engineer. I really don't know how good their customer support is because I never needed it and I drove my last Toyota (Paseo) for 17 years. I have 2010 Prius now and I love it.
I love the Prius and can't wait until I can buy one myself. The smart key will just be so awesome. Just another thing to make my life a bit easier as well as save me tons of money on gas and help the world too.
your right in one way and wrong in another.toyota was a good car before 2000 but from there on things changed....today in toyota the production line will not be stopped if there is a fault found on any part of the car as it would mean 300 workers would come to a stand still, instead the problem is let go and is fixed under warranty
today Toyota claimed it's not making any money in North America lol is it the UAW's fault lol could it be legacy costs lol , could it be they make boring cars .....Ford beat Toyota in quaility according to same people who put Toyota in No 1 spot. I feeel sooooo bad for them.....not
i heard the same thing , but how the hell does the uaw have any affect or how can toyota blame the uaw for not making any money in the US?...toyota doesnt have the uaw in any of there plants..so how can they blame it on that ?...
it is the ugliest....and it is that bad...what are people thinking today ....dam that is ugly next time i see one i think i will puke all over it ...yuk
IT'S CALLED GETTING A NISSAN. ALL NEW NISSANS COME WITH SMART KEYS. you keep the key in your pocket at all times. and it's not so confusing. it just has buttons on the door handle.
hahaha dude your funny..i nearly puked my beer threw my nose when i read your post ...you are sooo rite...god that thing is fugly ...i'm still laffin ..i guess i wood affend some yuppy if i pulled up next to someone in this car with my 77 ford f 150 and my gass guzzlin , air polutin american V8 stunk the shit out of them..
who in there rite mid wood want to be seen in this crappy jap piece of flimsy junk ..AMERICAN GASS GUZZLIN V8'S ROCK
its not kinda ugly...its the roseanne bar of the car world...its extreamly fugly ..geeze that thing is bad...what the hell were they thinking when they made that ...its the rodney dangerfield of cars..it get's no respect ...AT ALL...and my 77 ford truck is eco freindly too..it squash's any and all the toyotas it can find...so its taking as many toyotas off the road as it can ..and it does all of this on 1 tank of gas?
oh please..dont even bring that shit up..no..it doesnt park itself ..but it does have park assist...its called [miriors]..i am not fat and lazy were i need something like this...if you cant park a car without this ,,then you dont need to drive ..its that simple ..i cant believe you need something like this ...and on a tiny car too..i hate to see if you had to park something big like a 59 mercury parklane
What timing. I just did a Priuscast episode all about the Smart Key system.
So, if the battery is completely dead, you can get in with the mechanical key, but how do you start the car? It looks like the 2010 may not have the "dock" fob port?
(I meant the battery in the key fob, but it appears it contains some kind of RFID type passive device, so even if the battery is dead, the car can still "read" the key fob is it is close enough to the start button sensor.)
There is a dock for the fob inside the car. You don't need it for higher models though. It senses the presence of the key and you don't have to insert it.
Thats very nice im so getting it you guys do a good job keep it up Toyota!

The last car I had was a Chrysler Cirrus and I poured more money into the piece of crap car then I did putting a down payment on my Camry! I have always thought foreign cars ran better. I don't think that makes me "un-American" but you all can think and say what you like... That part of what makes this country great!
aggiegal20 1 year ago
@aggiegal20 You are more American that any other American that says you are "un-American" just because you bought a foreign car. American consumers should have a choice without any grief.

(It is time for Americans to start buying our own products so that we do not end up being owned by the Asians.) Sorry to disappoint you MrBEB123, but who do you think owns Rockefeller Center... or the Empire State Building? George W. held a huge garage sale some years ago.
Great smart key though...

Most Toyo's are made in Japan you ill-informed brainwashed fanboy. Not to mention the quality has dropped behind Chrysler. Look at the numbers.
BTW Ford is upgrading brakes that work perfectly fine. I wouldn't exactly call it a faulty brake like your POS Japanese car.
Headshot426 2 years ago
Toyota will come back bigger, better and bolder............these are relativly minor issues, Ford Fusion is on a recall too for brake problems.
Xiber1 2 years ago
Too bad Toyota quality has gone down hill. Now they're the worst car maker.

Foreign cars are not good for the American economy, have sky high parts prices and insurance and have sub par safety. The latest gas pedal problem with Toyota vehicles is a good example of that. It is time for Americans to start buying our own products so that we do not end up being owned by the Asians.
MrBEB123 2 years ago
FYI, Toyotas are more American than most so called American cars are.....Toyotas are made in USA and of US parts (thats the problem( while GM Ford, Chrysler are made of asian parts and assembled mostly in Mexico and Canada..........so which is more American, Toyota, or GM and Ford?
Xiber1 2 years ago
@MrBEB123 Wake up and smell the coffee because the American economy is down the toilet. Soon China is going to be the leader of the global economy.

If you're so much into buying American, you should tell American car companies to produce better cars, cars as good as the Prius. That's American capitalism, isn't it? Or is "Buy American" the slogan of the supposed "capitalist" protecting their industries like communists do? Learn to compete in the marketplace or perish, that is the American way.
publiux 2 years ago

Thinkify1 2 years ago

I have 2010 Prius now and I love it.

your right in one way and wrong in another.toyota was a good car before 2000 but from there on things changed....today in toyota the production line will not be stopped if there is a fault found on any part of the car as it would mean 300 workers would come to a stand still, instead the problem is let go and is fixed under warranty
scottstrike10 2 years ago
today Toyota claimed it's not making any money in North America lol is it the UAW's fault lol could it be legacy costs lol , could it be they make boring cars .....Ford beat Toyota in quaility according to same people who put Toyota in No 1 spot. I feeel sooooo bad for them.....not
drydock265 2 years ago
i heard the same thing , but how the hell does the uaw have any affect or how can toyota blame the uaw for not making any money in the US?...toyota doesnt have the uaw in any of there plants..so how can they blame it on that ?...

IT'S CALLED GETTING A NISSAN. ALL NEW NISSANS COME WITH SMART KEYS. you keep the key in your pocket at all times. and it's not so confusing. it just has buttons on the door handle.
I LOVE MY ALTIMA COUPE '09 :D
LEGOmyMEGHOE 2 years ago 3
Dear LEGOmyMEGHOE,
I'm glad you love your Altima.
However, not all new Nissans come with the Intelligent Key System. For example, the 2009 Nissan Versa Hatchback model 1.8S does not.
Check your facts,

its not kinda ugly...its the roseanne bar of the car world...its extreamly fugly ..geeze that thing is bad...what the hell were they thinking when they made that ...its the rodney dangerfield of cars..it get's no respect ...AT ALL...and my 77 ford truck is eco freindly too..it squash's any and all the toyotas it can find...so its taking as many toyotas off the road as it can ..and it does all of this on 1 tank of gas?
390merc65 2 years ago
Does your 77 ford truck park itself?
dontwalkhand 2 years ago
oh please..dont even bring that shit up..no..it doesnt park itself ..but it does have park assist...its called [miriors]..i am not fat and lazy were i need something like this...if you cant park a car without this ,,then you dont need to drive ..its that simple ..i cant believe you need something like this ...and on a tiny car too..i hate to see if you had to park something big like a 59 mercury parklane
390merc65 2 years ago
what does a parking assist program have to do with you being fat?
It's a convenience feature. You don't bitch about other automated things in your life, do you?

Prius I, II, III have Smart Key (driver's door only) Prius IV and V has Smart Key (three door - driver, passenger and rear lift).
ToyotaUSA 2 years ago
What timing. I just did a Priuscast episode all about the Smart Key system.
So, if the battery is completely dead, you can get in with the mechanical key, but how do you start the car? It looks like the 2010 may not have the "dock" fob port?
allenhuffman 2 years ago
well if the battery is dead it will not start anyways. I like how you can still get in the car though even if the battery is dead.
hause07 2 years ago
(I meant the battery in the key fob, but it appears it contains some kind of RFID type passive device, so even if the battery is dead, the car can still "read" the key fob is it is close enough to the start button sensor.)
allenhuffman 2 years ago
I know what you mean. How would one be able to start it if theres no dock for the fob??
hybridlancer2004 2 years ago
There is a dock for the fob inside the car. You don't need it for higher models though. It senses the presence of the key and you don't have to insert it.
