Experience the best in Chinese cuisine - in comfortable surroundings at Ming-Yin, Market Place, Macclesfield. Carry out service also available, Telephone 6234.
Remember the movie stills on display outside the cinema in the glass case? If you were lucky, you might get a seat in the circle with a packet of Opal Fruits. Better still, you might wangle a Birds Eye Supermousse at the interval, then lob the round cardboard lid off the balcony at someone in the stalls - sorry if it was you btw (eeek).
"You can't bargain with a judge, but you can judge a great bargain ! come to Chalkwell Park Motor Company for you next used car, just around the corner from this cinema....................
Me and my mates got chucked out of the cinema for dancing in the aisles to this screaming the tune at the top of our voices before it came on ahead of the 1st Superman film in '78.....
God the world seemed a big exciting place as a child in the Quinton cinema in the 70's, what a pratt I was! I also thought what I saw at the Cine 180 tent at Alton Towers represented real life in foreign countries!
"It's time to pop the question - what's a tasty, tempting, toffee-flavoured treat? The answer is Pim's Toffee Popcorn - buy a bag, for goodness sake."
"Look who just came in."
"Another new dress."
"Did you see the outfit she wore at Marion's yesterday?"
@arriva268 I had the official ringtone from Pearl & Deans website. It only cost about £1.20 when I got it. Unfortunately the phone I had it on got broke so i no longer have it.
@arriva268 You could convert this clip to mp3 using switch sound converter, i did it for the general lee horn from the dukes of hazard and it annoys the s**t out of everyone who hears it!
just like being back in the abc wakefield curtain an all, remember most of the ads think the ice lolly lookes a bit rude though(giggle) happy days... see the posting of wakefield abc its sad
I loved the magical 1970's, as a child, I thought the world would always be like that, and the early 1980's. Does anyone remember Cine 2000 at Alton Towers?......the enormous tent showing a film of the view from a speeding car or rollercoaster or fire engine, designed to make the standing viewer sway? I would love to see a film of that, if they still survive
The UK ad agency that made this was recently sold for only one British pound (about $1.50 in US dollars at today's exchange rate). A sad commentary on changing times.
Brings back good memories of the ABC cinema lol! Can anybody remember that old advert for "wrestlers hot dogs"? Was the cartoon of all these people getting the waft of a hotdog and going "mmmmmmmmmm Wrestlers"!!! That was a classic!!
the thumbs are for the legendary status of this song. and i want this full length for for my radio cinema show, never knew there was FULL LENGTH version
Pearl and Dean in the 1970s and 1980s was part of the experience Playtime Popcorn Lyons Maid King Kone,Kia Ora and Westlers hotdogs followed by very tacky local Tandoori,Carpet Shops or Car Garages them were the days they should have kept this one its the best by far
....And after the feature presentaion why not enjoy a currie from The Golden Tandori in the Hight street.... LOL Love those local adverts, but the Cinama is not the same without that Iconic intro to some adverts :-)
Having been a Projectionist, I used to hear that tune, "Asteroid", which was written by Pete Moore quite a lot. Memories of the tabs opening the moment the picture came up, the reel-to-reel changeovers - fantastic!
Ah the old cinema 2 films kia ora popcrn, small tubs of ice cream, (wooden spoon provided) stop in to watch the film again if you wanted to,not like today, man they were the days!!!
i remember seeing this in the cinema what a bloody awsome intro, should have been a lot longer and chart release. Goldbug and roni size have sampled this
Baba baba baba baba bababa baba baba baba babaaaaa ba!
Why do I remember this 70's version of the theme being paired with the 90's footage (the one with film passing through)? I even seem to remember thinking "they ruined it" when I heard the rejigged theme. Please help me get my facts straight!
Love, love, love this tune. Back when going to the pictures was an event. Local ads, pre-feature cartoons and the film intermission to allow the ice-cream lady to walk in with her tray and torch. Fantastic!
What memories it brings back, when a ticket was £1.20 at the local ABC. And lets not forget the "ButterKist, butterkist Ra Ra Ra" (popcorn) advert as well!!!
This ident first came out in 1972, and was last used in mid-July 1996. The design that followed came out in time for the summer holiday season.
One of the main reasons for it getting changed according to Pearl and Dean insiders was the state of the original negative which was making it increasingly difficult to make copies that were credible for state of the art cinemas.
my god, i wonder how many kids ive knocked out in the back rows of the cinema's around liverpool? as soon as this tune was out of the way it was down to action. they were the days.
That PEARL & DEAN logo was used from i think 1972 up until around 1986 - 1987. I clearly remember that logo in the ABC Cinemas i went to, before adverts came on after.
I just watched a related video [ n51J02NW2Ps ] " UK Cinema Adverts 3" - at the end the Pearl & Dean logo has an 0171 phone number - showing that the logo was in use after phONEday in 1995
woah so funny all you guys actually remember this. i was born in 87 so this is a history lesson for me, but i love it! youtube is a great place to do research!
djstickland. Do i remember this one, i should say so.I was chief projectionist for most of the 70S at the STATE cinema in GRAYS ESSEX UK and played it every day. By the way, where did you obtain the download from? Nice picture and sound quality. 10 OUT OF 10. djstickland.
Hi Jerry. I'm not sure of the year Pearl and Dean first used this logo but it must had the early 70S. I was projectionist at the Embassy Tenterden Kent until its closure in 1969. I was given a transfer to the Astoria Purley. Both cinemas were run by Shipman and King and they used Pearl and Dean screen advertising (POP STYLE). I moved to Grays In December 1970 (STATE CINEMA). We did not show screen advertising at first until a year or two later, by then the latest P&D logo was in use. DAVE.
@djstickland I had to send you a comment after the most bizarre thing that just happened to me. I am sitting in my office in Seattle (at work) and for some strange reason in my head I heard the old Pearl and dean movie jingle. I went online to see if I could find it. Of course it was easy, I listened to it which was great and then went down to read the comments. To my complete astonishment your comment came up first (you posted it 3 years ago) about being the projectionist at the State Cinema
@MartinJamesMedia All my memories of that jingle are from that exact cinema, Superman 1 and 2, Rocky 2 and 3, Empire Strikes back, Battle beyond the stars and many more. What are the odds that this could have happened. I was so shocked I felt compelled to write you a comment documenting this incredible coincidence. Of all the random things that could happen somehow amongst the millions of cinema's in the world that jingle united two total strangers in a completely random way.!
well goiong to the cinema just wouldnt be the same without hearing this!awesome and brings back so many memories of going to the pictures. thanks for posting
