One of the most heart-rending voices I have ever heard in a lifetime of a love affair with hispanoamerican music! Where has she been all my life? Who is she, what do we know about her? How could such a "fenomeno" possibly stay hidden? I need more Carmela urgently, please! It's a matter of life and death!

Encore merci Allie.
I am not on You Tube as often as I would like but I keep this song among my favorites. It's always the same pleasure when I play and listen to it. Thanks again Allie!
@fleurpasi this i i have got velvet curtains my love, to dr ress my heart w with black colour my love if you forget me. If you gorget me white lily..if the lily is white my love you are brown..
you were as a Samaritan my love..i asked to you a glass of water ..and you didn't give me any..You refused to give me water my l sweet love... If you refuse to give me water my love i 'm going to die..
Not an excellent translation but you can undestand a little bit more..
Finally I can talk about one of the most beautiful spanish voices.... (sorry for my english, I'm italian). I love since many years Carmela and I can tell you something: nearly 8 years ago I could talk by phone with Carmela (someone close to Paco Ibanez gave me her number). Well, I can tell you she live in Switzerland, and she's a woman full of energy. She was very angry cause Universal detain all rights and she couldn't either publish her old song. :)
written by Jorge Araujo Chiriboga De terciopelo negro guambrita y... traigo cortinas para enlutar mi pecho guambrita y... si tú me olvidas.
All the websites repeat the same things about Carmela. Paco Ibanez was her guitar companion for 8 years. Jesus Soto was also a member of "The Yares" and they travelled a lot as a group. Check the middle section of "Entretien avec Carlos Caceres Sobrea" where it says: "Alors c'est qui Carmela?" If I find more information I will share with you.
I found websites that talk about Carmela but they are in French or Spanish. She was a Spanish singer in the 50's who was in a group called "Los Yares" with Paco Ibanez. It's easier to type "Carmela y Paco Ibanez" for more information. Hope this is helpful.
You are welcome, it is amazing that english speakers are interested on hispanoamerican culture. Oscar Chavez, a mexican folclorist has also made a version of this beutiful ecuatorian song.
Oh, it's beautiful! I had a lot of time looking for this version, I had only heard the same song but with Oscar Chavez, which is also great... Thanks for sharing it!

She has a unique voice which she uses like a surgeon's knife. Does no one really know she was?
