  • Happy 20th Anniversary Mortal Kombat 1992-2012

  • awesome tune here wow cool indeed

  • @Chronomancer321 dont you mean they Nerfed his skills.

  • hats off to Dan Forden

  • Street Fighter came out first, is better, and has better music. I love MK and im better at it, but thats the truth.

  • @JorgeTheShark how is something better "the truth" when it from one one person"s perspective? There is no better, just preferences.

  • @JorgeTheShark mj is better

  • Comment removed

  • courtyard was the first stage I played on. fuckin brutal.

  • Of course, I pay tribute to Street Fighter II, all true fighting fans have to. Nevertheless, I prefer MK to Street Fighter. And I play both competitively, as well as Tekken, Soul Caliber.

  • Still the best. How did they make these sounds, MIDI? I don't know but they should have used them in the new one. The music from the first one was just so weird and so powerful.

  • @shwishshwash sounds really close to genesis but with better samples. FYI MIDI does not produce sounds in and of itself, it is just a language for electronic instruments - used to interface between one another (hence MIDI = Musical Instrument Digital Interface).

  • This must still be the most used theme out of all the MK Soundtracks.

  • So glad they brought it back in MK9 :D

  • You forgot to put in the clapping at the end xD

  • The Real MK official theme

  • Classic tune

  • Courtyard is back in MKD! :D

  • Try "Courtyard is back in MK9!"

  • ah man the awesome memories!

  • The first thing you hear in the courtyard after "fight" is johnny cages dragon/phantom kick.

    that's usually an automatic. lol.

thats what it reminds me of:P

  • This song is in the new MK, a little bit remixed. : )

  • @jeffo2448 Hell yes it is love the guitar part!

  • I think this was the first level or something. It has that good ol tinny sounding martial arts inspired booming base feel to it. Sort of set the standard for allot of MK music in like every game that came out...

  • love it!

  • Are you and Thelegendofrenegade the same individual?

  • I hope this music Is In the new MK 2011!!

  • funktality! lol

  • EEEEHHHHHYAHHHHHHH!

  • You have to love Mortal Kombat man, no matter if it's 3D, or 2D, MK is the mother of all fighting games, it beats Killer Instinct AND Street Fighter.

  • @smokedscorpionV1 Um.. that statement, while your opinion, is pretty disrespectful toward Street Fighter. MK is NOT the mother of all fighting games. In fact you should thank Capcom for Street Fighter II. Without it, I guarantee MK would not have been released, along with many of the fighting games released after. I will assume you are young and didn't know Street Fighter 2 came out before MK, that's the only reason I could see you making a comment like this.

  • @HumorousLOL I agree with that. But I didn't show disrespect towards Street Fighter or Killer Instinct for that matter. And I have known that Street Fighter II has been here before MK. It's just an opinion man. even though I still play both series, I just like this series better than other franchises. Street Fighter has been here since 1990 or 1991. MK has been here since 92. And I'm 16 years old. But if you think that is young then so be it.

  • @HumorousLOL

I would say that Mortal Kombat owes more to Pit Fighter than to Street Fighter II, since Pit Fighter was released in 1990 and utilized digitized actors and harder violence in a fighting game setting. Street Fighter II was certainly the game to beat, but it came out in 1991. The original Street Fighter was fairly ignored. I'd bet more people remember Boudokan the Martial Spirit (1989 PC fighting game) than do remember the original Street Fighter.

  • @TheNativeDialect I wasn't talking about which game's style it owed to, but more the entire reasons fighting games were even popular. Fighting games were a joke before Street Fighter 2, it alone is the only reason other companies decided to even keep making their own. Mortal Kombat's style didn't resemble SF2, but I can guarantee you they wouldn't even have thought about releasing that game had SF2 not come out. Saying MK is "mother of all fighting games"..can't even be considered opinion.

  • @HumorousLOL

I believe you misunderstood the other poster. Saying, "the mother of all" does not mean that something is the progenitor of something or that it popularized something. Saying something like "the mother of all fighters" means that it is the ultimate culmination of all things related to that particular idea or concept. It is a hyperbolic way of expressing that it is the best of the best.

  • @TheNativeDialect He said FIGHTING GAMES. Had he said violent games, or violent fighting games, your point could have a bit more validity. He didn't though, he said fighting games, meaning in general. That's why I responded that way. Besides, Mortal Kombat wasn't even close to being the best. It is in fact, technically one of the worst fighting games ever created. Think about it, the blood and gore was cosmetic. It did nothing to patch the gameplay which was stale and uninspired at best.

  • @HumorousLOL

It added the notion of consequence to the fighting. You play Street Fighter and pummel people with energy beams and violent attacks and they just get knocked out. Mortal Kombat lived up to its name, cementing the idea that combat meant risking fatality. It is largely aesthetic, but there is some thematic significance. Also, you are not really identifying any structural issues. I believe that the first three Mortal Kombat games excelled in redefining zoning.

  • I believe that it is safe to say... "The 1990s were very kind to the video gaming industry". think about it, some of the best games were released in the 90s. -Mortal Kombat 1, II, 3, Ultimate 3, Trilogy and 4 -Street Fighter II, Turbo and Super -Killer Instinct -Super Mario World -Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3 -Super Metroid -The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time -Duke Nukem 3D and Time to Kill -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
  • @Nicksolo85 Don't forget Earthbound.

  • @SilkyMuggs Never played Earthbound so I don't really know what it's like.

I may be able to get it for my ZSNES emulator.

  • @Nicksolo85 command and conquer series too :D

  • MK 2 Wasteland track is a remix of this track.

  • my favorite!

  • LOVE THIS THEME! Its the main MK theme, as its in nearly all MK games

  • @Renegade466isback

Hi, Thank you very much for that link but i can not seem to down load the tracks to my files. They just strem to my windows media player. Would you be able to tell me how i can over come this problem?? Many thanks.

  • this reminds me alot of the street theme from MK3 cause its kind of a remix in the 3rd game

  • wow the drums in this are niiiiice! could never hear it that well while playing

  • The Courtyard was the hit. It kinda reminds you from Bruce Lee Enter the Dragon. I think Mortal Kombat wants Liu Kang to be the Champion of Mortal Kombat

  • @DRAGONUNKNOWN1999 Lol, I like liu-kang for that reason, He reminds me of bruce lee, And I used to have A sega genesis so playing this on my computer reminds me of the old days.

  • raiden looks based around the lightning guy from big trouble litle china and shang tsung reminds me of lo pann

the whole game itself is a mix of mostly enter the dragon with some bloodsport in it such as johnny cage based of jean claude van damme they were gonna make a game about jcvd but he was workingon a game already (thank you van damme) lol

plus street fighter tried to make a game that looked like mortal kombat but it wasnt as good as mortal kombat

  • @tonystarkar8 deff... those characters are without a doubt based off of Big Trouble in Little China. Its too bad they didnt throw in a Kurt Russel character for good measure lol

  • @tonystarkar8 Yes, it's Enter the Dragon mixed with Blood Sport Mixed with the Magic and sorcery of big trouble in little china. The creators even said themselves that Raiden is based on the Lightning guy. Shang Tsung is like Lo Pan etc.

  • @tonystarkar8 shang tsung= mr. han from enter the dragon, liu kang of course is bruce lee, johnny cage= john saxon (ruper), jax= jim kelly. i watched all these old classic martial art movies and to me you are right, this movie is based on enter the dragon with a little bloodsport...i still am trying to figure out who bolo yeung remindes me of.

  • @kenshiro100cracked bolo yeung= goro

  • @mataJAY Unbelievable. I just saw that film for the first time today and thought the exact same thing.

  • @kenshiro100cracked

Johnny Cage is modeled after Jean-Claude Van Damme

  • @kenshiro100cracked and they just copied bruce lee's looks and paste it on liu kang with superhuman skills

  • @tonystarkar8 actually shang tsung= lo pann and shang tsung

  • Yeah, Mortal Kombat did seem like it was something from those martial arts movies from the early 90's like Bloodsport.

  • i love this tune, its got to be the king of mk tunes, cause this theme is in nearly all mortal kombat games. Im sure this is the MAIN theme

  • Excuse me i speaked like a stupid..im tired

    thanks for uploading :)

  • I don't know, but MK always reminded me of "BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA". P-haps cause of Shang-tsung = Lao Pan, or Raiden = Lao Pan's Guards... The whole Chinese obscure thematics...

  • I know the creators said that Raiden's design was inspired from the character in the movie. I'm not sure about Shang Tsung's original design. Although that is likely the case as well. Did you know Johnny Cage's design was based off Jean Claude Van Damme?

  • hey i thinked only one martial artist based in a character

    Bruce Lee-Liu Kang

i did not mean van damme when i played mortal kombat...but i saw his old movies and he really look like johnny cage...strange but johnny cage= van damme

    liu kang= Bruce Lee

Shang Tsung and Raiden from a movie (they bodies) Big Trouble in Little china

so...only kano and the ninjas are the original characters...(in mortal kombat 1)

  • actaully kano was inspired by the terminator i believe

  • agreed

    ...yes you are right

  • i know now :D...

when i was really little i just memorized sometimes the actors faces xD so i didnt know johnny cage= van damme

    This is awesome game ,)

  • the story of the game is also reminiscent of Enter the Dragon, where fighters are invited to compete in a tournament on a secluded island

  • everybody ripped off mr carpenter in the video game industry.

Every body own that man a lot!.

  • hey isnt this song the same song of mortal kombat 3 but remixed

  • well you could say this is the original. then they reused or remixed this theme for mk 2(wasteland) and mk3/trilogy (the streets)

  • all the arcade themes are up already, just check the playlist
