  • D is the greatest! Truth!!

  • timing.. if d came back now i dont think it would be a good idea. timing

  • where's the fan suggestion site to get him back in the game?

  • this is a great version.

  • I didnt think it would work but it did! you can extract youtube videos as mp4s for free on that site mp4ify just google mp4ify

  • I love this song! Thanks for posting it:)

  • It would be a prayer answered if God allows this man to come back and come back hard and more successful than ever come 2010...that would ROCK!!!!

  • I love this...real music!!!!!!

  • 10,692

  • this is the truth d'angelo

  • Its alright

  • This is on the "Scream 2" soundtrack

  • This is probably one of the best covers of a prince song, if not the best but this dude needs to put a shirt on. Lol

  • I do think the best Prince cover is the Foo's Darling Nikki and Tori Amos Purple Rain, but this one is cool too.

  • Ummm...no. Chaka Khan "I Feel 4U", Sinead O'Connor "Nothing Compares 2U", George Clinton "Erotic City", Bangles "Manic Monday", Cyndi Lauper "When U Were Mine", and Jesse Johnson "Do Yourself A Favor" all smoke this, and I like D'Angelo!

  • @Tootall4yall, I'll have to disagree with just about all of those picks. I didn't even like a lot of those songs when Prince played them. On the other hand, though I love the original version of this song, the production on this track is excellent .. and I typically DON'T like D'Angelo. Ummm... Yeah, that is all. ; )

  • nice cover to this song and he is a great artist.

  • d's version is hot...but two things; 1) prince most likely played all the instruments on his version..except drums (i think sheila e. played drums on prince's version. 2) prince could certainly rip a cover of a d'angelo song too!

  • You know what I'm jamming to this like it just came out...D'angelo don't even understand how many fans he still has...man I hope he gets it together!!! Prince...come on he is in a league of his own!

Love you for adding this to youtube!

  • That's what prince is looking for in an artist your own style and diversity, if you just use the same melody and notes all your doing is a cover song. Like these tribute bands that's risng out of nowhere these days,

express the music your own way. D'Angelo's version is good, but the original is the best

because in 1985 when I was 14, I knew then that Prince is an original artist and that inspired me to do the same with my music.

  • fag

  • i really respect them both as highly creative and imaginative people.we all know that Prince is D'angelo's nigga, someone he really looked up to,so I must give him applause. He defintely did this song major justice. You can feel the funk. The original was kinda empty sounding and not in a progressive way.I love them both a lot though.Congrats,D!

  • "She's always there telling me how much she cares..."

    Good cover.

  • D'Angelo tops Prince's version, sorry folks. I know many of ya'll don't wanna hear that.

  • Well D'Angelo version is a mix up of 4 or 5 Prince's songs, you know, the voice alteration, the weird sound, off beat bass, the p-funk acid guitar etc. It's like a bad Andree 3000 record.

In fact Prince has never done a song as monotonous and plane as this D'Angelo cover, pretty boring.

The original song have so many diferent layers and unexpected arrangements. Funk sounds easy, uh?

  • <3 it

  • This rocks

  • this was my shit even though they cut it off way short

  • Don't get me wrong, I love D'angelo and i thought he did it justice. However, I love the riff, but Prince's was great esp. if you saw his version on Rave in2 the year 2000.

  • outdid Prince's original HANDS DOWN.

  • I must agree- out did Prince by FAR!!! and tha's hard to do! The added squalling (yellin) at the end knocks it out!!

  • the ending IS a banger!

  • Nice cover but this is the kind of obvious sound that Prince have done thousands of times, a funk cliche. I love D'angelo but the original is a very complex pop song, musically undefined. Really daring

D'angelo just went the easy way, you know "I wanna be darker and weirder" but without versatility, there's no musical achivement in here, even Beck is funkier and more elaborated then this. Don't get me wrong, I love the cover but have you hear Duran Duran's "Shotgun"? funkier, rawest then this.

  • ehh...I see where ur going and I can respect that but I still prefer this version...it's not SAFE and he took me where Prince did not. Prince's still my boy though...certified genius!

  • You have great taste. I like it a lot too, but for me this is kinda like mediocre Prince, but still is better then everything else out there (except M.I.A.).

    Love to D'angelo!

  • M.I.A. is catchy put a lil too pop 4 me, the value in thier music is the singablity...:)

  • Yeah I know what your saying, she will come around, I mean look at the Prince of "Dirty Mind" and the Prince of "Purple Rain", two very diferent perspectives of the same ingeniuty. I hope D'angelo give us his "Purple Rain" soon, can't wait for his comeback.

    Nice chatting with you.

  • i got dis bass line downpack
