The fires started mid July (note I said fires) not fire. They continued to burn until November when the first snowfall put out the last of the flames.

This was a tragedy. I believe it altered the environment greatly and not only affected Yellowstone but our planet as a whole.

@weboffersmall actually, this has had many longterm good effects that are felt today. Fires occur naturally and are a vital part of any ecosystem.

I fought the fire back in 1988.
I was 19.
Location: FLAG RANCH
My crew was mostly fighting section C.
Crew B were from Alaska about 40 women.
This was my first major fire fight. It was the hardest but most exciting.
Was circled twice by the fire and each time a helicopter dropped retardent on us.

@foxconn96 not lava in 1988 i was a dry summer no rain and then one day a stike of lighting came down and caught everything on fire
