  • THANK YOU VIEB FOR UPLOADING ONE OF THE GREATEST VIDEO'S EVER DONE.

    ITS FURRY AT HIS BEST.

  • now that's a FUCKIN GUITAR HERO!

  • great player...great voice...i believe him when he plays...a lost art in modern music...all across the board, sucks to say that, but its true.

  • awesome

  • I (and about 50,000 other people) saw this little old man come out with his guitar, sit down and start playing and singing. Seemed a little incongruous at the time but the memory has haunted me ever since. Today I found out who he was. This was a Rolling Stones concert, Memphis, 1975. Makes perfect sense to me now.

  • @Oh2BCracker: Funny story concerning that gig: Mick and Keith showed up at Furry's apartment the day of that concert to ask him if he'd open the show for them. They told him they'd be honored if he opened for them and he kept turning them down. "I'm tired of playing for rowdy teenagers who don't listen". He never heard of the Stones, didn't care who they were, and he wouldn't budge an inch. Finally, Keith said "We'll give you ten grand". Furry said, "What time you want me there?"

  • His right hand (picking) technique is amazing. That elbow lick too.

  • Love delta blues

  • I agree with fishman...

  • Wow .....that is neat and nice.

    Jack

  • Oh MAN i LOVE THIS! just wonderful!!!

  • Uncrushable spirit of human nature, awaiting better days. A lesson to us all. Also a warning we should get our lives in balance and instead of living large, live with fairness and justice toward others.

  • Monumental... Thank you from Canada!

  • 8 people need to carry their burdens into the next world.

  • Go Furry!

  • in connection and after 60 years of singing this song. yep possessed

    barb

  • ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL

  • Great performance Furry! The guy in the white ball cap sure does look like a young tail dragger from greenville. Could it be the earliest footage of T-model?

  • the guy in the white ball cap sure does look like a young tail dragger from greenville, (T-model.)

  • fishman...Rightfully Real!

  • THIS MAN "IS" HIS GUITAR

  • God Bless furry and Beale Street

  • LOVE IT!!! SUCH a showman!!!

  • Furry was a sweet old man, like his music, as real as it gets.

  • Superbe !

  • doesn't matter WHAT color you were born….just FEEL it!

  • just because he rests his elbow on the neck of the guitar, doesn't mean he is possessed. i think he is BRILLIANT!!!!

  • Fantastic. Just love the unique style.

  • damn....why was i born a white dude

  • 凄いブルースマン。

  • From the soul of the man.

  • Where is this footage from? Does anyone know?

  • am i the only one who hears when i download at +- 1 minute? xd

  • when you get right down to the bottom of it all, old-school blues will always remain. this man will be singing until the end of time.

    glory, glory hallelujah

when I die lord, when I die.

  • My daddy has been gone for 28 years. He used to bring home Furry Lewis records from the library when I was in 2nd grade & we would listen...to Odetta also. Those are the two musicians I actually remember from the 2nd grade. I now have a grandson in the 4th grade so they made a real strong impression on me! After seeing this all I can think of ...besides how great he is...is "I sure wish daddy could see this!" We had the records, but I sure wish daddy could see this! Thank you.

  • oh YEAHHHHHHHHHH HES POSSESSED BY A SPIRIT A 40% BOTTLED SPIRIT ,THE FUEL OF BLUESMEN+GALS .,,,,,,CEEGARZ N BOURBON ,,,PASS ME THE ASHTRAY ,,,AMEN

  • Motherfucker!!!!........This man has some real talent!!!!

This kind of music always moves me!!!

Very spiritual the way he sings and performs!!!

  • joer! este tipo ace maravillas con la guitarra!

  • oh shit the blues right suun!

  • great!

  • 8 idiots hit dislike.., Hope I never meet them ..

  • Blues*

  • This is bllues men !!

  • In what year was this filmed?

  • One of the greats.

  • Disliking this guy is going against the point of music, let alone the song. Furry Lewis is a hero among god's and so he shall remain one of the coolest live performers i've ever seen. ~Peace^Adam~

  • I always think of Joni Mitchell's song about meeting this guy, Furry Sings the Blues

  • @jaikwillis What song is that?

  • @briankofke joni mitchell's song is "furry sings the blues", its a terrific portrait and says a lot about both sides of the 60's blues craze if you pick the lyric apart. Its on Hejira which I would say is her best album, definitely worth buying, entirely unique and brilliant. But yeh back to Furry.

  • Is he a furry?

  • which page in the "bert weedons"play in a day is this technique on ????lol ,,,,,,,,straight rom the soul ,sumat we cant "learn"

  • Bad-ass! They don't make 'em like they used to.

  • Glory Glory !

I am going home to be with my Jesus

When I lay my body down!!

  • @kstewintheart4u Not body, burden.

  • Glory Glory !

  • anyone who doesn't like this doesn't appreciate true music and talent

  • I wann see Justin or Britney have this passion...

  • Sensacional

  • This old school delta blues always crushes my soul down into a little ball, educates it and then releases it back to the world. Whenever I listen to this or any soulful blues, I end up reassessing the word around me. I wish everyone on earth could feel the spirit and persistence of this music. If we did, I think the world might gain more perspective and get along better.

  • @fishman017 Dude!!!...you are so freaking right, i mean whenever i listen to some inspired blues like this song i get the feeling that is GOD himself playing trough him (im not sure im explaining myself right)

I so wish more people could be expose to this kind of talent (and like you said) im sure we would get along better!!!

    Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @fishman017 Uh, doubt it. For me, I don't have any educational epiphany when I hear this music, but I feel something immediately, because it's the most emotionally raw melodic noise ever made. No pretentious shit, just him putting on a performance and hitting that fuckin' guitar and layin' that rhythm down, BABY.

  • @brick0rockwell --YOU NAILED IT!!

  • @fishman017

Haleluja, brother! The blues are without doubt one of the most soulful musical traditions in the world. Getting acquainted with this magnificent music has enriched my life beyond measure. And there are so many wonderful and delectably different bluesmen to savour: Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie McTell, Bukka White, Lightnin´ Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Blind Willie Johnson - to name just a few off hand.

  • ...fuckin AWESOME...

  • Furry is doing what country blues players call - "making your guitar talk"!

  • I think we're all seeing who influenced Jimi Hendrix's flamboyancy! LOL

  • In his memoir, The Mayor of MacDougal Street, Dave Van Ronk pays tribute to Furry.

  • This guy just made my whole year...sickest style eVAR!

  • Amazing, More than one way to skin a cat or play a guitar -. forgetall your techniqe, just play what feels right.. Brilliant................

  • @maximol2923 ..You are so right! Just make music anyway you can! If it feels right, sounds good to you, and makes your foot tap, JUST PLAY IT!!! To heck with technique and haters! Play your guitar and sip from your bottle! :o)

  • See: Os Velhos da Montanha

  • excellent share...thank you so much :--)

  • Seriously, who the fuck are the 8 people who said they did not like this?

  • im speechless

  • omg ..

    omg

  • I think this ole guy is amazing!

    Number on fan here.

  • He looks like Malcom X

  • How could 8 people dislike this? This is what a raw real musician looks like, maybe it scares them and stick to Taylor Swift.

  • The great Furry Lewis!

  • Wow, that elbow technique was smashing!

  • great

  • Furry wanted to show Bukka that he could cover all the bases! Delightful!

  • Beautiful

  • I wish I could have sat down with this man and just talked to him about old times and the life he lived. I bet he had some stories.. Love ya, Furry

  • Furry never got his due. He's a great one. Beautiful Furry.

  • I know he's such a crazy guy but I like it

  • to bad i wasn t born in that time were music came from peoples hart. Blues, Rock n Roll and other types that makes your hard ake and dance.

  • @1mulc1 hart****

  • @1mulc1 Just put that crap aside. Not everyone is a spelling bee champ. Why you gotta make fun? It is soooo petty. That's what kills me about people. They don't even hear what you say, they just focus on the stupid shit. And that's from the "hart". lol

  • @flowrpowrlovechild Did i say something wrong omg ???

  • @1mulc1 The reason the music is so painstaking was b/c of thehard times these people went through. Yes, the music is awesome but it came from a place you will hopefully never know. Oppression, slavery. tyranny and a life with practically nothing but your faith in God along with the hope of eventual freedom for yourself and your family spawned the heartwrenching music of the Blues.

  • @flowrpowrlovechild I didn t say it wasnt bad for tham in those times but i am trying to tell you that is the realy good music. All those good stuff came from things you mentioned before i agree to bad !

  • @flowrpowrlovechild You know when you live your entire life without HOPE because ther is NO hope yet you keep on living you LIVE THE BLUES.. I live it....and I have known the suffering. Would I trade it for a blind sighted life and a clean heralthy body and a soul less life.....I think I WOULD..but Destiny had other plans. You are what you are even if others can't see.

  • @flowrpowrlovechild I think you hit the nail right in the head i mean blues players really play from the heart and when you can connect your true feelings and your abilities as a musician together you will never go wrong, even though you might not be the most technical player in the world it wont matter cuz your soul will pour out of every single note you play even if its the wrong one!!!!

I so love this kind of music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • never seen done like that before. amazing! great stuff! why don't they make music like this anymore?

  • is that a j50?

  • Right On Furry Lewis-

  • I luv me some Furry!! How can one listen to this and say, "No, I don't like it" If you do then you are insane!!!

  • Where is this from?!

  • Blues the way it was intended. Piss drunk and lost in obfuscation. Hey anybody notice Bukka in the crowd?

  • great stuff!!! * * * * *

  • Out of all the versions of the song i heard this is by far the best

  • this is awesome. he is acting like he's possessed by a spirit or something, resting his elbow on the neck. great playing.

  • AWESOME * WONDERFUL * EXCELLENT * FANTASIC!!! Can't be beat!!! ***

  • Hey Chord Cluster.. Great piece on your channel. I really didn't hear much of the foot tapping that you spoke about. It lent some character to a great atmospheric piece of music!

  • To Chord Cluster the guitar is in open G tuning.. Low to high.. DGDGBD. peace and blessings!

  • I love Furry's laid back style it's like hendrix he's haveing fun with it..

  • hendrix and furry are nothhing alike

  • The way he plays around with the guitar. no shit him and Hendrix r nothing alike. Furry's coming from what Jimmi learned from Jimmi took it to the next and Jimmi only recorded 1 song playing slide not his thing. I was saying the way he just laid back playing like it's just natural feel me.

  • Glory Glory this is about as raw as it gets!!!

  • Just fantastic. What else is there to say?

  • love this stuff

  • hallelujah =]

  • That is just the light making it look upside down. Listen to the first few seconds. He hits the low E on the top and it sounds low like it should.

  • Is it my imagination or does he have the guitar strung backwards - kind of looks like he has it strung like Elizabeth Cotten used to, with the low E string as the 1st string and the high E string as the 6th string. Anyway, doesn't matter really, it's an awesome performance!

  • no the guitar is in standard tuning and right side up.

  • Thanks to people like th elate Lee Baker, and an acoustic group called Crawpatch, I used to see Furry perform in the living rooms all the time in Memphis...he used to keep his guitar safe in pawn, so it had to be bought out of pawn for him to come perform. He also had only one leg, and was the most articulate expressive entertainer, very approachable, and attentive to what you had to say. Enjoyed Furry, and his tune my last name never been told

  • hahahaha

  • i love it but is he drunk?

  • I bet is not lemonade that they're shown to be drinking at the end of the video.

  • martifingers

    Well said

  • Bravo......just got to love this video.

    Great playing.

  • To Fatcatbuzz

I agree about the music but I would say you get a sense of God that only comes from humanity...

  • Comment removed

  • That is the greatest acoustic guitar performance. I've ever seen!!!

  • Simplement EXTRAORDINAIRE, merci d'avoir poster !

  • O man! This is great! Thanks for posting!

  • "All my trouble will be over..." 2:51, he points at the woman, ahahah.

  • Please, give me half of this man's care-free spirit

  • I simply Love It

  • That guitar cant handle him!

  • The old blues like this is some of the best music ever recorded. It's when you hear music like this, you get a sense of humanity that only comes from God.

  • LMAO!!!! Bukka know now he ain't suppose to have that with him and if he did he should of waited.LMAO!!!

  • boriagi, you may want to search "Bukka White - Jelly Roll Blues" here in youtube :)

    It's the same place!!

    thanks to "la jefa"

  • Somebody looks alittle drunk. That's alright. Alot of these old bluesmen really opened up with alittle drink, really brought out the raw passion... alot harder to hide it when you're inebriated.

    Keep on playin' Furry.

  • ( 3:12 ) Who's the guy taking a sip from a bottle and sticking it back in his pants pocket? Is that Bukka White? He's got a guitar and finger picks on.

  • awesome / his version of stack o lee is the nuts

  • vauxhall908.....Without referring to my own guitar to check it out, it sounds like open D. Thats D A D F# A D.

  • no, its open g

  • is he in a open tuneing?

  • He's showing what Robert Johnson said in a song"The blues is in your right hand".

  • wow...

  • Glory what?

  • i cant belive i just found out about this guy about 2 weeks ago its some of the best guitar playing ive ever heard XD

  • Yeh......perfect......just perfect...!!!!!

  • Ma ha haaan...that just kept on going!

    Just joking...loved it

  • why dont people play like this anymore?

  • because nowadays there isn't passion (i think)

  • @mountainsofolivs

Too much ego and not enough balls.

  • @mountainsofolivs

They do.. you just have to dig deep.

  • @mountainsofolivs

'cause people listen Justin Bieber ah ah ah!

  • @mountainsofolivs i ask myself this all the time....,

  • nice blues. That is a really long slide

  • DEEP.

  • This is one of the most remarkable videos I have ever seen.

  • I was raised in a small east texas town...about 20 miles from the birth place of Freddie King. singing those hyms in church brings back alot of memories i remember a few black folks singing thoes old songs and it struck my ear like nothing else.. i was drawn to that soulful sound and the blues from an early age

great footage...furry lewis is one of the often forgotten legands that created the music we call the blues

  • I know exactly what you mean about that music striking your ear. Been trying to play this stuff for 5 years now. What a high bar these guys set.

  • Ya, we call it the Blues & Gospel and let me tell you It's Alive !

    Not forgotten.

    Welcome to my channel.

Old Blues & Gospel 1902 - 1943 is my collection, but also contemporary aking to Pre-War-sound !

  • I believe I saw him in person down the village in the 60s. Did anybody else see him there? I know I saw Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee for sure.

  • what a sound--great

  • One word: AMAZING.

  • Sure ! He's Furry Lewis....

  • @vleb you got that right! I came here looking for Furry and got what I wanted :) No wasted time at all...

  • @oboma8 you an idiot.

  • my first view of this was upside down! funny joke youtube!!

great video too- love the blues

  • Excellent!

    Mark...

  • Love the way he plays.

  • cool!

  • Woo Hoo. I love this!

  • Well, I just stumbled on this. It's just so... BEAUTIFUL

Wow! wowowowowow Thanks SO much for posting this!!

  • there may be some as good as Furry, but I don't think there are any that are better
