Yo pienso que no hay nada de malo en querer aprender bailes de otras culturas al contrario es un alago , pero eso si hay que tratar de hacerlo con mucho respeto y lo mas apegado posible ya que de lo contrario se convierte en una ofensa , soy mexicana y estudio danza polinesia pero cuando vienen los mastros de Tahiti Hawaii , islas Cook lo primero que nos dicen es que hagamos las cosas bien para no faltar al respeto

I'm norwegian, and I apreciate my culture, but that doesn't stop me from loving other cultures, korean, and kosovo. But they don't hate or bash me. They feel honored that I'm interested it their culture! Then, should I stop listening to rnb, eating spring rolls, or reading manga? Just b'cuz it's not my culture? Bullshit. Let people like and do whatever they like, wether it's not their culture or not! Blame the internet for bringing the world closer to gether, not us who loves your culture!

What's so funny about a Polynesian dance teacher? There's no joke about how Polynesian dance teachers love what they do and like to share their culture. So would you laugh at the dance teachers of Nonosina, Hui Tama Nui, or Manutahi? That is the sole reason those groups exist: they love to share the culture with EVERYONE, and to them it's no joke. They're PROUD of their culture. I'm sick of hearing people complain about non-polys dancing tahitian, hula, maori, etc. Culture is meant to be shared.

U know what beastin88. I wouldnt have a problem if Filipinos did other cultures dances too but they seem to be stuck on Polynesian dances. LOL Do you know any Native American dances or Russian dances? Probably not LOL See my point? I know a lot of Filipinos that have no idea how to do Native Filipino dances and Filipino folk dance...but they sure do know how to hula.

Well it's pretty obvious that they like Polynesian dancing, they post tons of vids even if they're not great! Are you going to say the same about the Mexicans and Japanese that know Polynesian dancing too? I'm sure they feel the same way too! And in case you didn't notice, polynesian dancing is EVERYWHERE. Filipino, Russian, Native American, or Chinese folk dances are not seen that often in popular culture. Regardless, no one should be told what they can or cannot dance.

well, filipinos, SEA, in general, are related to pollys by blood and sharing ''common'' history, and language, so I would say we have more reason and right to do these dances, but then again, if people should stop dancing dances that doesn't belong to their culture, then tons of people should stop dances hip hop, or belly dancing...it's the same thing! Can't see anyone complaining about that...strange...guess it's more about racism, and ignorance and jealousy rather than the dance it self!

hey Gille, Im not saying its not cool to dance other dances from other cultures. But I am saying that you should know your own dance from your own culture before you go off doing other dances. I see that in so many Filipino Americans. They never do Filipino dances but always do Polynesian dances. For example, Samoans love reggae, but we also love our Samoan musik and dances too.

well I think this is a personal choice! You speak for the samoans, not the tahitians, and I can't see them complaining. So you should follow your own advice...The only sad part is that more and more people dance b'cuz they wanna win 1 place, and so they forget to apreciate the culture. Pollys often belive they don't have to make an effort b'cuz they are pollys, but when a non polly suddenly dance as good as them or better, the bashing and hating begins!

I'm sorry you feel that way; I feel that way about other things at times. But in this instance, if you look at the performers on stage, they don't look Filipinos; I think only 1 or 2 on the ground are. And if you had been at the event, you'd have seen that this was meant as a multi-cultural show, with Asian/Polynesian dances performed by Chinese, Hawaiian, whites, blacks, etc. The Poly. dances were presented by a dance school so you'd have seen white girls dancing Polynesian as well. Thanks.

Wow. The Tahitian culture isn't going to die anytime soon because there are so many people who are non-Polynesian who also appreciate the Polynesian culture because they see beauty in it. Saying only Polynesians can only dance their dances is like saying you can't dance the cha-cha because you're background isn't Cuban, or you shouldn't dance to hip hop because you're not black. Be happy people take time to appreciate another culture.

Sure! Apperciate another culture, But dont forget to appreciate ur own also. So many Filipino Americans do Polynesian dances but never do a Filipino dance. And my Polynesian culture does not thrive because of non-Polynesians. We thrive through our grandparents, parents, uncles and aunties, and eachother. Though it may be popular because of non polynesians but we do NOT depend on others to keep our traditions and culture alive. We do that our own selves.

But white and Latino are not like the Filipinos. They also do their own dances also. Latinos do their sexy salsa dances and etc. White people do their country dances and Irish dances etc...
